Not a myth at all, rotation generates power, no doubt about that. Sure, you could knock down people with a straight punch, but rotation will generate even more power. Have you seen baseball pitchers throw the ball? They use all the rotation they can to generate power, from their legs, hips, arms and finishing with their wrists. So yeah, you can generate good power without rotation if you're strong enough, but rotation will generally give more power to punches.
The thing is. You can't rotate very much into a jab. It only rotates so far before your stupidly out of position and/or off balance.
The straight can rotate pretty far. The jab cannot. Which is why I don't see how this kid can and/or should rotate into his jab more. :dunno:
Okay.. Well I call my friend and he doesn't want. So I'll wait till I get to the gym tonight and tell some fighter I want to do light sparring but I will go for the knockout. My friend did offer to record. We'll see so I can show you.
Can't wait

False. I have knocked down so many people with my solid straight jab WITHOUT any kind of rotation at all. Maybe its just me because of the power I have developed but I put that myth to rest. I will see if one of my friends wants sacrifice himself so I can knock him out and post video to show you guys.

Also. I don't know what you guys are getting at with this
"He needs to rotate into the right punch more"
It's a jab. You don't rotate all the much into a jab, first of all. Second, there is limited rotation into a jab anyways.
He could probably rotate more into the left straight. But honestly, your not gonna rotate much into a jab. His jab reminds me of Nonito's. He throws it the same way, with that little forward step as he is throwing.
The best jabs are rotated.

Good stuff. Really good stuff.
Perhaps get him to work on his footwork for a couple of training sessions. Like pure footwork training for a week or so. That way he can move around the ring and won't settle into the mind-set of standing right in front of an opponent.
It's all subconscious learning. Although you and him may not be trying to and/or thinking about it. He could easily get used to and/or fall into the mindset of standing stationary in front of his target to throw punches.
That's what I'd suggest to work on next. He's still learning. So why not have him learn subconsciously. He may not like it(maybe he will, who knows?) but you'll be doing something positive for his progression.
Screw that kid. I can see he already got a sky high ego with that video title. I would humble him down with a body shot.. I am 20+ but if he agrees and is up for it we can get it on. I dont like him..
Lmaaaaoooo son this kid would take you to school
To be honest, you need to always be rotating your punches. Thats the problem with a lot of todays young fighters. I read an interview with Degale when he turned pro and he said ''I have just started to learn to rotate my punches''.
And as for the chin, if he keeps it in the air on the pads he will keep it in the air anywhere else. He's a kid, he needs these things engrained in him while he's young.
Im not bashing him, someone posts a video up asking what people think of him.
To be fair to the kid he is just hitting the pads and not hitting them to kill, just working on accuracy. Turning on your punches comes along when you land, thing is people dont get that concept and telegraph their punches. Bernard Hopkins is famous for throwing arm punches and picking your spots to turn on.
who doesnt have their chin up when they are doing the pads? some do some dont
As to say rotating his body it is just hitting pads and learning how to NOT telegraph a punch, dont get what your getting at...

He needs to learn to rotate his body to punch, especially his right hand. It's easy for anyone to look good on pads. Plus his chin is sky high when he's throwing them punches.
