Boxrec, Wikipedia, and even Top Rank's own website have Pacquiao recorded as winning only 6 world titles... not 8.

Quote from Top Rank's website...count'em:
"He has won world titles at 112, 122, 130, 135, 147, and 154 pounds."
WBC Flyweight World Champion (112 lbs)
IBF Junior Featherweight World Champion (122 lbs)
WBC Super Featherweight World Champion (130 lbs)
WBC Lightweight World Champion (135 lbs)
WBO Welterweight World Champion (147 lbs)
WBC Super Welterweight World Champion (154 lbs)
Why? Because:
A) The Ring title is not an official world title.
B) The IBO Jr. Welterweight is a Regional Minor Title.
Chalk it up as the Guinness not knowing much about boxing.
Don't be surprised if he's removed from the Guinness due to a misinformed error.
Also, considering the title won at a catch weight against Cotto, and the vacant title won at a catch weight against a guy who wasn't even ranked at 154 (Margarito) it seems delusional for informed boxing fans to get excited this so-called achievement.
I said I might consider. Read much? I say that because I know Top Rank and Boxrec are going by what's OFFICIAL!!!. As I am going by what's OFFICIAL!!!
Now... if Guinness named the IBO, and you admitted that it's not an official world title, then why are you still saying that he won 8 world titles?
Again... go put in your ground work and let me know what kind of results you come up with.
So you might consider changing your view if those websites are updated?
Again, that's pretty stupid.
Top Rank consider Manny Pacquaio an 8 Division Champion anyway. They announced him as one in the Mosley fight, no?
So, is that 'official'? Or is it only offical when it say's 6 on their website?
I say that he has won 8 either World Titles because he has won 6 Major Sactioning Bodies World Titles or 2 Lineal Titles accross 8 different weight classes. Nothing to do with the IBO Title he won. The IBO Title he won isn't including in those 8 Titles he won.
Put in my Ground work? :lol1: I'm ok, thanks.
I genuinely don't care what a few specific website say. I don't care about Manny Pacquaio.
But what you are doing is denying that he has won Titles in 8 Divisions.
And the fact is; Offically, and technically, he has.
I don't credit his Jr Middleweight win, just as I don't creit Morales Jr Welterweight win.
But the fact is, offically and technically, despite being worthless titles, they have those titles.
And Pac, has won Titles in 8 Divisions.
Not the IBO, no.
The Lineage? Of course. Of course a Lineal Title is an official World Title.
So you're saying if Boxrec and Top Rank update their website to Pacquaio having 8 World Titles you would then also change your view to him having 8 Titles?
So bascially, you're view is defined by what those websites state?
That's pretty stupid, man.
The only way you can deny that Pacquaio doesn't have 8 Titles is to deny the legitimacy of the Lineage. Which is outright flawed and illogical.

ok.. so the Ring and the IBO are official world titles in your book. Fine. You're free to have anything exist in your own little head. Let me know when you've convinced Boxrec and Top Rank. Send me the link to where they changed their information and I might consider changing my mind.

Crazy Fans just want to make the steroidfilsuper Manny a God.
the funny part is that someone here said they would call guiness to tell them they made a mistake..
i certainly hope he posts a transcript of the conversation :lol1:
Yes.
And he has won 8 World Titles in 8 different divisions.

The Guinness reads: "Most boxing world titles in different weight divisions"

well name another fighter who has won title in 8 weight classes..ring belt=lineal title..not world title
But, it's not an opinion.
The Guinness Book of Records state that Pacquaio has won legit titles in 8 Weight classes.
The fact of the matter is; He has.
He has won either a Major Sactioning Bodie's title or a Lineal Title in 8 different Weight classes. Fact.
And that is all they're saying.
The Guinness reads: "Most boxing world titles in different weight divisions"

So a fighter can go idle for three years and still be the "true" champion? Should a legit contender be punished for a the "true" champ refusing to fight them?
You classify Morales as a "paper" champion, which i actually agree on, but in the case of a Michael Spinks he was a paper champion as many felt he lost his rematch with Larry Holmes. Tyson won all three sanctioning belts-WBC,WBA, and IBF, he also beat Holmes who many felt had beat SPinks in the rematch. As a result, Spinks the "lineal" champ was a paper champ in many eyes. When Tyson finished him in 91 seconds he proved the Lineal title was only a paper title-- in the Spinks case.
If you're idle for three years the Lineage will be vacated.
If you're Idle for 3 years the chances are you have taken a short retirement anyway.
Micheal Spinks offically won the fight with Larry Holmes thus was still the Lineal Champion. And that's a fact.
Whether or not he deserved to be or was worthy at that point is another story. But the fact is, he was the Lineal Champion thus the Champion.
And what does the fact he was destroyed in less than 2 minutes have to do with him being the Lineal Champion?
The Lineal Champion could be knocked out with a single punch. It still doesn't change the fact they are the Champion.

spinks"offically" beat holmes 2 times..so what others think doesnt matter..we was the lineal champion
Which makes Guinness either ignorant or mere fans themselves because their not dealing with what's official. When people decide to personally "count" the Ring as an official title you're dealing with opinions.

Stripped of what? Its a title, the lineal title. There is no mandatory defense or any of that crap
You lose the title once you retire or change weight classes.
Do you know that there hasnt been a Bantamweight lineal champ since Pinango in 1987?

Guinness is as far from ignorant as it gets
i am not defending the WBC. In fact, it was obvious that they had their hands in getting Saul Alvarez, Chavez, and Morales titles due to their linkage to Mexico.
Martinez getting stripped by the WBC for failing to fight Zbik was obviously a ploy to get Chavez an easy opponent.
Morales was suppose to fight Matthysse, yet that fight never happened as GBP probably gave him step aside money and he pretended to be injured.
The subjective part is that there are so many intangibles in determining what should be considered real champions.
THere are many times where the RIng belt which is now owned by GBP has exercised poor judgment. Pavlik flat out ducked Paul Williams with staph infections, and even missed doctor appointments, despite being idle he never had to worry about being stripped, it never happens with the lineal title.
If you want to count the WBC,WBA, IBF, and Ring/Lineal as all legit than its fine. But than sometimes you get fighters that are IBO or NABO titles that have been more active and fought better competition than some of the "legit" champions.
So why do you rely more on the "major" titles then?
The RING title is simply given to the best fighters in the division. Just look at the RING champs and tell me which doesnt belong, and then look at all of the Major titles and tell me who doesnt belong
Dont forget Guinness :D
Which makes Guinness either ignorant or mere fans themselves because their not dealing with what's official. When people decide to personally "count" the Ring as an official title you're dealing with opinions.
It's clear the only people regarding the Ring as an official world title is boxing fans. Promoters, however, understand that if their fighter wins a Ring title, he has not won an official world title. That's why, for example, Top Rank, did not count it for Pacquiao.
If Top Rank don't consider Pacquaio to be an 8 Division Champion then why do Top Rank events such as Pacquaio-Mosley announce him as an '8 Division Champion'?

its not a world title.it;s "THE TITLE"
