Was doing some shopping with the wife at the Florida Mall on black Thursday and was waiting to get my ride from the valet and my wife told me "Isn't that Cotto the boxer behind us?"
I turned around and it was him. He was wearing a blue tank top was with his wife, two kids and some bald headed dude. He looked to be in great shape and what I did find odd was that he was advertising he was Miguel Cotto with his shirt and kids shirts (which had his name in the front) but seemed bothered when people approached him.
I never approached him, I don't like to when they are with their families I find it disrespectful.
Anyway, I forget how small welter weights are, he was tiny compared to me. He looks ready though for the fight. Can't wait to see it.
If I saw Cotto and his family, I'd walk up to them and sit myself right between him and his wife and just start flirting with his wife like crazy even though I don't think she's hot at all.
Yea, that's what I'd do. :boxing:
I saw Margarito once, I ask for a pic and he slapped my mother in the face. ****ing dick.
Im surprised no one has asked if his hands were loaded for that slap or if she took a knee..No offense to your dear old Mom though lol...
Yea, Ive met Cotto by himself, and he was a bit as an @sshole..... He got mad when asked for a sig. or picture.....
It made me not like him even more... And as far as him being a family man, I put a pic on here of him a little drunk, and hitting in my best friends cousin. He was hitting in her from another table, and told her to take a pic with him.
thats why he trains in the US.... and not in PR.

I think I remember that. Was that around the time of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight? I think it was around that time.
No but like SSM he is much faster than Tony and throws straighter punches so he should be able to land 1st especially because Tony will be coming forward and vulnerable to getting hit clean the whole time.
great assesment... makes a lot of sense....
Either way I expect an entertaining fight even if both are not what they were before their 1st meeting, Cotto needs to be crafty and look for a decision maybe the SSM gameplan where he boxes from the outside, grabs when Tony closes the distance, wait for the break, rinse/repeat.
SOUNDS perfect, cotto dont have the mosley reach though....

.
What is Black Thursday?
dulorme and pedraza look REALLY pomising, but i dont see that same charisma....
Pedraza indeed looks promising. He also looks a lot like Borat, ha! Anyway, I think if Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. works hard, he could be but I still have my doubts. Jonathan Oquendo is really humble and also a goof fighter, but you get the feeling that his time is passing by and he still has not had the opportunities he deserves. I hope Oquendo becomes our next work champion.
I was probably as young as you back then. In fact, I wasn't even watching the DLH-Tito fight. I was in some part of my grandmother's house reading a GamePro magazine my parents had bought for me that day. I was a kid. But I remember it was huge following the decision. EVERYBODY in Puerto Rico went crazy following the decision. We really haven't had anything like that since. Even if Cotto had won his biggest fight (in his first against Margarito), it would've never been 1/4 as hyped as DLH/Tito. It's going to be at least another 20 years or so before we see someone that brings as much as hype and hope to Puerto Rico as Tito did.
I'll be 29 in a couple of weeks. How old are you?
In Puerto Rico, it's Gómez, Trinidad, and... we still have not had another fighter from that mold. Maybe a decade from now or so. We'll see.
Gómez and Trinidad...aside from that, we have had very solid fighters, but none as BELOVED as those two from what I've gathered from reading and listening to my father talk.

He looked in great shape, I know Marg will be ready and I can't wait for this fight. I just hope it's a good one and we don't see something happen early to end it.QUOTE]
i do, i need a ko from Cotto lol...
But with Margo's chin i know thats not going to happen.. crazy, stupid iron chin lol....
I say this is going to be a UD....
I was thinking more something to do with the eye. Regardless of what happened or didn't happen, as a boxing fan I want to see each man get a victory by fighting.
I don't want to see Marg's eye stop the fight or something else happen. I want to see these two warriors go at it and see who wins.
I'm worried about the eye though because they said Marg couldn't see for like 4 months without blurred vision and I didn't know he had a second operation for cataracts.
That's a very cool anecdote. I can't believe that around 1997-98 I used to think that Trinidad was conceited. I was just a kid back then but I could not understand why he kept saying he was the best, that DLH was afraid, etc.
The fact is he was just proud and confident of his abilities. Trinidad was so accepted and admired that even when he had the scandal with the model and the kid out of wedlock, his image did not suffer much if anything at all. It was almost like giving him a free pass because of his excellent "social" record.
If Cotto was half as approachable as Trinidad I could imagine the parades here and the car horns honking as soon as his victories were set in stone. Do you remember the one when the Trinidad-DLH decision was read? That was incredible and it has not happened with any other boxer since.

That's what I said?
Yeah, I know. I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything even though it looked like that. My bad.
I was just trying to elaborate on what you had said. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I ran into Cotto in Dallas last year before the Pac-Margarito fight at a Mavericks game. I just said hello and shook his hand as he was walking by, didn't bother to talk to him but I can understand that he is introverted and it doesn't bother me.
As mentioned, he is not a big guy. I towered over him lol, but no doubt he would knock me out with one punch.
