I say no, he exploited a weakness that was put there by someone else and the fight got stopped.
Yes, he outboxed Margarito, which he also did the first fight.
Yes, he is the better boxer, which meant nothing when Margarito made him quit the last time.
He should have left his own signature on Margarito, either by damaging his left eye or knocking him out cold with a left hook to the body.
Cotto beat Margarito the only way he could, He cant knock out Tony its clear he wont make it to the cards with Tony. Smoger questioned the Drs stoppage clear on video...
it was clear that the moment Cotto started to bend a ring side Puerto Rican Dr gave him the win...
Ever heard of the saying "Let the punishment fit the crime"
This wasn't just another boxing match, it was redemption for both men...
The victor was supposed to make a point. Did Cotto made his?
For those who are saying Cotto outclassed and outboxed Margarito, noone is questioning that. It was a given Cotto is the better boxer, even in the first fight.
Now if you are on the "Plasterito" belief, did Cotto punish Margarito on his own right? Did u want Cotto to load HIS wraps??? What he did was show Margarito and the world that when the playing field is level he is the better fighter and he did that by dominating every round and stopping his man on facial damage
Yeah totally, he got his revenge. Margarito took the part pf the pantomime villain and Cotto did exactly what we expected him to. He closed the eye and fought smart on the inside clinches.
This fight is the only one we know was fair; Cotto beat his man fairly, slapped him around with ease and got the stoppage.
For everything that took place in the first fight, there is a large * placed right beside it because it's looking very much like Marg cheated. Miguel's win is better for the simple fact that it was a fair fight. I do believe this to be a somewhat tongue in cheek thread though, that or a way to throw a back-handed compliment in Cotto's direction.
This thread is pointless...Cotto is known as a left hooker...The left hook is going to land on the right eye...So you wanted Cotto to abandon his best weapon in his arsenal because the guy signed to fight with a fckd up eye socket....bs
Ese Margarito y sus fans...Como lloran =)
I don't believe I said that... I said he should have left his own signature/mark on Margarito.
If you think just doing enough to get the fight stopped and win is considered "revenge", then I suspect you are the type that gets picked on over and over even after you "tell on them".
But the beating that Cotto got (not to mention the humiliation of taking a knee twice) is more severe than the "punishment" that Margarito got this time around.
And if you believe that Margarito had loaded wraps for the first fight, then "justice" surely wasn't served this time around.
I think so. He'll never headline another PPV again. Miguel established that, and the myth ends with him. He trumped Margarito who looked frustrated at times and was getting tagged against a superior boxer he just couldn't catch with anything significant.
He was humiliated in the 10th, he should've listened to Miguel in the 24/7 and thought about his health not his bravado. It's so anticlimactic that in many ways it's a farce of the original fight. How humiliating, to have been humbled by Cotto who was broken psychologically after that fight...lol..
Miguel just stood there and stared Margarito down for like 10 min, watching him in his agony, being carted off on his stool like some false Chavez. It was eerie you know? There was this majestic vibe about Cotto, like he was channeling something from deep within. I can't explain what, it just seemed moving. Awe inspiring. Gratz Cotto

I cant believe some of the jokers on here, Cotto went out there and OUTCLASSED his man, he boxed his ears off and he tagged him with Hard flashy shots, pushed him back and out muscled him whenever he felt like it. He smashed his eye to bits with jabs and hooks and he won every single round doing it IMO - A one sided humiliating defeat for Margarito....
Cotto is The man :boxing:
There was no way Margarito was going to win, even if they by some miracle managed to go 12. Without the eye problems, this improved Miguel would've still schooled him. I'm impressed with Diaz. Why couldn't he use these tricks before? Jeez! It would have shaped his whole career much differently :(

Not even worth responding to this rubbish......
:newbie:
Of course he did.
It doesn't matter what eye got beat up or what happened in previous fights, he went in there and gave a boxing lesson to a cheater. He beat him up, gave his eye yet another night of punishment and came out with a TKO victory...revenge served.

He got his Revenge. Spanked his a$$ the whole entire fight. Marg was never in the fight and never was gonna be. He got soundly beaten period. Say what u want about the eye but if Cotto didn't hit it, then His Eye would have been fine. Cotto said he was gonna Target, bust margs eye up and he did. You know u have kicked someone's a$$ when U tell them exactly what you are going to do to them and then do it.
I just watched this fight again. I noticed Miguel was reallly turning it up in the 9th round.. He was manhandling Margarito, PINNING him on the ropes and firing hooks upstairs. I sincerely believe the next couple of rounds were going to be hell for Margarito who was beginning to look frustrated/confused. He wasn't answering back, or am I wrong? Robert Garcia said it was their best round at the end but to me it looked like the beginning of the end for Margarito. Cotto stopped dancing around and drove Margarito back! Was he turning the tide in a big way?

Cotto after the fight:
'Margarito is a strong puncher. A strong fighter... But I'm the better fighter.'
Revenge is sweet.
It was pretty obvious he couldn't knock him out so I guess he did the next best thing, win more rounds and move away to escape punishment.
I think what Cotto did was the best he could hope for.
I honestly do not think that Cotto would have lost, even if Margarito gained momentum in the later rounds.
I'm just too bummed that the fight got stopped due to an existing injury.
I blame Robert Garcia for ruining this rematch, for not stopping the Pacquiao fight as a good corner would have.
he made a seriously injured eye even worse. He made the doctors fear for margaritos health. he busted margs face.
tko 10.
Yeah I'd say hes had his revenge. I wouldn't have minded it going 3 more rounds for even more punishment, but this will do.
Margarito is now irrelevant in boxing.
Of course he did.
