Knowing what we think we know about him, if your a fighter would you fly down to Mexico for several weeks and spar with him to get him ready for his fight with Cotto?
Especially if your a prospect who may have a bright future in this sport?
I know sparring partners get paid but they dont make that much and my question is since he is a "known" cheater why are all these guys like Austin Trout etc... willin to spar with him? especially when you hear Roach falsely accuse Margarito of breaking some kids eye socket in sparring which I think is also a made up story
that's it i have had enough of this individual. there is only one way to settle this. lace them up. :chairshot
you'd like me to say something contradictory, ok. You're a swell guy.
You have your theories and I have mine. We fought hard in our gym, I fought hard. I would take a bout with a guy who spars at 70% anyday and push him constantly at 100% in a fight, they start to fold. You can see it in their eyes......Rockin':boxing:
i am a fighter, and yes. it would be great opertunity to share the ring with a world class fighter, share a gym with a bunch of em. maybe get some pointers from robert garcia. invaluable experience as a fighter and as a person. i would do it in a heart beat, not that im on that level but in theory.
We agree then! saludos.
p.s. I am waiting for Rockin' to contradict me
That is correct, we cycle after a few rounds each with our pro fighter, and just in general for us amateurs. The more fighters the better, and obviously for professionals they find ideal sparring partners based on the qualities of the opponent they are going to face.
Sparring generally is not at 100% because obviously you don't want to injure someone training, but sparring sessions before a fight are pretty intense.
Sparring should always be performed at 70% of a boxers full potential. Why risk an injury as fights draw near? It's not worth it.
Also why worry about sparring margarito most pro boxers rotate between 3+ sparring partners to keep the sparring mate fresh. That means a sparring partner might get 3 or 4 rounds with Margarito and in comes the next one. But knowing Rockin' he is probably going to debate this also.

Down at Galaxy we fought hard every day. One guy said that sparring gets easier when fights are coming near when in reality the sparring gets more heated as fights draw closer........Rockin':boxing:
I'd jump at the chance to spar any World Class boxer (Any boxer even) regardless of who they were or what their history was, plus as norte said there is money, even more incentive to get in there.
I would definitely spar with him, I would be all excited for it and take pics with him and get an autograph no doubt. Several other fighters at my gym are fans of him too.
I would DEFINITELY spar with him...and I wouldnt worry about potential things he may or may not do to gloves...I dont think the guy (as some would have you believe) tampers with every set of gloves he comes into contact with...however I can tell you I know one former world rated boxer who more than once put 12 ounce bag gloves on in place of 16 ounce sparring gloves (I was there for two of the times he did this)...one time he got away with it and really mashed up the face of a fellow world rated guy but the 2nd time? He got caught, was made to wear the standard 16 ouncers and was subsequently KNOCKED OUT COLD (Im talking O--U-T out) by the guy he was going to trick....
Tyson hits pretty hard
You are probably one of those parents who won't let his kid go outside because you are scared dirt might get on him. Stop being analytical about a sparring session. All the coaches I have worked with know that sparring is to learn and sharpen your skills not to kill someone. Now you are talking about one shot being equivalent to being in a car accident, we are not getting hit by mike tyson.
You do realize that headgear doesnt really make a big difference right? the gloves do but the headgear sometimes is worse than sparring with out depending on the brand but in no way does it give you an ability to take shots better.
Headgear does make a difference, it does gives you a little more resistance especially when the headgear is padded enough to absorb the impact. Also it helps you to avoid cuts during accidental headbutts, although I still don't know how Ward managed to open his forehead during sparring. Finally as some other user said here, it helps you in case you fall to the canvas, since it's not the same at all to land directly on the floor with headgear or without it.
you wear headgear to protect your head in case you hit the canvas head first..just like driving a bike..
You wear headgear mainly to reduce the chance of getting cuts.

Depends, but who says you have to go all out to do damage? and that head gear you posted is exactly what I am talking about if you throw and arching looping right hand and come down on the top of that bar you are going to stagger someone...
That bar will make someones neck snap as if they were in a car accident, if you hit it right
Answer this question,, do most pro boxers go all out on sparring or hold back??

Some people tend to actually believe it makes a difference and it doesnt if you get hit with a good shot you feel it with or with out it, and also it doesnt protect your chin, but you can get the headgear with that bar that protects the nose, which does provide protection for the chin as that bar sticks out a bit but if you hit that bar at the right angle you can do more damage with that than with out.
And FYI there are alot of fighters in which as they get closer to the fight the glove size too comes down in sparring I have seen plenty of fighters working with 10 ounce and 8 ounce gloves
