Knock on me after all you but hear me out.
The best form of Cotto was the one who came fight night for the fight with Margarito.
Yes he lost but look at it during and before the fight.
Cotto was best shape hed ever been. His jabs, speed was sharpest ive seen to date. His punchrs were never looped or done wrong. Imo hed beat any WW in that year with pure ease, but i believe hed lose to Mayweather via a CLOSE ud.
Cottos stamina shouldnt be questioned, who esle can stand there and moved so much while throwing power punch after power punch while getting hit and pressured for 11 damb rounds. That Cotto beats Pacquiao no doubt and even the post Cotto would beat Clottey without that gash.
The Margarito fight ruined Cotto yes, but i believe even in a tainted loss that was Cotto was his peak skill wise, physically and mentally till he lost.
Had Cotto sustained that form Pacquiao does not get through him.

Had TR thought Cotto was at his best in '09, they wouldn't have matched him with Pac.
At his best, Cotto was a pressure fighter.
I thought Cotto's peak came in the first half of the Mosley fight. He was timing him beautifully and Mosley felt lost in the ring with him.
The Cotto that LOST the second half of the Mosley fight is the one that fought Margarito.
After the Mosley fight, I think he felt invincible. His demeanor against Gomez was cocky as hell, and his skill level in the first 6 rounds against Margarito was superb, but Margarito's pressure kicked in and that quickly went away. Hasn't been quite the same since, but hopefully he's regained that confidence and walks in beast mode on the 3rd!..I want to see the Cotto of old in there.
I get your point.. and Cotto is one of my favs.. but Marg's style is a bad matchup for Cotto. He only has two losses and one of them being controversial (Tony). The other loss is to a modern day ATG. Just because he lost to two great fighters doesn't mean that his boxing talent somehow disappeared. Once you step up in competition.. someone has to lose. Back in the day you had the greats fighting each other after brutal fights.. nowadays we try to find reasons as to why boxer A or boxer B lost a fight.
Too bad most of the people on here cant seem to grasp this, and pretend to be wannabe certified counselors.
The Alfonso Gomez fight was spectacular. That's when he knew. He possessed that aura of invincibility, thought no man could shatter him. And then came Tony..
A big problem for Cotto is that he can't fight backing up. Once he gives up that ground- like he did to Tony and Manny- then he's done. I like Cotto a lot, but if a fighter can take his power and move forward on him, he has a hard time handling it. Cotto barely beat Clottey---barely...Clottey let that fight slip away by laying off in the final rounds. Another issue is Cotto's chin...it's not exactly made of granite. Call me crazy, but I've got Margarito by KO before the 11th round.
Bull****. He looked tremendous against Randall Bailey, Alfonso Gomez, and Carlos Quintana. **** outta here with that.
oh damn I completely forgot he fought Randall Bailey. He had some good wins at Junior Welter as well
Funny, I thought it was because after seeing FMJ rape Gatti, Arum and Cotto didn't want none!
and why would you think that? because misinformed people take things they can't comprehend and make up their own stories? here's the actual evidence that floyd didn't want none of cotto.
floyd turned down a 7 million guarantee(career high by far)
arum loves in-house fights because no matter who wins he wins. why would arum offer margarito and cotto to floyd for huge career high paydays if he didn't want them to fight? makes no sense but ok....
floyd demanded a 10 million guarantee(same amount he got to fight delahoya) to fight a 140 pound cotto. not possible to guarantee that much for that fight when looking at both fighters situation-cotto fought on boxing after dark and floyd was only doing 350k buys at the time. floyd priced himself out.
floyd demanded 20 million to fight delahoya while he was with top rank but accepted 10 million after he left top rank which proves his demands were not serious and he just wanted to get out of his contract by making ridiculous demands.
after floyd beat delahoya and became a huge star he never tried to make the fight with cotto even though he was the next biggest star and would have made him the most money(a lot more than the 10 million he wanted before) like floyd says he's the a-side and he will make the offer yet no offer to the biggest star in his division. instead...........a retirement and excuses.
why do people say cotto was protected? it makes no sense. they put him in with huge punching randall bailey who's a limited fighter but can knock anyone out. a real risk unlike phillip "padded record" ndou. or how about undefeated slick southpaw carlos quintana for cotto's first welterweight fight? how is that protected? he fought top welterweights clottey, margarito, mosley, and pac. i'm not seeing the kid gloves at all. the only guy he never fought was floyd but that's because he lives too far away.
Funny, I thought it was because after seeing FMJ rape Gatti, Arum and Cotto didn't want none!
thread seems like an excuse for why he lost to pac
its common knowledge pac has fought damaged and flawed fighters, cotto was at his best when he fought antonio but antonio put a vicious beating on cotto that left him damaged CLEARLY u dont get beat like that and recover, pac also put a vicious beating on cotto too, hes done
yeah the cotto that fought marg looked GREAT until about round 8 when he began to get tired. cotto gets hit to much to beat mayweather and throws wide punches which isnt good. marg ruined cotto as a fighter, that fight left him damaged goods sad to say
thread seems like an excuse for why he lost to pac
Nope. Just who which form of Cotto was the best. And that one would have beat Pac. Cotto was shot mentally after.
Bull****. He looked tremendous against Randall Bailey, Alfonso Gomez, and Carlos Quintana. **** outta here with that.
Are they even in the same league as the Mosley he fought? Maybe at.the time Quintana but the fightet cotto came fight night againest margarito wa complete.
Confidence, experience, skill, physical. He was on top. Nobody was ****ing with cotto on that night unless it was margarito, whos win tainted fan of his or not.

lol Cotto looked like the **** in his zab judah, gomez, quitana, Paulie M lol idk how to spell his last name, and beat a good Mosley before Mayweather/Pac.
Like I said in the other tread Cotto may have been robbed of his greatness by a proven cheater. He's still good & has the chance at redemption the 3rd & maybe even against Pacman.

The Mosely fight was a great performance. Even though I thought he lost when I saw it live.
yeah I would say his run at 147 up until the Margarito fight was very impressive. He beat Mosley who was probably only slightly past his prime. Nobody had beaten Zab Judah so comprehensively before, and he absolutely smoked out Quintana.
