This is what a young Floyd would have looked like without proper fundamentals. :lol1:
No. This doesn't mean Broner is like a young Floyd. Instead this means if Floyd had no proper fundamentals; meaning his offense and defense was bare and he relied solely on his natural ability.
The result would be Adrien Broner. :lol1:
That is my observation. He punches like how Floyd used to but without the discipline and fundamentals backing it up. He tries to do things like Floyd does but it comes off sketchy because of the aforementioned lacking.
Go for it though. I wanted to see the excitement behind this guy but all I see is a reckless power puncher.
I doubt anyone at Super Feather beats him. The division is quite bare to be honest. I mean, my boy Diego Magdaleno is in the same division and could easily box circles around him but I doubt he could take his punch.
Broner won't see much comp until he moves up. Then you'll see his true worth. He'll see guys where reckless power punching won't exactly mean you win. Katsidis, DeMarco, Antillon, all guys who can take a punch and keep on coming. Then you have tacticians; Linares, Guerrero. Then guys with firepower as well; Rios, Acosta.
Just my observation. I'm not sold on him but you guys can support him if you want.
the brains. the skill level is a notch lower as well. but ten again its floyd we are talking about. its one thing to emulate him, but its another to do what he does and completely understand why he does it in a specific situation. broner doesnt have that yet it seems.
Exactly.
And Floyd has that understanding because his fundamentals are so sound.
I was having flashbacks of the Gatti fight watching Broner assault Rodriguez.
Then the flaw appeared. Floyd assaulted then backed up, then jumped back in. To avoid being hit by a desperation punch. While Broner just stayed in, almost smothering his own punches.
That would get him in trouble against a guy who can take his punches, has power of their own, or is tactical minded.
Broner is his own man, I know that but I just noticed these flaws in his game. It's also easier to notice when he emulates such a high quality, precision based style.
Alot of people call him the Poor Man's Mayweather, and I tend to agree. If this is supposedly the next big star in boxing then I really don't have high hopes for the sport.
Broner is the Diet Coke version of Floyd. He's the quasi-Floyd. He moves like Floyd, he punches like Floyd, but yet something is missing.

IMO the main difference is that he tends to slip in his fights, and like it happened to him against Ponce de León, he was just caught with a lot of punches, something that almost never happens to Floyd.
Floyd is almost impossible to hit, but Broner isn't.
Uchiyama looked pretty bad against Miura but, everybody has an off night.
the best guy in the division sans broner is solis. but i would love to see him vs uchiyama. both are good talents with numerous question marks.
Not to sure. His best win was Salgado. Maybe wait for the Solis fight then reassess him vs Broner.
Uchiyama looked pretty bad against Miura but, everybody has an off night. I'm really high on Kenichi Ogawa and Yoshihiro Kamegai. Takahiro Ao recently had a lackluster performance against a relative unknown recently.
TS Don't u think he has more to prove at his weight first??? He def has talent but the top 2 guys in his division have done something AB has yet to do..... Actually beat a champ n his own division... Funny thing to me is that AB's last opponent was already beat by a guy AB KO'd 2 yrs ago.... He has talent just needs a good test like say a top 10 opponent at 130 first
Broner's success will depend on whether or not he begins to respect his opponents as they continue to get tougher. As soon as he ceases to be the "showcase" in a fight, and if he keeps fighting the way he does, he'll be out pointed or knocked out by an effectively aggressive fighter. He gets hit A LOT more than Floyd does but he's just as inactive.
He'll have to stop worrying so much about how good he looks in the ring if he wants to beat any of the top guys at 135-140.
i agree with most of this, but the only guys i see giving him trouble are rios, linares, and Guerrero(if he stays that low). the rest, he has enough skill and power to beat for the most part.
But Broner also never fought anyone who takes bombs and keeps coming forward. Well, Ponce does but some people think he loss that fight.
So if a guy like Katsidis could eat his shots and plot foward. What will that do to Broner mentally? Specially since he goes all out on all his shots, would he fade?
All valid statements. I'll say this. The fight was entertaining. As a matter of fact, all the fights last weekend were surprisingly good. Low and behold, one of the fighters does a tribute to Mayweather's style and another calls him out in his post fight interview. Floyd is the top dog hands down, he breathed life back into the sport. Now all we need is this Pac fight to crack off and Boxing is back on the map.
