That would be dumb. It's only going to make him look like a cherry picking guy that promotes ducking fighters. Martinez wasn't a PPV fighter when Bob Arum was asked about Chavez Jr. vs Martinez. Now, if Margarito beats Cotto, he'll put him in with Martinez. This guy is a complete wreck. Bob Arum just needs to get with the program, or get lost. He's really doing a number on the sport. While he's at it, he wants to make it seem as if the other promotional companies are doing something wrong. Gary Shaw, Lou DiBella, and GBP can put on shows together. They can work with each other. Bob Arum doesn't work with others because he's a crook. He lies about the gross and tries to pocket the money. GBP had to sue him for not properly reporting the gross profit. He likes to stay in house so nobody *****es when the numbers get cooked.
It's pretty much a given that we will see Martinez vs Margarito II next.
Again I have stated this several times, so I'm not suprised Arum has came out with this statement.
It goes like this.....Marg wins (which he will) he faces Martinez next at 154. Cotto wins (which I doubt) he faces Alvarez in a unification bout at 154. It may also be possible that he goes for Chavez Jr. Middleweight strap but I think Cotto feels uncomfortable with going to 160 (just my opinion).
If margarito-martinez happens i will bet half of my points on margarito to tko martinez again.
ha, I'll take your bet for any amount, Martinez is a completely different fighter at this stage in his career, I see him stopping Tony.
If Cotto beats Marg, you can expect Pacquiao/Cotto II
If Cotto wins he will fight Canelo or Chavez Jr.
Pac vs Cotto II will never happen (unless Cotto is some how able to clean out 154).
I find that funny, being that Pacman is considered greater than both, beat them both & was actually given a superwelterweight title for defeating Margarito, that's kinda funny to me. But he won't put Pacman in with him, but he'll sure throw Margarito to the wolves, hmmmmm.
winning a belt at jmw doesn't make you a jmw. pac's campaigning at ww were he is giving up pretty significant amount of weight.. but whatever
anyways, i think margarito will still beat cotto even with the eye issue but should retire after that.
a fight against a caliber of martinez would seriously fukk him up at this point
I believe Cotto said he doesn't want to fight Martinez.
Wrong, he said he didnt bring him the money that a margarito, floyd or pac fight would bring. I believe he actually said Do you think I can get 5 million out of a fight with Martinez?
I know someone from the Martinez camp claims they can make 150 and are willing to...but I'm almost certain "Team Pacquiao" wouldn't negotiate this fight in the public before the Marquez fight (with serious intent at least)...I think you're reading too much into offhand interview comments from, I don't know who. If Pacquiao says he's willing to fight at 150 once more, cool, make the fight happen, if he wants to remain at 147, I wouldn't call it "crouching," that's his weight division.
Martinez is approaching 37 years, I'm just saying, any day now dude is going to get old in that ring and all credit will be stripped of the guy who beats him....might as well do it at 154, imo. Although, if Manny wants to remain at 147, at his comfort zone, I won't get mad over it.
Listen, it seems like you think I'm saying Pacman is ducking, well I'm not. What I'm saying is that it is a fact Pacman is considered a greater fighter than Cotto & Margarito who he beat. But he beat Margarito at superwelter. I simply find it funny that he'll offer up Margarito for Martinez to feast on instead of putting his best fighter in there at a weight both have championed, period.
If margarito-martinez happens i will bet half of my points on margarito to tko martinez again.
Ill take that bet, but why don't we go all in,since we're both sooo confident & all?
Styles make fights, Margarito is still the only fighter to beat Martinez conclusively (Williams I was a toss up) in his 52 fight career. Sergio till doesn't like being pressured or walked down, as we just saw when he got his nose broken by and struggled mightily against an unknown in Darren Barker.
Plus Martinez would have to shed some weight to fight Margs, unless Tony wanted that MW strap. I think at 154 (or the 150 Sergio claims he wants to make for midgets) it would be a lot more competitive than people think.
Wasn't even remotely competitive...
I agree... marg will always be a problem to martinez.
I find that funny, being that Pacman is considered greater than both, beat them both & was actually given a superwelterweight title for defeating Margarito, that's kinda funny to me. But he won't put Pacman in with him, but he'll sure throw Margarito to the wolves, hmmmmm.
is not that funny or weird, Margo always be hell for anyone.and if Margo win in december i think he deserve to fight martinez. It will be good fight and big money for martinez.
and probably maravilla want a revenge.
Matinez is ducking Pirog like the plague yet yall think he's willing to fight Margarito?
Martinez was and still is terrified of Margarito and will duck and dodge him as long as he is active.
Ishida is next.
Martinez beats Tony
but at least it's a good fight for Martinez
he'll never get Chavez, Pac, or Floyd
this rematch is quality
Tony won't go down on a damn blocked punch
Watch that fight again my friend. Barker was walking him down and as usual Sergio had his hands at his knees with his faux 'slick' style and was getting tagged with endless jabs and straight rights, to the point that his face was bloodied up and his nose smashed.
Margarito never stops pressuring you and throws endless shots, Sergio knows this better than anyone. Martinez fights exactly the same way now that he did when Tony stomped a mudhole in him.
Perhaps.
But it would seem that Sergio hits a lot harder now.
No way Margo could take many flush shots from Sergio right now.
