question is HBO is publicly traded is there anyway we can get the real PPV of floyd-ortiz from public records? Yes there is a way. A SHAREHOLDER has rights when he purchases a publicly traded stock. One right in particular is the right to inspect certain company records and books. Shareholder can request records and books of a corporation if he has a valid purpose like whether the affairs of the corporation are properly conducted so that he may vote intelligently on questions of corporate policy and management. If one of you guys owns time warner, id call corporate ask for investor relations, and simply ask if they have the numbers of the ortiz/mayweather fight so you can make an informative decision in the next shareholders meeting. If they refuse, hit em with the shareholders right to inspect records and books, and threaten them with litigation(obviously youre not serious). But hey its worth a shot.

HBO is a PUBLIC COMPANY (traded in the NY Stock exchange) and is regulated by the SEC under the Sec Act 1933 and Sex Exchange Act 1934. These acts are well known in the financial world. It means that every YEAR Time Warner (HBO's parent company) has file a 10-k (a report of company's financial statements AUDITED BY INDEPENDENT CPA) and ever QUARTER they must file quarterly statements called 10-Q. SIMILAR reports must be given to SHAREHOLDERS. Needless to say MARK TAFFET (considered an INSIDER) cannot release phony numbers because it could result in an inflated STOCK PRICE. They can be civil and criminally liable for misrepresentation or fraud (includes up to 20 years in prison, fined up to 5 millions dollars, i.e See Martha Stewart) Bob Arum, Mayweather, GBP are NOT publically traded are not bound by these laws. They can say 1 billion ppv sales and they are not liable monetarily or criminally. Although, people would call BS and it would destroy their credibility. Pac and Mosley numbers are far from official. Only Arum, Mosley, Pacquiao and god knows

It really doesn't matter... people will just roll with that number until HBO whips out there numbers. Just like people are rolling with the Pac-Mosley numbers until Showtime does their thing.
