All this talk about Bute reminded me of the Andrade fight where he was clearly ko'd. The ref didn't want to stop it controversially at the last second ala Taylor-Chavez. That was the longest count ever. They may have fought 3 times if Andrade would have had that victory.
Bute got up in time. Anyway, Andrade was butchered in the rematch.
He got up in time? What fight were you watching and how much time are you talking? If you're talking about real time, he got counted out twice. In 'referee saved his hide' time, then he got up in time.
Bute got knocked out. The ref saved his hide. He's not undefeated to me. His official record shows him as an undefeated fighter, but he got his butt whooped in that fight. That was a KO.
he got up before 10, and destroyed andrade in the rematch
^This. And not only that, but Bute was apparently ill going into that first match. Him and his team never made mention of it until after Bute knocked Andrade out in the rematch, because they didn't want to look like they were making excuses.
You just made a completely hypothetical situation and passing it off almost like it actually happened :lol1:
that's sad
Actually I didn't try to pass anything off as if it actually happened, so don't be too sad, whatever you feel, you did that to urself, true story.:nono:
I think most are looking moreso towards when Bute got up, over the refs performance. But to me, it was the refs performance that left the doubt.
IMO Bute got up anywhere between 8 to 10 seconds. But Malon Wright meant for Bute to win period. It took him almost 40 seconds to count to 10.
In boxing there is a time keeper, who also counts the 10 second count with the ref, that way if the ref ushers the other fighter to the neutral corner, the timekeeper keeps the count & signals to thr ref who resume counting forward from the proper count.
Marlon right didn't do that. He stopped the count & started counting from where he stopped even though it was damn near a minute for him to count to 10. He meant Bute was going to win period. The bell didn't even ring until Canada made sure that Bute was on his feet.
It seems to me like even if Andrade had ko'd Bute anytime before the final bell that Wright would have called time out & taken 2 points for the brutal ko, give Bute 5 minutes to recover, then tell Andrade he couldn't punch for the rest of the round, that's how utterly sad his officiating was to me.
Wright could have given Bute the fight simply because he stood up & the controvery wouldn't have been so bad. But he went out of his way to make sure Bute won.

Can't be saved by the bell...If a referee rules that Bute was fit to continue even tho he was leaning on the ropes just to stand, he is incompetent...
Andrade TKO 12
That's not what saved by the bell means, at least according to IBF. It means that the bell cannot prevent a downed fighter from being counted out. He needs to rise, but is not required to show he's ready to continue if the ref knows the round is over (for example, by hearing the 10 sec bell before the KD). It's the difference between a KO and a TKO.
That only makes sense, the "dead on his feet" ruling is meant to protect the fighter, it's not ceremonious. And in contrast with JCC-Taylor, there really was 0 time left on the clock. Wright did not act like he knew that, that's what stinks here.
The ref was bad that night he kept a contender from being a world champion. Bute got lucky this was fought in Canada. Andrade should have won by tko that night.

Andrade TKO 12
Doesn't matter what time he got up, he's being held up by the ropes and is in no shape to continue.
Any referee looks at the condition he's in and Richard Steele him. After 20-30 seconds between the knockdown and Byrd's stalling tactics, the man is still done. Librado just needs a few seconds to really devastate Bute.
We've seen fighters get stopped for being in a stronger condition than Bute. Meldrick Taylor for one.
