This thread is not to denigrate or insult any fighter in particular. Just a recap of this year's major PPV fights (so far).
Pacquiao-Mosley: A huge disappointment that left the arena audience booing the participants by round 8, and the home PPV buyers feeling they misspent $60. As soon as Mosley got hit, he refused to engage. Pacquiao seemed unable to step on the gas to give the fans the satisfying finish they wanted.

Mayweather-Ortiz: A definitive finish, but certainly not the way the fans wanted. Again, the arena was booing the announcement. Ortiz' foul prompted Floyd's retaliation. Legal? Yes. Satisfying? Nay.

Hopkins-Dawson: More boos. Notice a trend here? Dawson made a somewhat questionable move, and Hopkins sustained an even more questionable injury.

Pacquiao-Marquez 3: Nobody happy. Boos, for sure. This time accompanied by airborne beer. Nobody walked away happy. Pacquiao fans wanted definitive closure via an impressive performance. Marquez fans (and Pacquiao detractors) wanted what they perceived as a "fair" judgment.

DID PPV BUYERS GET THEIR MONEY'S WORTH THIS YEAR?
in england the ppv fights have recently been moved 2 ppv on primetime but because primetime only really does ppv not tht many people watch it so the sales 4 them r really crap, when khan vs judah was on it it did less than 50,000 buys which didnt give khan the money he wanted which is y he has moved back 2 sky, they have loads of people watching so can give him more through sponsors etc which is good as we only have 2 pay 4 sky (like hbo) n we have cricket, football, f1, golf, rugby etc plus all the big fights like ward/froch n khan/peterson. This is what should happen on normal hbo, some1 said earlier tht if ppv didnt happened then top level fighters wouldnt make serious money but mayweather got $25mil b4 ppv money n pac got $22mil b4 ppv money which isnt bad 4 1 nights work
I think PPV's should only be for the Superfights. I used to order every PPV here in England from Haye v Klitschko to Khan vs Salita but I'm not doing it anymore, times are hard. I'd rather just download it the next day off of here.
I buy fights, I stream fights. At the end of the day, Ill buy what appeals to me. I'm not going to buy a fight simply because it's Boxing. I love Hip Hop, but damn if Im going to buy every album because it's branded "Hip Hop".
Good breakdown, this years PPVs as a whole have been disappointing
Mind... Cotto-Margs II is just around the corner, and i'll be very surprised if that doesn't deliver
The only one I personally bought was Dawson-B-hop because there were no parties being thrown that night, I knew that fight and card were not going to be good but I wanted to see it anyhow. It was not worth the money no doubt but I wasn't even sad about it and would do it again.
The other fights I watched at parties and only brought a case beer to each, so it was worth it to me because I got to talk mad smack to people who think they know about boxing.
I'm never happy dishing out money, but the Pac-Marquez card was a great one, I liked the first 2 fights and the Main Event, the Bradley fight was too easy for him, but 3 out of 4 great fights is a SOLID night for PPV.
pacman marquez 3 was definitely worth it
alvarado presscot was good
and marquez pacman as well
they were both good show
I dont think the decision brings down the value of the PPV
Well to the person who said Boxing does not need PPV's, so Pro Wrestling and MMA do need PPVs?
Yes, I will order some PPV's, I would have ordered Haye and Klitchsko for a cheap price of 19.99 or 24.99. I ordered May vs Ortiz and it was ok, wasn't totally disgusted.
I am lucky I never have ordered a Pacquiao fight, I wanted so badly to order Pacquiao vs Clottey, Margarito, and Shane a little bit, but something told me not to and BOY was I right.
I don't mind. You might miss something if you don't watch the bouts. You never know what is going to happen.
There is nothing like watching a live big fight.
I do an event with it, I invite a bunch of ppl.
A lot of drinking a ball breaking.
Pac/Marquez was a decent card (the Prescott/Alvardo was an excellent fight)
The fight itself wasnt bad and you are watching the reactions live instead of learning from it by somebody else thru their opinion.
I like to see things for myself without any opinions influencing
I never pay to watch fights....cant afford it. Id sooner save my money for later days and for food and such.
Im a proud scrounger. I wait for the fights to be uploaded onto the internet or get a streams worth. I also do the same with p0rn. I never pay for the DVD, i just wait patiently for it to be put up on the net LOL.
The problem is that you end up stroking off to last year's chick.
None of those PPVs have featured 2 elites facing off. Mosley hasnt been elite for 5 years, Ortiz is a contender with a belt, Dawson is a top contender, JMM is elite 2 weight divisions below where the fight took place. Agbeko-Mares and Ward-Froch are free and they're much better fights as far as the best fighters in a division facing each other.
But even when it is just ONE elite, you often have to buy the PPV.
What you said is completely accurate.
But if there's no PPV, how do you compensate the guys at the very elite level of the sport?
Without that financial incentive (reaped from PPV bucks), the very best guys would have no incentive to take risks against each other.

I buy almost all of them and don't regret it. Never will. It's $60....I shell that out for a big event in my sport, no questions asked.
I understand maybe that's a lot of money to some people and that's totally understandable, but for me it's definitely worth it.
This year:
Pac/Mosley was meh top to bottom...Vazquez/Arce was great but fans did not get their monies worth.
Floyd/Ortiz was great top to bottom as far as I'm concerned.
Hopkins/Dawson definitely did not give fans their monies worth, but Linares and Demarco was GREAT.
Pac/Marquez was great top to bottom. Horrible decision yes, but 7 out of the 8 guys fighting on that card giving it EVERYTHING they had(I'm looking at you Casa...please retire).
PPV is a necessary evil and people just have to accept it instead of ***** about it. If you don't like the fight don't buy it....if you like the fight buy it knowing you have to spend $60. We wouldn't be able to see these fights if PPV wasn't an option so in a way I'm happy it exists.
Here in the US, you have to pay for HBO to watch the 24/7's, then you have to pay $60 to watch a crap or dishonest fight.
Tough to justify to non-fans.
Woah, that's harsh. I'm surprised people are still able to pay for it nowadays. $60! I'm sure that's around £40 in UK money. There's no fight on earth that would make me part with that.
;11419866']I love boxing, obviously, but I have to say I think it was much better in the days before PPV. Sure, you didn't have all the glitz, razmattaz, 24/7 and 4 week build-up (at least) but I think the fights were better.
In this climate £15 is much better spent in my petrol tank or shopping trolley. I just find nowadays that the fights almost never live up to the hype but this is because the fights are hyped waaaayyy too much bevause of the glitz, razmattaz etc, etc etc.
Just my two bob's worth.

If I had to pay for Ward-Froch, I would not mind. I can pony up $24.95 or $29.95 for that fight.
Top guys at the top of their game who always bring it in an important fight for the championship of a big tourney.
I agree with this. Cut the price in half and stop putting on $hit undercards as well.
