Khan urges Pacquiao to consider his future after controversial win over Marquez

Amir Khan is advising the great Manny Pacquiao to retire sooner rather than later or risk losing his cherished status as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
Britain’s world light-welterweight champion was a ringside commentator at Pacquiao’s narrow escape from defeat by Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night and became increasingly worried for his celebrated friend and spar-mate.
As controversy raged over the majority decision with which Pacquiao held on to his world welterweight crown – a verdict which the Mexican and all his countrymen damned as another great robbery in their close-fought trilogy – Khan said: ‘Manny doesn’t need to keep taking that one more fight which might end up taking some of the gloss of his great legacy as the best boxer in the world.

‘He’s got away with it against Marquez. Even I had him losing by two rounds. He’s my friend and I’m happy for him that he won. But for his sake we have to be honest. He would not beat Floyd Mayweather on this performance.
‘He is a legend already but he has to be careful now. He has some thinking to do. He has so much on his plate, what with his political work as a Congressman back home in the Philippines and everything else.’
Khan spoke up even though the earlier Pacquiao hangs up the gloves, the less chance of him landing a monster pay night against the thriller from Manila.
The pair have always insisted they will not fight each other but Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has given the first serious indication here that it could happen.
Controversial: Some commentators felt Marquez deserved at least a draw
Pacquiao might feel all the more inclined to do so after these comments from Khan, who is beginning to believe that he could defeat his 32-year-old friend and mentor.
When I asked him if he, as well as Mayweather, might beat the Pacquiao we watched in the MGM Grand Garden, this was Khan’s diplomatic answer:
‘Well, let me just say that in our sparring lately he’s not the one getting the better of it.’
Confirmation of that came on Monday when sources in Pacquiao’s camp revealed that he has decided not to spar with Khan again.
Arum was lining up Pacquiao for a spring fight against alternative light-welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who backed off a unification fight with Khan to box on the undercard here.
Bradley stopped fading veteran ex-champ Joel Casamayor but Khan would prefer Pacquiao to go ahead with the arrangement rather than a fourth war with Marquez. Khan says: ‘Of course Manny would beat Bradley, who would be easy for me. But it’s never going to be easy for Manny against Marquez because their clash of styles works against him.’
Nevertheless Pacquiao and his esteemed trainer Freddie Roach feel obliged to offer Marquez yet another re-match, with Roach saying: ‘If it happens I will to do my job a little better, I guess. I fully expected Manny to knock him out this time but we still have to find a way to overcome his counter-punching.’
Pacquiao insists he wants to settle the arguments once and for all and Arum wants to put on the fourth fight, not least to scotch the ‘ridiculous’ allegations that the scoring was fixed, adding: ‘The fights between these two are so close that the rounds are very difficult to score. A lot of people thought Marquez won yet the computer stats show Manny throwing and landing more punches.’
Confident: Marquez thought he had done enough to beat Pacquiao

To help rebut the accusation of fight rigging, they might coax Marquez out of his threatened retirement, at 38, by offering him home advantage in Mexico on May 5. That is a national day there and potentially another huge pay day, with the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City a sure-fire 120,000 sell out.
Khan, meanwhile, is heading for Washington on December 10 and a testing title defence against American Lamont Peterson in his home town.
That marks his return to Sky Sports. Then, unless Bradley becomes available, he will move up to light-welterweight in preparation for challenging Mayweather himself.
However, the new Sky deal is predicated on three fights in America, thereby making it unlikely he will be granted his wish for a homecoming fight in England.
Pacquiao should fight Mayweather, set the PPV record with him & then retire. He can't beat Mayweather, atleast get a big payday+record nos. out of it & then get out of the sport...
Some people have been saying this for very long...but I realized this only after the 3rd Marquez fight...the whole Pac team is a sham...1st round knockout/Pac gonna walk through Marquez etc? BULL****!
Retire for what?!?!?!
Pacquiao should retire after fighting Mayweather win, lose, or draw.
The two greatest fighters of this DECADE, settle it in the ring.
Why do some posters act like they've got some tight knit bond? I mean, even Edwin Valero got invited to Manny's birthday in the Philippines while Amir probably doesn't interact with Manny outside of overlapping training schedules. He stayed in a different hotel in the Philippines during training camp FFS!
Khan is his own man and knows it is business before friendship, sad but that is the real world ladies. Unless it is family or someone you grew up with all your life, trust no man.
this raps up his friendship with pac. not a genuine friend indeed. Faker. Roach should drop this guy.

Amir Khan is really picking for a fight with Pac now!! First he was talking about how manny and him are such good friends but Marquez won the fight and now this.
i learned that the hard way homie...be careful of those who always do and say nice things about you.....again i'll reserve judgement until the dusts settle down....
There is some old saying. It translates like : You dont know who your friends are until the ice breaks.
Time will tell. I do remember thinking that Khan was a kiss-ass. I 've seen him in interviews where he says how great Roach is and compared him to a Doctor, a surgeon, blah, blah,blah... something about Wildcard and supporting it as a student of Roach...more sucking up to Roach. There's something not sincere about him. Its like enough already. Maybe the rumors are true. Who knows? Pacquiao doesnt need to suck up. He's like the Karate kid and Roach is Mr. Miyagi.

stfu khan, why are you always so vocal about sh1t? you should consider a chin replacement..... had cortez not been in the fight with you against Maidana you would have got ktfo.
I like Amir Khan and I don't like Manny Pacquiao or think very highly of him. But this was wrong. I would like a friend to be honest with me, but not like this. I would like him to tell me 1 on 1. Poor comments by Khan considering he did it through the media.
With that said...Khan is actually speaking the truth here. But I think there's a lil more going on with Khan and Pac than meets the eyes. There seem to be some kind of hidden anger and frustration in Khans words. Almost as if he's tired of being the nice friend saying positive things about Pac, only to have Roach say stuff like: I would easily choose to train Pac if he and Khan fight. After Khan thought that Roach would have a hard time choosing between them. And then you have Arum saying Khan and Pac's friendship is not all that, they're not that close. So Khan now sees how negative Top Rank/Team Pac is towards him, and he's getting fed up to the point where he's going to be negative back to them but still claim he's a friend, like they do to him.
damn , i did'nt know a flomo like you have some sort of a standard or principle whatsoever....but props, i agree with you 100% with the bold....
Yeah, I know what you mean. I get that same feeling, too. I'm sure there is some jealousy on Khan's part. How many times has Roach said he would "die for Manny Pacquiao" ?
No, you aren't the only one. I don't think Khan likes being #2.

Khan to Manny = friend, sparring partner, fight judge, and now adviser? Khan looking to set up a future fight and chin-testing.
If Khan really wants another chin testing, all he has to do is give Maidana the rematch he deserves.

I agree with you .
This is what Khan said on his twitter :
" Article in the telegraph about Pacquiao n Marquez fight they take my words in the wrong context and twist em"
