First he fights Ortiz to test the water aginst a bigger opponent, and a southpaw.
Next he says he want the biggest fights.
Martinez says on radio negotiations are advanced.
Dibella is sucking up to Floyd.
Team Martinez and Dibella says they will fight Pirog for 5million. I believe that is the garantee Sergio will get if he fights Floyd. Thats why they came up with that number. Why fight Pirog for less?
Martinez pretty much get a garantee of 1-1.5mill per fight, fighting whoever. Hence this is why i think he'll get a bigger garantee than Ortiz did. Ortiz never got close to 1 mill before the Floyd fight.
Im not a huge fan of Floyd but always admired his skills, and do consider him an ATG, possibly even GOAT. Now if he does fight Sergio which im a much Bigger fan of, i cant help but to root for Floyd in that fight, cause im just admiring him so much for even taking the fight. Win or lose.
Up most respect too Floyd if he took this fight. The only problem for me is would Martinez have to kill himself and fight at 147 or would Floyd really surprise us all and fight at 154, very unlikely. It would be under Floyds rules and at 147 i think Martinez would be dead, aka Hoya vs Pac.
I'm not entirely sure if either guy can beat Sergio. I think Floyd could give Sergio a good fight but I think he would lose a decision. Pacquiao would have little chance against the bigger, just as fast, southpaw counter puncher that Sergio is. I see Floyd possibly losing a decision and Manny getting KO'd if they ever choose to fight Sergio.
First off I think Sergio Martinez is a fabulous fighter...beating Paul Willaims & Kelly Pavlik is no easy feat. Everytime you step in that ring, you risk your life. Victories at the championship level are never easy. That being said, I always believed and have said openly that Floyd can beat Martinez. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate but Martinez is easier for Floyd than Manny. I am willing to put my money where my mouth is. Floyd may even stop Martinez. Floyd should jump on him right now, before he gets knocked off. That's really all I have to say. Floyd beats Martinez up, I have always seen the HOLES in Martinez's game. He's a great fighter but the wrong kind of guy for Floyd. Styles, styles, styles.
I don't think Floyd would face Martinez at 160, but its reasonable to have Martinez shrink down to 155. The big problem for Floyd's fans would be they talked so much **** about Manny and his catchweight fights, they would have to make an excuse. No excuses needed, if Martinez signs the contract, I think 155 would be fair and if Floyd wins, as I think he would, he would NOT discredited by me.

I watched an interview with floyd n he said I won world titles at the correct weights not catchweights, so I think if they fight it will b 154 or 160.
yeah...WORLD TITLES...the Sergio fight is not about a belt/title...so i wouldnt be suprided if its a 150 catchweight :boxing:
Well.. he better do that... cuz then he'd be a hypocrite
I was thinking the same thing. If he goes up to 160 and fights the Champ I will be impressed. In fact, that would almost be as big a deal as when RJJ won the Heavyweight Title.
I will believe it when i see it.

i can think of circumstances. like if floyd made sergio come down to 150.
Yeah, yeah, I stand corrected. If Floyd decides that Martinez at 154 is too much weight & needs him lower, that probably takes everything he could have gained & turns it to trash.
apparently you haven't actually seen them next to each other.
soon as you do that, let me know.
also, after that, check their reach.
also, coming from "the lower divisions" doesn't make them the same size. pac fought for over 9 years in divisions than floyd ever fought in as a pro.
also, you're a dumb nuthugger incapable of assessing the situation with an objective eye.
Let see, Margarito is 5'11, Martinez is 5'10..how come Pac can fight Margo but not Martinez....
Floyd is 5'8 with a reach of 72...Marg has a reach of 73 so why do we want Pac to fight Floyd and have no problem with him fight Margo (who was 150 when they fought) but all of a sudden he's too small for Martinez (who stated that he would come down to 150)....oh by the way, having a longer reach doesn't win you fights...Pac has beaten 5 fighters in a row who had longer reaches than him.
Floyd started his amateur career at 106 lbs so he grew just like Pac did from that weigh, you are making excuses by saying he too small...Floyd is small too.
Pac need Sergio more than Floyd does.
You sir, are a b_itch!!!
What? Floyd is ONE INCH TALLER THAN PAC...if PAC so tiny than why did he fight Margarito?
Cut the s_hit, Floyd can move up but not Pac...double f_ucking standard.

Floyd naturally bigger than him and Sergio would seriously Pacquaio out
Naturally bigger...Floyd started his career at the lower weight classes just like Pac...but by naturally bigger you mean Floyd didn't use PED to get to wear he is now than yes I agree with you.
Pac needs Sergio more than Floyd does.

how you figure?
pac is TINY for sergio. floyd can carry 154ish no prob.

Pac is FOTD so please give him a break. He fought Cotto and Margarito for Floyd already, so now you want Pac to soften Sergio up for Floyd as well?
just sign the contract already and stop teasing the public with this will they or wont they nonsense!
FOTD? break that down, not sure what that acronym means. Floyd beat De La Hoya and Hatton first...What the f_uck are you talking about softening up opponents. When the last time you saw Pac fight a young prime fighter with power?
Pac needs to fight Sergio more than Floyd does.
Oh absolutely, Floyd fighting Martinez doesn't kill Floyd-Pac, but it sure distances them at welterweight & above, big edge Floyd. Pacman fighting Khan will never, under any circumstance top Floyd fighting Martinez, IMO.

Khan said he wont fight pac anyway.
Too bad Bradley refused the khan fight. If he had beaten khan then fought manny that wouldve been huge and IMO equal to floyd sergio. Beating CAsamayor after ducking khan and fighting manny looks so suspect.
if nothing else changes, i can agree, but if they fight it doesn't mean floyd/pac is dead.
pac has nothing else right now that can rival that fight not named mayweeather unless khan comes up somehow and whips everyone else at ww and manny fights him. but pac sergio is a physical mismatch.

If it does happen, it's the most sellable fight that is not Floyd-Pacman. I would buy that ppv,(the last ppv I actually bought was Pacman-Cotto). Was still a big Pacfan back then, (although I went for Cotto).
But Floyd Martinez at 154 or above solidifies Floyd's career as the better fighter between him & Pacman, win or lose.

nawww man, ortiz aint impressive as wasnt mosley for pac, ortiz just two fights ago drew to peterson and before that lost to maidana
boxing is a business now, before it was about pride. both guys pac and may have been cherry picking for years and it will carry on till they go
IFC mosley fought 24 rounds before the manny fight vs floyd and mora. he won 7 of those rounds. On yahoo and other sites that poll writers to pick p4p, floyd got a number of votes.
Those voters felt floyd beating ortiz was more impressive than manny beating shane. At this point they are correct. Shane is clearly an all time better fighter but when SHane and MAnny fought, SHane was not a champion nor a mandatory opponent.
