I think that would be ideal.
Arum and Roach do not seem eager to fight Pac .. and Pac doesn't really care in my opinion since he is a multi-tasking goofball (great warrior regardless)
I would pay for Kahn and Mayweather ..
and the winner fights Pac this month of next year haha ....
of course Id rather see pac vs floyd ...
but both guys have hinted retirement...
let Kahn get some spotlight
I'd like to see Khan do his thing for a little while longer before this happens - perhaps a fight with Maidana (at 147), Mosley, Marquez or something like that. Things change over time, so we will so who and what will make the most sense for him prior to getting into talks with Floyd...
after a while Ortiz and Berto will be available after their fight in January. His out of the ring rival Bradley will also be around. All highly marketable and winnable fights, he may even be favored against all of them. One or two of those matchups might even turn out to be PPV worthy, particularly one against Marquez. If Khan can carve out his own decent niche on HBO PPV, that is gonna mean even bigger bucks once he sits with with Mayweather.
Depending on what he does with his weight, I think a fight with an older name at welter might be ok - he seemed to get some good rub off Judah's name value, even though boxing folks know he was well past it.
It's still about getting the best experience possible and gaining popularity along the way - you want to get to a point where you can actually have confidence to WIN the big fight, not just be happy you're getting the chance.
While it was good to see a young fighter get a chance at the big time with Ortiz, he totally fell apart and looked like the stage was too big for him. It was the worst possible outcome for a young dude, seriously. Rookie mistakes leading to a KO...now Victor has to earn his stripes all over again. Amir should learn a little from that - I'd hate to see another young future star type be dismantled because of inexperience in high level fights....against one of the eras best.
I think Roach knows Khan has a better style to beat Floyd than Manny does. He's not going to admit it, but deep down i think he knows Manny doesn't have the tools to get it done even though he has the speed, athleticism, and power to make it a competitive fight.
The earliest this fight could possibly happen is July 2012, only if Floyd decides to fight in February instead.
Since Arum just revealved that Pacquiao wants Marquez again before a bout with Mayweather, because Floyd "will still be there a year from now", I would LOVE to see Floyd fight Sergio in February and Khan in July. Khan could fight his first WW fight in April and be ready to go 3 months later. He's young, in his prime.
It's CLEAR AS DAY that Arum and Team Pac don't want Mayweather. That LA Times report should leave NO DOUBT.
