Some say that 150 is ok. Some say that it should be at 160. Others say that it should be at 155 or 156 for the MW title. Most say that the perfect weight is 154. What would you feel though if it was at 152?
To me, I would be perfectly fine with it. Sergio has fought at WW for a good amount of time, then moved to 154 and stayed for a very long time. He didnt move up due to weight problems, he moved up to get the bigger fights. He's had like 5 fights at MW and has weighed in at 157 or 158 for every single fight. Alot of MW's are like 170+ in the ring but Sergio is always like 165, just like Ortiz and other big WW's.
If he's weighing in at 157-158 then there is no way that youre going to convince me that he cant get down to 154 again like some on here try to say. I think he can comfortably go down to 152. Floyd would be going up 5 pounds from 47 to 52 and Sergio would be coming down about 5 or 6 pounds.
Sergio would still be strong there. Floyd is small, despite what some try to say. If he didnt show his weight against Ortiz then alot of people wouldve still sworn that he was over 160 like they did for his last 2 fights. Nacho had every reason to boost up Floyd's weight after JMM lost every round & Steward who hates Floyd both said they felt that Floyd was about 152 against JMM. He wasnt no bigger then that and he probably was smaller.
Now you could easily argue that Floyd went to 154 for Oscar so he should do it again for Sergio but thats people who just dont accept reality. Oscar was the man and called the shots. Floyd wouldve fought him at 168 if needed but now Floyd is in charge. You get that leverage and youre going to use it. Dont get me wrong, I would rather the fight be at 154 or higher but I wont complain if its lower, espically if its just by those 2 pounds because I think Sergio can make it comfortably. I hear guys say all the time they cant do something but then it changes.
When Shane went to 154, he said he was too big for WW, cant make it anymore, and would never fight there again. Then years later he came back and stayed there while looking strong. Sergio can get down the same way. I also still say that theyre waiting for the Hopkins fight to end before they announce it. GBP just doesnt want this news to overshadow that fight. It could hurt sales and it would also upset Hopkins which isnt hard to do
I have no issue with the fight at 152 but you gotta love the irony.
Floyd and his fans bash Manny, but it will be comical that Floyd's best win (if he pulls it off which I highly doubt) will be at a catchweight....lol
So after several years of flaming....Floyd's best win would be at a catchweight against a guy who was brought down almost two divisions.
No, I don't like the prospect of Martinez cutting 8 lbs, it would raise too many question marks. And I don't like this phenomena of fighters trying to weaken their opponent in negotiations, period; if you don't feel capable of beating a junior middleweight at 154 lbs, then don't fight them. If you don't think you can win a middleweight title within the actual middleweight parameters, then don't challenge for it.
Just like how Pac and Floyd shouldn't fight at a weight-class that they don't belong in, same with Martinez.
So all this nuts gathering is ridiculous. You can't blame anyone for not fighting at a weight they aren't comfortable in.
Look, I understand that dude is chasing some money, but 8 pounds is not very far to go for him to have a bunch of good fights. Both Floyd and Manny have gone up further in pursuit of money and prestige.
If he has a nice run at SMW and then as the penultimate bout fights Bute? Ya gotta' admit Martinez/Bute in Montreal would be some big dough. After that he can try his luck with Andre Ward. Or maybe he's not that great in a p4p sense? It's only 8 pounds...
I hold Floyd to a higher standard than I do his counterpart. Floyd should not need a catchweight favoring him to fight Martinez. He has the skill & he's grown some mass since he fought DLH at full weight (Oscar). This fight at a full 154 further seperates him from his counterpart as far as greatness goes, win or lose. A catchweight IMO is only acceptible if he chooses to persue the middleweight ring title.
to be honest i'd prefer that the MW championship be contested at 160 lbs
floyd can walk into the ring however heavy he wants
my guess is that he wont go for that
he knows first hand what its like fighting a guy who is two weigt classes below you. he probably had 15 lbs on marquez on fight night.
if they are really fighting for the MW championship of the world they have to contract the fight for at least 154.1 lbs i believe.
if it's lower they will technically be considered jr MW
obviously, any rule in boxing can essentially be changed based on money (who brings it and leverages with it)
No,no catchweight needed,he fought Oscar at 154 over 4 years ago,he's bigger now and theres no excuse
I agree 100%. I wish this fight could happen, it would be great for the boxing fans.
Mayweather won't ask for a Catchweight cause he knows no one would give him credit for a win .not that he would win by the way.
I don't understand why people think he won't ask for a catch-weight...He has before, why wouldn't he ask again?
If he feels catch-weight will give him a better chance to win then of course he would ask it or just won't do it.
I would be most displeased if Floyd fights Martinez at a catch-weight. It's unnecessary given his victory at 154 over De La Hoya and would completely taint the fight and any potential victory.
Although Floyd isn't the biggest of WW's, He should be able to show up on fight night at 152 with the fight scheduled at 154.
shiiiiit
jro up in hurrrrr
he's about to school hos
make b1tchez cry
trolls gon be wishing they would die
I'm telling you sluts...get your youtubeanomics P.H.D so Jro doesn't rape ya'll so bad.
:lol1:,
You can be really stupid, you know that?
Considering Martinez's age and the fact he's been a middle for a while, 154 about the lowest weight I could support this fight. I kinda don't want the catchweight to be to high, cause if Floyd won at 157, you just might have people suspicous if that the fight was fixed.
Umm exact same question we all asked of Manny when he fought Cotto. He had already fought DLH at the WW limit so why ask for a catchweight?
Floyd should fight Martinez at 154.
i blame roach for that, i really do.... it was sh1t move no doubt...
i dont mind at all but floyd has fought at full 154 before , so why the hell cant he fight sergio at 54?....

Floyd should fight Martinez at 154.
Ohhh snap, Floyd going to be jealous you talking **** about Ellerbe
Ellerbe is a fag even Sr said something about it...Wouldn't be surprise if Floyd is gay as well. Hell too bad Cup thread got deleted because he made great points and observation on Floyd being gay. Which I agreed with. But, your point is?
Nothing right? Because, that was totally irrelevant...Or was that your way of defending your man?
Wrong, a bitch move is being on your knees for another man. A bitch move is defending every single thing your man does.

Wrong a ***** move is agreeing to a catchweight and not honoring it
