Just checked 5dimes, and was surprised to see Holt as such a heavy favorite. I'm surprised GoldenBoy is throwing Garcia in with a guy the bookies heavily favor over him..
Welterweight 12 rounds - Staples Center, Los Angeles, California - HBO PPV
Sat 10/15 501 Danny Garcia +165
9:30PM 502 Kendall Holt -215
Holt is very crafty, with pop and Garcia has shown himself to be very green at times. This a really interesting matchup. Poll to follow, please discuss! :boxing::boxing:
I can't believe nobody's talking about Buddy being Holt's trainer..Holt will need something in the tank so his punch out-put is steady,he won't have that with Buddy..I would have picked him but that's to much of a wild card imo,Garcia by UD..Anyone wanna make a wager PM me...
What does Garcia generally average in terms of punch output per round? Does his workrate slip a lot toward the end of fights? He's going to need to win this on hustle. I'm sure his workrate will be impacted if Holt can counter effectively. But out of curiosity, what does he avg per round?
good point - you always gotta look at the dynamics outside of the ring when really trying to predict the outcome of pick 'em fights. . . Im also guessing Garcia will be the "fan favorite" since the fight is in LA where a lot of Mexican-Americans will come out and cheer. . .
Garcia isn't starting to look so bad +165
Glad you agree with my overthinking and guesswork! The real issue is will a crafty more experienced Holt find a way to walk Garcia into his undeniable KO power... He did it was Bradley a couple times, and Bradley is probably more skilled than Garcia.
However I doubt Garcia will be as foolhardy as Bradley... If Garcia gets hit with the artillery Bradley got hit with, I'd say Holt knocks him out. Slight slight edge to Garcia in this one b/c of youth, workrate and intangibles.
Probably a stay away fight in terms of betting, but great value for rolling the dice..

I think Garcia is a little green for a guy like Holt, but with how Holt fights it is possible it works out for Garcia. Holt is very easy to out hustle even against Diaz he was not really doing a lot of work. Still there is a lot of danger in that because Holt throws some of the best counters around, so if he isn't careful he will find himself looking up at the lights.
Now if Garcia can get knocked down and keep coming like Bradley he will be fine but if he gets hurt and gets gun shy the fight will be all Holt.
It will be interesting to see how that plays out Garcia should control most of the moments but really the key moments are likely to come from Holt.
Tough to call, but I say the veteran pulls it out with something nasty.
Fight of the night for sure.
I forgot DeMarco and Linares are getting it on too.
Golden Boy really likes to gamble with their prospects. I like that about them. We don't have to wait 2/3 years to figure out how a guy steps up.
Right, I remember Garcia looking very green in the fights I saw of his. But I missed the Cambell and Aranoutis fights. I find this to be for the most part a true pick em fight, with Holt's power being the variable that confuses gamblers..

I will give you a tip, he didnt do that well against Theopane. Theopane is a good boxer. Decent. And if he had power there was some shots that would have knocked Danny out.
Danny is young and out to prove a point, so I dont think he is going to start the match running. I think thats when Kendall can catch him, Julio Diaz style.
I dont like Holts activity. Thats the only bad thing about him.

odds really aren't that huge. . . but still, I would think odds would be more like
+110 Garcia -125 Holt. . . More like a true pick 'em fight, which is what this is - it's rare to have these kinds of fights. . . I'm going to roll with Holt to edge out a decision based on clean, effective punching. . .
I think the judges are going to favor the undefeated golden boy prospect in this one. It's a split card with Shaw, but GBP is where the money's at. Close rounds will go to the guy with the "0" and the promoter with the deeper pockets.
I think Holt will need to knock Garcia down several times or out to win the fight.(All of which could very well happen)
I was referring to basing my bet off my lack of info on Garcia by looking at his boxrec and my faint memory of his success in past undercards. My wording was confusing.

Who are you talking about? Kendall? I seen Kendall fight many times and based off that, thats my prediction.
As for your Boxrec method, let me know how that turns out.

Don't you think Garcia is going to be very aware of Holt's power and make a point to avoid it? If Holt doesn't KO him, I'll be surprised to see him decision him. It really is tough betting a fight off of reading a Boxrec and the faint memory of a couple undercard fights you saw a guy in..

Holt all day. You were right, I dont know why you would switch sides.
Swift barely beat Theopane.
Holt by KO. Swift isnt ready.

haha I here you man but I saw his fight on the undercard when Hopkins beat that dude in philly before the 2nd roy jones fight, and saw him against Nate Campbell he made both opponents look pretty ineffective. I like Holt definitely can't count him out, but I think i'm definitely putting money on garcia
I didn't realize he decisioned Cambell and knocked out Aranoutis since I last saw him fight.. I try to make it a rule not to bet on fights unless I'm confident on what both fighters will do, but like you said. This is looking more and more like a Garcia victory.. With the equalizer of Holt's power being the only uncertain variable.
Who do you think is more likely to be in the Judges pockets if the fight is close? I'm thinking Garcia.. Alright Garcia, I don't know what's up with the betting odds. But you have my support.
Garcia should get his chin tested here which makes it interesting but Garcia SHOULD win a comfortable decision but can rule out the KO from Holt. Garcia just needs to survive the early rounds which I think he def will.
It's fights like this where the odds surprise me and I get trigger happy that I tend to lose bets with. The reality is I don't know enough about Garcia to have very strong convictions on this fight. I mean no one really does on this level. This card really isn't that bad at all.
