My previous thread got deleted, I don't know why, but anyway. If Cotto still wants to fight but Margarito is not allowed to, who should be Cotto's opponent? I would accept Alvarez. I'm sure he would see a bigger reward in a fight with Cotto.
If not him, I think Victor Ortiz. I know they have fights lined up but I'm sure both Alvarez and Ortiz would take a fight with Cotto in a heartbeat.
I know it would not happen. That's what I stated. However, I think what is agreed upon is that the opponent would have to go straight to Cotto, not fight him after a fight.
For example, Alvarez would have to cancel against Cintrón and face Cotto instead. It's obvious he would not fight both.
Oooooooooh, well THAT would make sense. I could see that happening. It doesn't change the fact that people that are going to see the JCC/Manfredo fight (HTown) are going to be pissed for having Bob cancel a fight for another. In fact, it could be very tricky.
Changing venues, taking JCC out of Texas, refunding/trading values for those that paid for JCC/Manfredo...Bob's in a mess.
Stylewise, Angulo is the best replacement. Actually, I see Angulo as the new Margarito. The bad thing is that he lost recently and I don't even know if he would get licensed after a such a recent KO.
I can't see Alvarez being thrown in as a replacement. Kirkland I don't think Cotto's people would go for that.
Chavez Jr. wouldn't be in the mix because he's fighting this weekend. I would agree Sergio or Perro Angulo.
Even though Angulo lost, I think it would be a great opportunity to fight a big name like Cotto.
It would be hard though because the timing would be off for most of those names mentioned.
Of course not! He'd be taking a solid, world caliber fighter on very, very short notice. He's fighting this weekend for God's sake...
That ain't happening...

I agree with all of this and Chávez is another one I thought of but I don't think he would do it.

Well Canelo would be a LEGIT win for Cotto in that case, or even Chavez. Cotto would be the star and could make them want to come down for there biggest pay day ever.

I mentioned only Mexican boxers to preserve some of the aura that Cotto-Margarito II had. I don't like Kirkland at all because the guy is a monster and for Cotto to fight him on short notice could be disastrous. Then again, after the war Kirkland had recently he might be there for the taking.
Sergio Martinez, come on stop with the game playing, there is no other BIG fight that can be made at MW at this time that consist of Cotto nor Martinez
So I will accept Martinez, or even Canelo.
