Was 2011 a bad Year for Boxing?

Lara wasn't the only one to get robbed.

Stop watching boxing. Just because someone is a big favorite and has close fight doesn't make it a robbery

I watch boxing on a pretty much a daily basis (hence the red k...actual boxing fans are the mortal enemy of pactards), so naturally I can look back on all the good matches and have many nice memories this year....but as far as main events and much anticipated matchups that even the casuals can get excited for...this year was absolute garbage.

Don't forget Segura vs Viloria Salgado vs Beltran Jr and of course New Years Eve In Japan Uchiyama vs Solis and Caballero vs Hosono and in LA you have Ramos vs Rigondeaux The year is FAR from over

All of those fights were entertaining. Not to mention there were a lot of lower key fights that were really exciting. People get too hung up oh boohooing about outcomes, instead of actually enjoying what happens in the ring. Grow up.

one of the worst years most definitely. it started well with berto-ortiz, rios-acosta, cotto-mayorga, morales-maidana, then a long stretch of **** with vitali-solis ,1st rd. stoppage pac-mosley, **** fight khan-mccloskey ,domestic bs stoppage wlad-haye, **** fight that eradicated hayetards khan-judah, low blow aka judah took a dive pw-lara, robbery of the decade berto-zaveck, headclash+bs stoppage floyd-ortiz, sucker punch vitali-adamek, mismatch hopkins-dawson ,win by a mma move pac-marquez III ,well not bad i guess but it produced waves of butthurt wlad-mormeck, mismatch then we got kirk-angulo and c/m - good fights, ward-froch and khan-peterson still coming up with some potential. So far it has been a draw/ok year. The year started off well with a string of upsets, then the middle of the year was a letdown for me like exciting but controversial decisions like Mares-Agbeko 1. The end of the year is looking great though, especially from last night with most of the fights entertaining. Ward-Froch and Khan-Peterson will decide this year for me.

All our biggest fight's this year were disappointments. Hopkins fight, Ortiz vs Mayweather, Pac vs JMM, and the NYC Stoppage for Margarito. In my opinion we've had better years. This was a bad year. Pac JMM was not disappointing. The decision was but the fight was good. I had fun watching the fights this year. I went to Vegas to watch Mosley and Pac stink out the joint but I still had fun. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that Bob Arum is still running TR.

A lot of the big fights this year didn't live up to the hype, but a lot of the other fights were some best fights. FNF put on some really good fights this year. Props to FNF. There was some pretty good HBO and Showtime fights as well.

People choose to pay attention to the bad fights and ignore the good ones. Go watch Wolak vs Rodriguez 1 Marquez vs Concepcion 1 Rios vs Acosta Maidana vs Morales Alvarado vs Presoctt Berto vs Ortiz etc etc etc and tell me how this was a bad year. Oh and there are still quite a few big fights left.

Boxing been great all fights. I don't look at the end results...In between, the fights were good well except dawson vs hopkins. But, it didnt even get started.

The way I see it, it isn't that simple. From top to bottom, this year had some good/great match-ups. Did all of them deliver? no, but it's rare to have an entire year of epic fights. This wasn't a great year, but I definitely enjoyed the highs. I can't honestly name all of the good fights, as there were THAT many.

Terrible year in that many of the marquee fights were controversial whereas the memorable ones were between unmarketed fighters that aren't growing the sport at the moment.
