toney is not brain damaged.the man has 70 pro fights, with alot of them against fighters in a weightclass his body wasent even made for.besides the fact he dominated the heavyweight division with speed and skills, his mentailty is still stronger then most super fighters today.most the people who doubt toney, never competed in the sport obviously. because as a fighter myself i kno a strong mentality is a important fundamental to have.he does have a lil wear and tear on his body but his mindset is still sharp which will continue to project the elite defence and speed he had as a middle weight... i predict a tko win for toney
James is looking faster than where he was at in the recent past, which isn't saying much, seeing as he had given up his speed advantage over heavyweights. His feet are still slow and methodical, but not as slow and methodical as they been for a few years now.
If Lebedev makes the mistake of languishing on the inside for long stretches, Toney wins lose; but if Denis makes the decision to stay on the outside, he's winning a decision. Toney's foot speed is just too slow to get to Lebedev (seriously... it showed even at 217 in his fight against Greer) consistently enough to win in a decision in Russia.
Depending how Lebedev fights will determine the outcome.
just because Toney looks thinner, doesnt mean he's in great shape. He was being lazy with his punches in that video. Didn't look like he was giving it 100
Iceman, what's your analysis of that vid? I thought Toney lacked intensity and seemed to be just going through the motions there.
Yeah, that wasnt a serious training session, just loosening up, working on a few small things in casual fashion...
BUMP on human interest alone
**yeah at Toney's age while cutting all this weight might be good, dunno if dropping to Cruiser will turn out to be a smart decision, as it's a pretty big drop in weight
Bad News Buddy is the Angel of Death.
"I won't let you take this kind of punishment" is the only thing McGirt ever says to his fighters anymore.
He tried to make a slick boxer out of Lamon Brewster for crying out loud.
Buddy McGirt has the greatest victory of the last decade, and that victory directly came from his advice..
Must have been an alien that invaded his body.
Only thing he is good at anymore is stopping fights to save his fighters from savage beatings.
With Bill Miller in his corner Toney wouldn't be able to pull this off.
Having Buddy McGirt in your corner basically guarantees that you are going to get your ass kicked all over the ring.
I expect a fight similar to Donaire-Narvaez as far as style goes. Toney will be on the defensive all night and will land some nice clean counters while Lebedev pushes the fight and throws 3 times as many punches.
When it comes to clean shots they will be about equal but with the fight being in Russia and Toney refusing to step up the pace he will suffer a near shutout on the cards.

I did too... without a doubt. Which sucks if it's real... I want a good fight, and if Toney has anything in the tank it can be..
you sure thats recent...doesnt James look to be about 175 in that video?? And Buddy looks much smaller than he did when I saw him out in Cali just last week...

toney is more shot than roy jones jr. the only difference is toney has a defensive foundation so he doesn't get knocked out like roy jones. he's even more stationary than jones jr so ledbedev is gonna have a field day beating him up. blimp impersonator sam peter easily beat him with basic boxing. toney couldn't move or counter because his skills and movement were completely gone. it wasn't just a bad fight because he looked like complete crap against oquendo as well. he even got rocked by some tomato can he fought last fight. this is a shame for toney but ledbedev now has a resume on par with the great joe calzaghe.
From what I've heard, Toney is in hock to the IRS, which accounts for his UFC embarrassment and this desperate attempt in Russia. You know Toney is desperate when he is trying to take off all of this weight in such a hurry. Not to mention travelling out of the country to fight for only the second time in his long career -- and Toney hates to fly.
Some of his diehards just don't want to see the truth. I understand that, but it doesn't change the facts.
Yeah, you got to look at the video objectively without the fan glasses on. I'm a fan of James but it doesn't take a expert to see that he's just bluffing it in that vid...
You want to see some serious padwork? Here's a vid:
I don't know if this is a warm up video (like Rockin stated) or Toney's just going easy, but he looks like sh1t here. He's lackadaisical and it just looks like he's going through the motions. I see zero intensity in that workout to be honest...
I like James Toney but this is an easy fight to predict. Lededev may not be as skilled as Toney but he's younger, hungrier, fitter, and is gonna out work the crafty veteran en route to an easy 12 round UD...
This is Chris Byrd-moving-down-to-Light-Heavyweight-esque. Delahoya-moving-back-down-to-147-esque. WITH A CHERRY ON TOP.
Toney isn't/wasn't in half decent shape as those guys. The weight alone will not be an issue. It's a combination of everything. His age, his shape or lack off, over the years, and just showing signs of washed-up-ed-ness, since the Oquendo fight. Has he been very active since then? The old saying, inactivity doesn't help an aging fighter.
That, and combine it with the fact that Lebedev isn't a pure bum or journeyman, and you're looking at a clear cut Decision win, with Lebedev outworking him, busting him up, but Toney still having that defense and avoiding the worst shots that Roy couldn't. If Toney proves me wrong and performs half decently, making it competitive, Lebedev's got the Hometown edge and will get the nod, like Toney did vs Oquendo.
There is also a saying ''Elephants never forget'' & from experience this ''ringrust'' experience is so so overplayed, as long as you've been training/sparring you'll be fine.
Who has Lebedev outworked? How do you expect him to outwork one of the best counter punchers in the business? He'd be damn foolish to not worry about shots coming back.
He just don't have the workrate, style or accuracy.
People keep mentioning these H/W's which is absurd, this is at cruiser!
Put some points up, i'll give you even odds!
Bit bored now of Toney is washed up blah blah like Lebedev is anything special, put some points up!
