Martinez/Kirkland?

well one, kirkland is a junior middleweight, his team said they're good at that weight. two, martinez is no cash cow, his team is looking for one to fight, and kirkland is not it. i wouldn't mind it, but kirkland would have to fight before it cause dibella already has martinez lined up to fight macklin (:nonono:) on st. patrick's day in new york. so perhaps in the summer? and that's if kirkland moves up to 160 cause i'm pretty sure martinez won't move down for anyone besides mayweather/pacquiao so yeah. kirkland has alvarez, trout, martirosyan, lara, and molina in his weight class though, going after martinez would be something i wouldn't think he or his team would do. and according to doktorsleepless, that's the case. good fight though i guess, both guys want to get their names out there more for sure...

Exactly, thats all I have been saying all day and some of my fellow fans are missing that very simple point

and yes, Martinez is in danger of losing his lofty perch if he does not turn in a performance that at least borders upon dominant the next time around

I keep hearing a lot about Kirkland's chin being suspect. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I know Khan, Wlad, and Margarito have all been KO'd as well. Does that mean they don't have chins? I think if Kirkland took the best shots Angulo had to offer, then he might be able to to take Martinez's as well. The question is, can Martinez take what Kirk is bringing? Lets not get silly now. You see the punches it took to KO marg. Khan and Wlad have been KOed and i'm not saying Kirkland's chin is any worst but Khan and Wlad defend their chin now, Kirkland doesn't.

In all honesty, I thought Barker was applying smart pressure to Martinez. Barker kept his hands up and made the fight very competitive before the KO. I'm not sure Kirk can apply that same type of pressure, but if he can, this fight might be interesting. I think pressure fighters are cryptonite for Martinez. Although he beat Pavlik, it was a close fight. I think Kirk has a shot at pulling off the victory if they fight. Williams is a pressure fighter. Kirkland leaves himself too far open, wide punches, Martinez will land and Kirkland will get KO. Kirkland should go for Alvarez.

I have a question for my fellow fans. Why won't Martinez entertain the notion of a title defense against James Kirkland? I know, he is in line to face Julio Jr but who the heck is that guy. Is Mexican TV money really worth your reputation as a top pound for pounder? Julio is a club fighter that Martinez is dying to feast on. The word is however, that Dibella does not want the Kirkland fight right now. In fact, it appears he is out right ducking the fight. With Good reason. Kirkland would eat this version of Sergio Martinez for lunch and Dibella is not going to risk his number one cash cow. Martinez, like Manny, is on the downside. But, to justify his high position in the P4p discussion, he needs to fight someone who is actually a threat. Not to outbox him, but to beat him. And kirkland is a threat. Believe you me Martinez in 37/38 now, has not got that many big fights left. At this moment in time Kirkland would not be a big fight. Martinez operates at 160lbs, he can still make 154lb, but only willing to move back down for a mega-fight. Chavez has a belt, Kirkland does not. If Kirkland were to fight and beat Alvarez, I'm sure Martinez would fight him Martinez KOs Kirkland early, he is far too open.

I for one don't think that Martinez is be one of the top 3 P4P like they try to make him out to be, but the truth of the matter is, Kirkland can't fight so Martinez would tear him up.

thats fair if Ann wolfe came out and said that, at the same time though, I think that Kirkland runs the risk of some unexpected speed bump if he waits three fights. Thats way to long. Now I am just going off the physical nature of Kirkland. He could overpower Martinez very easily, with all due respect to the champion and you. Kirkland can and will win this fight when Sergio stops ducking him

i disagree I think two years ago stylistically Martinez would be all wrong for Kirkland, but not right now. Martinez could not stand up to the brutality that Kirkland can create. He would wear him down, he one saving grace would be the fact that he does have the pop to stop James Kirkland. He does have that, but ducking the fight, not even discussing it, makes no sense. HBO should be putting more pressure on Martinez to make this fight, they are most likely waiting to see if Martinez lands mayweather, if he does, then this fight dies. If he doesn't, Kirkland is a great option to perhaps pass manny and take over the the number two spot on the pound for pound list, IMO of course

Believe you me With all due respect i think your judging Kirkland thinking Angulo was something special, He's not, you think Martinez won't find an opening early like the limited Angulo did, ofcourse he will and Kirkland will be alot more hurt by a puncher like Martinez, And its almost a certanity that Martinez will outbox Kirkland and not punch himself out. Martinez knocks him out early, he eats chinny wreckless fighters for breakfast.
