I can’t judge my place in boxing history
By Manny Pacquiao/Courtesy HBO Sports
As a parent, I use daily life as a tool to teach my children. I share my philosophy with them that professional boxing is a job. It stays in the gym where it belongs. I hold no malice, no ill will, towards any of my opponents. Like any other job, I work hard daily to achieve success and to reach my full potential.
Do I want to win? You bet. I am an athlete and a competitor. That is what drives me in all my training camps. I like to win. But that does not mean I want to hurt anyone badly. That is why before and after every fight I pray for the welfare and safety of my opponent. They are not my enemy but my opposition. I have the utmost respect for them. I never speak ill of them to my family or to anyone.
I was a good boy growing up, even when I started to learn boxing. I never got in fights in school or on the streets. That’s not what I was about. Now that I’m a parent, I know the importance of teaching by example. What matters most in the Pacquiao household is church, family, education and giving back. That is what my wife Jinkee and I emphasize every day.
When I became a professional boxer, I did it because I loved the sport, I loved to compete and it seemed like a good way to earn money for my family. When I began winning, a new goal was to become a world champion, for the same reasons, plus for personal pride of performance.
I have always tried to perform to the best of my abilities in every fight. After I defeated Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and David Diaz and had won world titles in five different divisions I was very proud of what I accomplished. But after I moved up to welterweight and beat Oscar De La Hoya, who was a personal hero to me, I think that is when I had a real sense of the history I had achieved.
Its this humble attitude that sets Pac apart from anyone else, he has achieved such a great deal we would forgive him for boasting or gloating but he wont have it. Thats the sign of someone so secure within himself unlike floyd. Floyd has to boast because he knows people wont give him his due, so he has to do it himself.
Pacs right up with the best who ever did it.!
When its all said and done, he will be known as the greatest fighter of our era. No one will ever break his record of 8 world titles in 8 different weight classes. No one will ever break his record of 4 lineal titles in 4 different weight classes.
I can't say hes the greatest of all time because the people that fought back in the day were fighting before cameras were invented.
I agree in everything that u said.
You're not a true boxing fan if you don't think MANNY's accomplishment are worthy of atg and legend talk. On the other hand, you're not a boxing fan either if you don't think that PBF will easily figure Manny out for an decision.
Both are great fighters, but both are also known cherrypickers. Most great modern fighter have one time or another worked in the orchards.. The more money involved the bigger the orchard gets. Storey of boxing, so don't hate on both Manny's and PBF's accomplishments.
My feeling though, is that PBF has to beat Manny in order to pass him on the atg list, whatever that is. You jus can't discount 4 lineal titles. So let's get it on.
PBF on a hard fought split decision.
Pacquiao will remain great and accomplished even without the names of faded legends Oscar Dela Hoya and Shane Mosley in his resume, I blamed Bob Arum for putting these match ups with all the money and hype, but has done little to secure Manny's place in boxing history. 8 world titles? is it really something? particularly the 8th belt at 154. What has Pac and his opponent, Antonio Margarito ever done to warrant the number 1 and 2 ranking by the WBC at the Junior Middleweight division. and unlike in the past when champions fought at least one mandatory challenger.
the rest of Manny's world titles were legitimate wins, thats impressive enough.
PAC beating Margarito for the 154 belt is more legit than Oscar getting the belt at 160. Oscar was fighting a legit fighter but we all know he lost that fight. He was only given the belt for his sixth weight divisions to get the green light on the Hopkins fight. Why the belt was on the line for PAC vs Margo I don't know but PAC actually won that fight.
Not ATG its easy :
Cotto = Catchweight fight
Margarito = Catchweight fight
Marquez I and II = Controversy
De La Hoya = Weight drained and Mayweather beat De La Hoya at his real weight before after De La Hoya beat Ricardo Mayorga by KO in the 6th round
Erik Morales Rematches = Weight drained
Agapito Sánchez = Draw
Singsurat = Pacquiao lost by knock out
Torrecampo = Pacquiao lost by knock out
Erik Morales at his real weight = Pacquiao lost
Clottey = Nobody
Hatton = Lost his undefeated record against Mayweather
Mosley = Mosley was 39 years old and Mayweather already beat him after Mosley beat Antonio Margarito by KO in 9th round
Marquez III = Fighting a 38 year old Lightweight
LOL
Cotto: Ehh...he lives in Puerto Rico, there for I can not fight him.
Margarito: We can't fight because we're not fighting to see who the best is.
Marquez: He called me out...so what happened when Margarito said it to your face.

Don't worry, Son. Once they invent an award for 'Outstanding Contribution To Fuck All', You'll have your day in the sun.

You're a tosser mate...Pac is already an ATG. Mayweather can never be in the same level let alone mentioned in the same breath.

PAC is the GOAT.
Floyd: What Manny is doing would be equivalent to as if I was knocking out heavyweight.
