In Linares' case before the 11th and Khan before the 10th round it was schooltime baby. Imagine if the ref also stopped the Khan fight in favor of Maidana. Iwoudnt consider that a win snice he was still good for the fight. Same thing with Linares...
Linares seems to me was still in the fight, he never tasted the canvass and he was ahead on points. I was surprised the ref stooped the fight but maybe he saw something that I did not. Anyway, Linares got hit a lot in the 11th and was fading, bloodied and looked tired but I still felt it was stopped too soon for I felt Linares still has it. Maybe the ref just doesn't want him to take more punishment and his face was bath with blood.
Linares wasnt badly hurt not even staggering like Khan was. Most of them punches by Demarco in the end were blocked.
^^^^agree. I posted something similar to this earlier - it was the blood that made the difference imo. Although I understand it's a judgment call in the heat of the moment. I'm not overly upset with the referee, looking forward to a rematch. instead of rewriting....
Other than the 2 right/left combinations moments before the stoppage, DeMarco threw pity pat punches towards the end (and most were blocked), and he looked like he had just exhausted the steam from his punches (see 06:04.) The only reason this fight was stopped was because Linares’ face was bloody. Just ask yourself, would the fight have been stopped had Linares only had a swollen face? No it wouldn’t have, it would look more like Khan vs Maidana Round 10; a high anxiety moment that would’ve passed as the round drew to its close (and not as dramatic). Linares would’ve cleared his head before the start of the 12th, came out and peppered the jab to a Unanimous Decision victory.
And I’ve heard others suggest Linares faded - he faded some, but not as badly as made out to be. Linares was in absolute great shape in my opinion, as much as he moved, dodged and threw, his conditioning was very impressive. Need I mention how valiant he fought after losing so much blood from the 6th round on (you lose blood, you lose stamina). His conditioning was very good. He may have been hit with 2 good 1-2s in the 11th that really snapped his head, but that’s more a defensive lapse, than a fault of conditioning; his legs never dipped in the fight either. He was in control of the fight, until the moments he got too brave for his own good (see round 10, see the end of round 10 when DeMarco throws his arms up in desperation for a slugfest, see the difference in round 11). His instructions were to throw combinations and move out. He threw combinations and stayed in, leaving himself susceptible to punches, while struggling to see. Clearly, I believe the stoppage was premature, but I do understand it.
Since he was still good for the fight?
What does that mean?
