On a scale of 1-10. 10 being very satisfied where the sport is going. 1 being very DISATISFIED where the sport is going.
I'm sick of the promoters saying they're happy where the sport is going but I'm letting my voice be heard and I'm saying it is not! Promoters have to think about the needs of the fans and not the money in our pockets pissing me off. Give us the fights we want
Hell naw foo'.
To many fighters allowed to call themselves "champions" these days.
The best no longer have to fight the best to prove their the best nor do most of them have any desire to fight other top guys in their division.
The skills and basic boxing fundamentals of your average "top ranked" fighters has greatly fallen off over the past 20+ years.
Half of the Heavyweight division's top 10 fighters have man-tits and luv handles and can't box worth a lick and none of them want to fight eachother.
And most of all, America's ELITE Heavyweight sized athletes no longer compete in boxing, which has left a huge talent void in the Heavyweight division.
Anybody who voted any higher than 1 is a :crackhead
This sport is going the way of the dodo.
MMA taking ova yo.
It does suck that rankings and titles can be bought. No one needs to fight a top contender to get a ranking or title shot anymore. Too many untested/unproven fighters becoming champions.
Satisfied with where it is? Not completely.
Where it's going? Who knows?
Personally, I see boxing in a pivotal point in its history. Not only are its top two stars on their way out, there are also a lot of things that are going to effect how the business is run, and who it's run by.
Bob Arum is on his way out, the UFC just signed a deal with fox and the Internet's reach and speed increase every day.
Satisfied with it in Europe 100% -- it's thriving.
Dissatisfied with it in the USA, where it seems to be turning into the WWE.
Europe and Canada are the new hot spots for boxing. I was in Montreal for Hopkins/Pascal I and the entire town was going nutz for this fight. After being unable to score some tickets, I settled for a sports bar. It took me 2hrs to find a place that wasnt standing room only.
Somewhat happy. There is a real influx of talent below heavyweight and cruiserweight right now, that will make for very interesting fights in the future. There are also more than a few fighters I could see taking the PPV mantle from Pacquiao and Mayweather. Arum and King are old, and won't be around to kill the sport much longer.
However, that happiness is relative, due to the terrible policies that have reduced the sport to a shell of its former self.
The way I see it, its more of a business than a sport. When you think about it, this is the only "sport" where the best dont actually have to face the best. They can just continue to pick and choose who they want to compete against. Its sad what boxing has become.
