It's a good question. He's exciting to watch, charming personality, adaptable, great fighter.
I guess what goes against him are his lack of english, superstar opposition, 35 and prob won't around for too long, and has a large continginte of haters who refuse to acknlowge how good he is for reasons I don't understand.
lou dibella doesnt help the situation
he means well, he just doesnt have the capital to invest in sergio like TR and GBP
he's also very old for a boxer who is relatively new to the scene
Dibella should do a copromotion with GBP and put Martinez, Maidana and Matthysse on the same card. Make that sh!t happen in Florida where there are a lot of argentine americans.
That's a pretty darn good idea right there.:fing02:
Because he isn't American, Puerto Rican, or Mexican. He's also in a dead division with no possible megafights. He needs to fight a star before he can become one.
This is the simple truth right here. That's why he is trying to get a fight with Pac or Mayweather or Cotto. All I can say is look at the records of the guys he has fought compared to anyone around him and how he has performed against those guys.
The guy is kind of humble too so he doesn't get noticed. If he were to call others chumps and "muthafukkas" and what not, he'd be far more popular.
plenty of reasons. Hes a man without a country, He was mostly fighting in obscure 8 round fights in Spain well into his 30's. He didn't put on a pair of gloves till he was 19. His first shot vs. a contender he was he outclassed and KO'ed by Margarito. His promoter today wants to act like he should be a superstar cause he's had 2-3 good years, when the household names in boxing today, have been in significant fights for near a decade or longer. He can't get anybody with a name to fight him cause they demand star money, without the star name.
Yeah, I think Maidana has more Argentinian fans than he does.

Because most casual fans don't know him. He's my favorite boxer, how can anybody lot like his style. He's a can throw lighting quick, power punches like Pacquiao and he can slip punches(not as good but similar in ocassions) like Nicolino Locche used to do.
To me he's the exciting fighter in boxing today.
Because if it was up to him he'd fight all the best fighters in a row
But only if they are small welters that he is huge standing next to. Let's keep pretending that there are not plenty of "best fighters" 8lbs north of him.
Yeah...:fing02:

nor is manny
Because if it was up to him he'd fight all the best fighters in a row all he does is wanna fight the best but they don't want none of him so honestly I think it's the fighters who duck him that are keeping him away from super star status
