Hear me out..
I was thinking, how marketable is Margarito if he wins? Both these fighters are at the end of their ropes, but even Arum has expressed interest in having Pacquiao rematch Cotto at 154lbs..
What if Margarito won? How much more fight does he have left in him? Lets get some real answers, not hindsight after this Saturday night.
Honestly I think if it goes the distance, assuming Cotto can survive the onslaught for twelve rounds, Cotto has it in the bag easily and a few more matches can be made with his name in it to generate the big bucks.
As much as it is entertaining to watch Margarito, I don't see how much further he can get at this point.
Discuss.
Margarito is more marketable, he just needs to be marketed as a Mexico and Texas fighter and mexicans outsell anything cottos does, Margaritos notoriety alone outsells cotto, puerto rico isbig but mexico is fukkin huge, best fans right now and probably always have been is from mexico
Bull**** and you know it.
Biggest PPV seller was Oscar but he had everybody backing him up not just mexicans.
I don't think so. These two have bad blood that is slightly more palpable than the average pre-fight hype, steve smogger as the ref, I think it will be a rough fight and will be obviously real. Plus I don't see either one having a style that would let them "fake it" and have it look convincing. c'mon its mexico vs. puerto rico in the garden AND i payed a **** ton to be there live so it better not be be faked

This is just embarrassing and stupid. The amount of redemption in play for both fighters should answer your question.
Not at all.
Both of these guys are far too proud and have way to much to lose for another big pay day.
This fight defines both careers. Either Margarito was a cheater or Cotto was always a quitter waiting to happen.
I don't believe for a moment that either guy would tarnish their entire career and legacy over a million dollars.
Maybe I'm just being naive and money rules the roost here, but i don't think so
edit: Could Arum have influenced the judges decisions...that much i will leave as an open possibility but i don't think either fighter would be open to a fixed fight.
Yeah, way too much animosity there for a fix. Besides, Cotto is just as done or close to done as Margarito is. Margarito has plenty of fights he could make Arum money with.
I dont agree with that brother, I belive that Margarito has less -fights- on him just looking at his eye sight and based on his last few fights where he has failed to deliver the goods.
On the contrary, with Diaz, Cotto seems renewed, a new man. This fight will open more doors to the winner, where the losser will fade...
Don't think so.
Too much bad blood. It would be like Oscar/Vargas being fixed. Just too much bad blood.

I think you're confusing a dive with a fix. Fix can come in many ways. Weird scorecards. An unusually small or large ring. Many, many things.
My badd on the misunderstanding.
Well for starters,if theres an issue with the ring size margarito shouldn't of signed for the fight,he would be contradicting himself if he brought that up.
The first fight was in vegas and i think we can all agree cotto outboxed margarito for the first half. And im not saying every round but for most part convincingly. If you can outbox a guy for 7 solid rounds and survive till the 12 your pretty much the winner. But the knock out came for margarito.
I dont think the fight will ever look like the recent Pacquiao/Marquez trilogy with so many close rounds. In the end,we will just have to sit down and watch it unfold. But a major robbery taking place is far fetched.
The fight being "fixed" should be thrown out of the window. There's too much pride in both men to even remotely just give in for money and role play.Much more then a night's pay check is at stake.Given that this may be Cotto's last fight as a Top Rank fighter he's all in for the Mega Million$$$ signing with a win (or Golden Boy).Given that Margarito has alot of proving to do with the public,he will push till the end. He's a man of his word by many of his fans.He can solidify doubts with this one...so i highly doubt the fixed theory even exists on this one.

One of those guys is among the most notorious boxers of all time & just recently has taken a shine to playing up to his role as the villain. Still very marketable.

I think the opposite holds true. Arum has praised Margarito for his loyalty...a lot. And Bob has rewarded him, as well as always standing by his side in his defense. Cotto, on the other hand, has bumped heads with Bob numerous times (even recently) and his contract is about to expire. If the strings get pulled, I'd be shocked if they go his way.
If they catch who ever fixes the fight (promoter/fighter) they would be banned for life and go to prison. Top Rank and the fighters have no reason to be that stupid and NY commission is more strict then most.
Margarito can be a seller if he whoops on Cotto in a similar fashion as he did the first time, and has plenty options with his name in it as well..
Margarito-Canelo
Margarito-Chavez jr
Margarito-Martinez II
Margarito-Mayweather (Cinco de Mayo)
Margarito-Kirkland
Margarito-Perro
and the list goes on!...they might not all be 1mil+ sellers but they're action packed and with proper promotion could be decent PPV sellers. (500k+)
win or lose there are good/great fights for both of them. If it is a close fight they can do a trilogy.
Cotto is still the 3rd biggest draw in the U.S. and a proven PPV seller. Margarito has that mexican following and is a true mexican unlike Ortiz. He can fight Canelo or JCC Jr and those would both be HUGE fights.
If it is, it's fixed the other way.
Arum's relationship with Margarito=Good
Arum's relationship with Cotto=Bad
He doesn't want Cotto ruining Margarito's marketability and then promptly leaving Top Rank.
I definitely think Arum would prefer for Margarito to win.
