Gatti was one of the most exciting and bravest, but was never considered the best fighter. FLoyd knew that, but just thought he might look good against Gatti, and thats why he took it.
If he took the Sergio or Pac fight as easily as he took the Gatti fight wouldnt life be easier?
yeah ..one of them fights i was rootin for floyd tbh....lol ... somebody just said in the other thread that gatti was the # 1 at 140 which was just not possible considerin kostay was the lineal and hatton fought him 3 weeks before the floyd vs gatti fight...so even on paper, gatti could'nt have been #1...
for those who say gatti was # 1 140 lber when floyd fought him, how the hell is that possible when the tsyzu vs hatton fight happened before the floyd vs gatti fight....meaning gatti could'nt have been # 1 ...
Damn, who said that...I think we who follow boxing for years knew that Floyd was going to win. Any fighter can look great against the right opponet (Gatti was a warrior, great to watch) . Floyd has done that through out most of his career. I read negotiations are going good for him to fight S.Martinez at 154, a weak Martinez doesn't have a chance, at 154 both Pac and Floyd beat Martinez.
"Stop boxing" doesn't mean to hold your opponents head down and then punch him in the head as hes trying to bring his head back up. It also doesn't mean to sucker punch your opponent when the opponent is adhering to the instructions by the ref.
So, as it stands, Floyd holds and hits when the ref says to stop boxing, uses his elbows as weapons, cheats his opponent on the scales and baits opponents in for a show of sportsmanship, and then punches them.
What is Floyd crying about a fair fight for?
Something I found that was funny is that, after the fight and in several post fight interviews Floyd gave to the press, he kept stating that "Nobody ever said boxing was a clean sport" and "Boxing is a dirty sport".
Kindof hypocritcal IMO, given the extent he's gone to in expressing his "All I'm asking for is a clean fight" with Pacquiao. :lol1:
You have a point bro,Ref's don't really like to get in there and be physical but sometimes it calls for it..I think the Gatti one called for it,but Ortiz was just not there mentally or something cause he should have been ready to fight..Cortez said let's go..
The thing that beyond irritates me is that, even though Joe said "Let's go" - he wasn't even paying attention ffs. He was too worried about whether the clock had started back up or not (which by the way.... it wasn't - atleast it wasn't on the T.V)
If you go back and watch from a certain angle when Ortiz got hit with the left hook and was falling back, it appears like Joe then actually looked around Victor because he was obstructing his view while he was talking to the timekeeper. He didn't have a friggen clue after the first punch that Ortiz had even been hit, but he's told them "let's go" and not paying attention??? It's beyond bizarre, but it's sooo Joe Cortez. They need to have a saying for the refs before each fight now too... "Pay attention at all times". Protect yourself at all times is a phrase they use as a scapegoat, when sh!t goes horribly wrong and they don't want to take the blame. :lol1: :lol1:
I had to laugh out loud when I watched a video of him explaining himself after the fight, and he was saying "You know I tell these guys at my seminars all the time, you gotta always be on your toes and paying attention to everything around you cause things happen all the time - just like with the fan man". OMG, what a joke this guy is. :nonono:
Joe Cortez could fukk up a fixed fight.... that's how bad this guy sucks sometimes.
/end rant.

boxing is a contact sport.....
I've never condemned Floyd for being opportunistic, it's how one should be. Don't see why that needs to be substituted with smart.
not similar, but mayweather also attempted to whack corrales as corrales was trying to adjust his trunks. Just saying...mayweather has always been smart.
boxing is a contact sport.....
I remember this. This is exactly why I was surprised that Ortiz kept trying to hug and apologize to Floyd Mayweather time and time again.
If Team Ortiz had been watching tape on Mayweather for 3 months, they should have known what type of fighter he was and warned Ortiz never to put his hands down or take his eye off Mayweather in a fight. They should have known better.
Dont floyd listen when the ref says stop boxing?
But this performance is why Floyd dont want to fight Pac. He hits boxers and they dont automatically drop.
THis is supposed to be one of Floyds masterclass performances. But Pac stopping Morales in 3 trumps this performance and not to mention all his other fights.
The ref 's prefight instructions are also "obey my commands at alll times". And i don't think that "let's go" which may or mayy not have been heard by the boxer, is the same as the correct phrase,"box on".
So let's concentrate on the time where Ortiz doesn't comply with the instruction "let's go" and forget the other 20x in the during the fight when he does? :lame: Ortiz knew exactly what he was instructed to do, he was too worried about apologizing and paid for it plain and simple. It wasn't Cortez's fault, it wasn't FMJ fault, it was 100% Victor Ortiz's fault!
Floyd was too small and not good enough to fight Gatti....
The fight should have never happened because Floyd sucked and had never fought real fighters before, nor was he ever a real champion, he was a coward, sucked, was old and past it and he should have never put gloves on... ever, because of how bad he sucks. He doesnt even know how to throw a punch and his defense is shyt.
Shame on Gatti for cherry picking such a bum who has never been able to box and sucks. Floyd is a coward for allowing Gatti to cherry pick him too. Not to mention Floyd is a coward for allowing Bob Arum to steal his money.
Floyd is an atg bum who has never even fought a real fight before... at the end of the day Floyd is fake and not even a real person or fighter.... :trink26:
The one vs. Gatti is kind of a gray area. Referees always say, "Listen to my instructions," and the referee clearly said "Stop boxing," but didn't enforce his instruction physically. While I don't agree with his punches vs. Ortiz, they weren't illegal, the KD vs. Gatti may have been but the incompetent referee played his role too.
You have a point bro,Ref's don't really like to get in there and be physical but sometimes it calls for it..I think the Gatti one called for it,but Ortiz was just not there mentally or something cause he should have been ready to fight..Cortez said let's go..
It's a fight gentlemen,it's a fighters job to fight and a ref's job to up hold the rules...If the ref did not stop the action then that means the action is still on,protect ya self...
Did the ref say ''stop boxing''?
Sounded like he said stop boxing
The ref clearly said stop punching, then watched Floyd continue punching. The ref should have restarted them after saying 'stop punching'
You're job as a boxer is to fight unless the ref stops you, and protect yourself at all times. The ref ****ed up, he said stop, but he didn't come in and break them up.
In the Ortiz fight the ref said "let's go" and that exactly what Mayweather did.
The ref 's prefight instructions are also "obey my commands at alll times". And i don't think that "let's go" which may or mayy not have been heard by the boxer, is the same as the correct phrase,"box on".
Bayless is the **** man... love that dude. I still think Bayless would have handled the situation a lot better than Cortez did though... asserted himself when it was really needed.
lol really?!
