The only damage done to Margarito's face was around the previously damaged eye.
Cotto's face was again starting to show the damage done by Margarito, slightly less than the first fight, but then again, they were using 10oz Everlast tonight as opposed to 8oz Reyes.
There were three rounds left in the fight. Tony was coming on strong like he did in the first fight; Cotto was starting to wilt, again. That was a strategic stoppage by the heavily pro-Cotto NY commission.
I would say there should be a Trilogy fight, but Tony's eye will not hold up anymore, in any fight for that matter. He needs to call it quits now.
Awesome first three rounds by Cotto BTW. Very impressive.

thank pac for the stoppage? lol oh yes, how could i forget that pac man trained cotto and showed him how to properly execute his game plan and beat margs. ur just as ignorant as the rest for sayin that!
Did anyone expect anything less than backhanded compliments from Margarito fans..Faulty logic and clinging to whatever can confirm their biases already..
Let's end this ignorance now:
1) Shane Mosley is to receive any credit you'd want to give to anyone else. Castgate started with him, and he beat Margarito senseless.
2) Don't undermine Cotto. Many doubted him, myself included, but he whooped a$$ tonight. Perfect gameplan and awesome execution- he fought a fight I didn't believe he was capable of fighting. Cotto looked great tonight and deserves all praise, regardless of what anyone thinks Margarito's condition was.
Cotto did what he needed to do to win tonight. He made the subtle adjustments necessary to prevent the same damage he took in the first fight, i.e., tying up Margarito's arms and pushing him back, basically being more physical with Tony and moving away from the ropes, spinning back to the center of the ring. And he targeted the damaged eye; Tony was up against it last night.
I just think Tony deserved to fight through the next three rounds. Cotto was not hurting him, he had a good 9th round and appeared to be picking up the pace. Not saying he would have turned it around, but we all know Cotto tires late and that's when they decided to stop the fight. But big props to Cotto for doing what he had to do. He busted up Margo's eye like he said he would and got his revenge.
THat's cause he fought Pacquiao, "arguabley" the best fighter ever.
(who put a better performence than cotto btw)
And Miguel Cotto, with one eye.
Best fighter ever? There's nobody on this planet that can't make a good case for that statement. That has the be the funiest thing i've heard in years. Anyway, Cotto looked superb in this fight. His footwork was outstanding and was clearly better then any of his previous fights.
Marg wasn't 100%. Cotto fans are all hyped lmao relax BOTH of them are nothing as opposed to when Marg took that 0 when both of them where in their prime. A victory today means nothing. And if JCC jr beats Cotto..... lmao.
As they say on ESB,
stfu noob

A bad eye, a long layoff, and a brutal beating by Pacquiao and Mosley beat Margarito tonight.
Well, at least margacheato does not have to make any excuses. You're making them all for him.
A bad eye, a long layoff, and a brutal beating by Pacquiao and Mosley beat Margarito tonight.
Didn't Cotto take a sever beating from Pacquiao too? Quit making excusing and take your fighters clear defeat like a man.
He cheated for all his big fights, just move on...
What short sited people we have here. The first 6 rounds of this fight were nearly identical to the first fight. That was with a Prime Margarito.
Margarito was outclassed in the first 6 rounds in Both fights and losing. However, Margarito (who throws arm punches) was able to land a limited amount of good body shots and in both fights with Cotto mostly head hunting and fighting backing up.
Only real difference between the fights was the EFFECT that those same punches had on Cotto. In the 2nd fight the punches didn't have the same effect and so Cotto was able to make rounds 7-9 look like 1-6. Without plaster Cotto would've kept boxing Margarito in the first fight to a Unanimous Decision IMHO.
Not at all. The only similarity is that Cotto won the majority of them.
Believe me, I had that in the back of my mind as well. But Cotto just fought a much, much better fight this time. He was much more dominant. Margarito had a moment or two last night, but compared to the first time, when Cotto was winning the early rounds, he took a lot of punishment.
Cotto boxed and defended better than I've ever seen him do. He employed great ring generalship, he clinched when he had to, and most importantly, the few times Marg pinned him to the ropes, Cotto turned it around and went to work on Margs. He also dug the body better.
He stood his ground and made Marg missed and turned him. In the first fight- though he was winning- all he was actually doing was unloading clean punch combos, running, and repeat. He burned himself out. Tonight, he fought an awesome fight and looked better, to me, than he had in years.
This fight was at 153, first fight was at 147
First fight they wore 8 oz reyes, this fight they wore 10 oz everlasts
Marg is coming off a broken orbital bone from Pacquiao.
Those are all MAJOR differences
Your talking about the REASONS for what happened, I'm talking about what ACTUALLY happened. Look at the first 5-6 rounds in both and they are EXTREMELY similar almost exactly the same actually.
DIfference in THE ACTUAL FIGHT was that Margarito's early work didn't have the same effect in the Second half of the fight in the rematch that it did in the first fight.
Now you can debate the Reasons for that but the actual fights were damn near identical.

Biggest difference was Margarito didn't have plaster in his hand wraps this time around...

Mexicans should STFU, because the only thing this fight proved was that Margarito clearly used illegal hand wraps in the first fight.
He wasn't "coming on strong", he was losing almost every round including the last round before the tko.
