The closest have been Pacquiao-Cotto and Mayweather-Hatton. But Pacquiao-Cotto was still pretty one-sided despite being entertaining, with Cotto looking mentally beaten and in survival mode from the 6th round on. Mayweather-Hatton had its moments, a great electric atmosphere, but much of it was ugly. Hatton was doing little of the landing and eating most of the clean shots.
The rest:
Mayweather-De La Hoya: not much action
Pacquiao-De La Hoya: one sided massacre
Pacquiao-Hatton: short massacre
Calzaghe-Jones: One sided after the first couple rounds
Mayweather-Marquez: one sided
Pacquiao-Margarito: horrific beatdown, Margarito landed some good shots but calling the fight "competitive" is a real stretch.
Mayweather-Mosley: Mosley won about 1 minute of the fight
Mayweaher-Ortiz: disappointing ending, wasn't all that competitive anyway
despite the attempts of Jim Lampley to convince us otherwise.
Cotto-Margarito might be the first fight to be competitive and have good action.
What does this topic even mean? 24/7 doesn't produce fights, they hype fights, and they do a good job of it. I love ALL 24/7's, except the hockey one.
If the fight doesn't live up to expectations it isn't 24/7's fault.
this is very true ...
why you left out pacquiao-cotto and paquiao-marquez, both competitive fights?!?
Margarito-Cotto also promises competitivenes as seen during their first fight ...

The biggest events rarely live up to the hype unfortunately. Although, some of those fights weren't even good in theory. Just names that could be sold.
Well 24/7 sold you because you expected the hype ,,,
Thats what the fights are about , if you want competitive fights you will find lots of them in the 6 to 10 round bracket , with these big fights its as much about the emotion and build up as the battle , even when the really big fights turn out a lack luster event the build up etc is a real buzz ,for me if I get a great fight terrific , if not I dont mind anyway , the guys in these superfights are top shelf technicians in their own right and their own style , watching them work is worth it .
Only ones I really expected to be good and competitive were Pacquiao vs. Cotto and Hatton (my god was I off here).
It would be nice though to get a good, competitive fight on a big scale. Especially since this type of show tends to attract casual fans.
Yea Pac-Cotto was the closest, but that was only competitive for the first 6 rounds after that it was a total wipeout.
Cotto-Margs 2 will be competitive and entertaining no doubt. And naturally, there will only be two episodes for that fight.
Is the 2 episodes confirmed? Damn, I would have liked more. Anyhow, considering that they only did a countdown on Cotto-Marg 1, this is step up somewhat. :puppy_dog

That really is pretty sad that those are clearly the closest fights and those weren't close fights at all.
A lot of hype and not a lot of substance, hopefully it produces a good fight soon or people will really tune it out that is if they haven't already.
Even if Cotto-Margarito is competitive and most likely action packed that is not a really meaningful fight currently, I can understand the meaning to Cotto and wanting to avenge that beat down and certain fan groups but really it has no meaning to me and I am about as hardcore as they come.
It has been a really shitty period for big time fights, hopefully that trend ends soon.
