Just finished watching Sugar Ray Leonard vs Mayweather Sr on youtube.
Young Sr surprisingly had a few moments!
But what impressed me most was the heart Mayweather showed, never giving up against the clearly better Ray Leonard.
You're acting as if everyone who uses the sholder roll defense has the same ability with it.
Lil Floyd is much much much better defensively than Big Floyd was.
Not that I think Lil Floyd could beat Ray Leonard, I don't. I think Leonard would beat him soundly.
But just because Leonard manage to penetrate Big Floyds defence with such ease doesn't mean he would with Lil Floyd.
Plenty of fighters have penetrated Ian Napa's defense with absolute ease. It doesn't mean they can beat anyone who also uses the sholder roll defense.
I'm not saying Floyd Jr would have no chance just based on that fight but the way SRL took that shoulder roll defense apart has to make him the favorite in a fantasy matchup. Of course Floyd is better than his father in every way but they use the same defensive principles and SRL knew how to beat that style.
I recall Sr saying he was shot in the leg just before the SRL fight
I can't see that being true since he fought only a month previous to the Leonard fight. He was out of boxing for a year and a half after fighting Leonard.
It was definitely right after the Leonard fight.
On topic: :hail::hail::hail: to Floyd. Leonard was a bad man

Mayweather Sr took a punch very well, better than his brother for certain. He also had impressive handspeed and skill but the power just wasn't there. After the Leonard fight, he was shot in a family dispute and was never quite the same, although he had a competitive pair of fights with Marlon Starling, one of the best defensive boxers of the era.

Took SRL 3 rds to dismantle the shoulder roll defense. People who think Floyd Jr would beat SRL should watch that fight.

Sr did pretty well for himself, considering ray leonard was a top prospect and gold medalist, the major differenes between jr and sr is junior has the best conditioning in boxer and his superb punch placement.

aint it obvious? what was required for someone to fight a guy like ray leonard that is also the main reason why floyd is widely crticised?
balls
Honest question, when did you start watching Mayweather fight?
I agree 1000 pct...Ive never really liked Mayweather Sr. much...but u have to give the man credit for standing up to a prime SRL and trying to fight back and taking some HELLACIOUS shots from him! Definitely...
