How do you feel Boxing is doing right now and what are some things that can be done better. How is Boxing doing where you live and how do you feel it is doing globally? :boxing::boxing:
HBO is one of the main gears inside the machine of boxing and it hasn't done a particularly good job at matchmaking for most of the year.
Last year, November and December brought the best high profile fights of the year. This will be a repeat of last year, weak matchmaking and fights for most of the year, but a strong finish. There are few, but even the fights that figure to be blowouts are going to be exciting.
I am looking forward to see if Hershman can avoid the trend of non-competitive, showcase fights for 75% of the year and be able to keep the quality of the content at a high level for the entire year.
The biggest issue with boxing are it's "fans". The current crop of "fans" are fight fans...not boxing fans. The media get to tell these "fans" what is in and what is out, and that creates a warped sense of gauging talent in the sport of boxing. For example, true boxing fans watched the Donaire fight this weekend and took something away from it without any complaints. A fight fan came away disappointed because it didn't end in a knockout. That's why when I do choose to debate people on this site, I implore them to be fans of boxing and not boxers. If you do that, the sport will always hold a high level of interest to you.
He wasnt guaranteed $40mil for Ortiz. He was guaranteed $20-25mil with the possibility to make in upwards of $40mil with the ppv revenue.
Ok still that is too much for a fight of that caliber.
Boxing is full of sh!t right now. But I will be front and center at the Peterson vs Khan fight( in my city) and the Ward vs Froch fight(I still love boxing)
But boxing with all the dirt that goes on behind the scenes it just stinks right now. We all know boxing is a business but fighters should be paid according the competition they facing not based off the names fighting. example PBF vs Manny is worth them making 50+mill apiece. No way in the fvcking world should PBF be gauranteed 40mill to fight Ortiz. Makes no sense at all

Thanks dude, you inspired a pretty cool to read assesment.
"Boxing needs to speedup and face up. The amateur Street fighting Sport is doing more which much much less by having more fights happening and more of the top brawlers are facing each other. Of course not for Pro money, but still keeping most of the attention of the "Other sports" average fan watching. Frequent Big fights will maybe drop a little on demand, but One Big fight a month would make IMO more money. Demand would have to challenge to keep up with the best fights. Promoters are bloodsuckers and without them I think the sport and those practice the sport will have the benefit of safety obtions after all they should make their own money if they can. While the Big shots attempt to create more demand for more money, who feeds the hard core Boxing fan? Who waits some times in vain to watch the fights WE want to see.
Too much cats eating out of the same can.
Allow the boxers to negotiate before getting to money negotiations, even that I defer with the current drug screening systems. It should be taken seriously and left to the private sector options to be agreed by the boxers and it has to be one to stay current new technology. The fights should be screened privately by a neutral outsource to assure fairness. Safety should increase to create a balance for the boxers. This is a hardcore Sport. Bottom line is that in Boxing while on steroid power can and will bring serious injuries and death. The Screening systems need to be updated for the new products out there. When such of money is in play, I think boxers should be DNA screed. The money is there and it will insure the lives of boxers.
But deep inside, everybody knows that Boxing is the ultimate Mano a Mano sport. Boxers are ones absorbing the liability and the consequences."

its not great at the moment. sky tv dont seem to be getting any of the fights anymore. the best fighters dont seem willing to fight each other and we are not getting the fights that we want. mayweather wont fight pacquiao, bradley wont fight khan, klitschko wont fight klitschko, etc etc.
and on top of that you have got pathetic titles these days, diamond champ this and super regular bum that. it needs sorting.
if fans refused to pay for fights that we dont want, then we might get fights that we do want.
Boxing. Is hurting. Since Pavlik everybody has sick days ,days before fights .Fighers writing checks that they ask can't cash .It's all about milking the money ,The best is not showing & proving that

More championship fights with quality fighters on CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and Versus on Saturday and SUnday afternoon, especially after football season.
Only REAL ppv fights on PPV. Mayweather/Manny ppv. If it happens maywether.cotto. other than that NO other fight on PPV until both fighters are worthy. Mayweather/Martinez, Manny/Bradley, Martinez Cotto, all on the channels above.
champions should fight the best it's 2 many excuses and protection for the champions...cotto said it's no money in fighting the 3rd pound 4 pound in martinez..chavez is being protected...saul alvarez is being protected...top rank is not fighting the best they fightin garbage competition..pac-man want to fight martinez at 147 knowing he cant make that..but he know they can meet at 154....*****s is suckers...thats why i loved paul williams
Boxing had the match ups just bad fights this year. A lot of boxers got the names of the sport in the ring and just got a paycheck. Just like this past weekend. I'm waiting on kirkland and angulo!!!
As much as posters here hate Dana white, boxing as a whole needs to follow his motto. If boxing were run the way UFC is currently being run, it would get rid of all the B.S that's happening. No more picking and choosing who u want to fight. No more ducking. No more greedy promoters preventing fights from happening. No more crooked ABC organizations. Etc.. 1 champ per weight class, and each division should be set up like a tournament where all the top guys fight eachother with an elimination process until there's 1 man standing at the top.
They also need to get rid of guaranteed purses. What incentive does a fighter have to fight his heart out if he knows win or lose, he will be receiving millions anyway?
Boxing has cancer and their names are:
Bob Arum
Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Amen to the above.
But with that out of the way, somewhere along the lines boxing fans are the problem. Sanctioning bodies, promoters & the fighters themselves only do what the fan lets them.
Fans have become dependent on the term pfp, which is mythical with no real bearing on the sport. Allowing belts & titles to become a joke. Allowing fighters like Canelo to earn a major title never having fought on the championship level.
Then the fans sit there & discredit all top fighters not named Floyd or Manny should they struggle on a given night. Although it's Floyd who will have a fight cost 65 bucks & end it cheaply & Pacman who avoids his nemisis until that man is clearly past it, being hurt by lesser fighters & is fighting 2 weight classes out of his element & the fans bend over & take that $hit dry with no lube & love every second of it.
Boxing would have done better this year if Pacman & Floyd were forced to fight Martinez, Bradley Khan, & so on. But at the very least there is some good, with Ward fighting Froch & espn giving exciting fights for free & showtimes shobox on fridays always giving good quality fights that for whatever reasons get overlooked in favor of big name mismatches on ppv or hbo.
Kind of a down period but that is the nature of the sport really it ebbs and flows, just how it goes sometime.
Not much can be done about it, other than hope it picks up soon.
Boxing has problems, that are large scale and ruining any chance the sport has of rebounding, but I agree with this as to why so many big fights have disappointed this year. Ultimately it just happens, stuff like Mayweather-Ortiz, Bradley-Alexander, Dawson-Hopkins, etc.
For once it's not the fights being made that is the problem. Those fights just aren't delivering. It happens.
