Joe Frazier to be honoured ahead of Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez's WBO welterweight title contest
Bob Arum, involved in Frazier’s fights through his promotion of Muhammad Ali three decades ago, told Telegraph Sport on Wednesday: “We have organised a montage of Joe’s life which will be shown in the arena before the fight, and then we will sound the bell in remembrance of Joe.”
Pacquiao revealed that he was inspired in his career by watching DVDs of Frazier’s fights, and aims to end his career — probably in 2013 — with a swansong fight in the Philippines. “I hope it can be another version of ‘The Thrilla in Manila’ . What happened with Joe Frazier is very sad. We’re going to pray to God and condolences to his family. His memory in boxing will remain. We won’t forget that he was a good fighter, a legendary fighter, and he put on a good fight with Muhammad Ali.
“When I was growing up, I heard about this big fight in the Philippines, and I asked my uncle for a DVD because I wanted to watch that fight.
“My dream is to do a fight like Frazier and Ali had in the Philippines, and I hope we can promote a fight that big in the Philippines.”
Arum believes such an event could be possible. “It’s hard to imagine any other event coming close to the thriller that the event in Manila was in 1975, but it would be a great way for Manny to sign off after four more fights. Right now though, he needs to get past Marquez on Saturday night.”

Great to see the Boxing fraternity honoring one of their own. Major props to Floyd as well for offering to cover funeral costs.
Great gesture but why announce it to the world? I'm sure everyone knew smokin joe would be honored.
oh wait, we can only harp on Floyd when he announces things. jk guys. This is great for boxing, period. I hope every fight for the rest of the year honors Frazier.
R.I.P Smokin' Joe.
Ouuuuuch, coming from the guy who lacks basic English spelling, punctuation and grammar skills. I'm guessing you don't get out much.
We all make "mis-steaks" right chowwokka???
I asked a question and he answered it...O_O Are you all up their in the head?
Don't pretend like typing Joe Frazier and Manny Pacquiao into Google boosts your credentials as a boxing fan. I didn't know who handed Pacquiao his FOTD award because I didn't care for it. I don't think he deserved the award so I didn't care to read up on it.
Back to the topic... Great gesture by Top Rank, hope it doesnt turn out cheesy. I wish Ali could be in the crowd and they could show a few shots of his reaction while the tribute is going on.

Well maybe next time you should stop and think before trying to make smart ass comments about a fighter you don't seem to care much about. That way you don't come off as a complete tool.
Honestly, I would be shocked if any professional boxer didn't know who Smokin' Joe Frazier was, let alone one of today's biggest stars.
u talk as if u know alot about boxing saying pinoy fans dont know shiet.. yet u dont know who handed manny his FOTD Trophy? :lol1:

Awesome. It's a ****ing shame that the memory and life of Joe Frazier is getting lost in this disgusting Penn State Scandal. I mean, we as boxing fans, won't forget, but main stream sports media has been non stop with this Penn State bull****.
I actually wrote something about Smokin' Joe when I found out he died. I write a lot and figured I'd write something about him about what his fights meant to me.
I also wrote something about Arturo Gatti.

huh! but i think joe handed manny the FOTD trophy so manny dont know joe,,.. fool! :lol1:
Don't show that to Floyd! He might take his money back for the funeral cost!
jk flomos :D
The Late Smokin Joe and Pacman have one thing in common, both are known for their power punches coming from Left hook, straight! Physically they are both not that tall, compare to their opponents but still use their speed and power to beat their opponents.
To be fair, in order to do that song justice you either couldn't have gone through puberty or you have to be a castrato. Plus learning the lyrics never hurts.
It was a big let down for me. They should have sang something stupid like "Eye of the Tiger".

As much as I despise Arum for being the real cause of the Pac vs. Floyd fight not happening (at least IMO) I must say this is a classy move on his part.
