De la Hoya would have been a champion in any era, for some reason i feel he has become seen as a little overrated. The losses to Mosely (2nd fight) and Trinidad were suspect at the least. Despite having tens of millions in the bank and being a multi millionaire from a very young age he kept a proffesional work ethic and dedication right to the end.
My only criticism is that he could have been a little more relaxed in the ring, a little more loose.
Of the few amateur fights of his that i have seen he was on another level and looked massively powerful despite boxing at feather/super feather
yea, besides the coke, hookers, and cross dressing he was a real class act
mike tyson is and was a mess in his prime and after he retired as well, but have to respect the man's ability to fight and respect the sport....Mike Tyson was a beast and so was DLH
I remember many many carne asadas when Oscar was fighting. Youre trippin talking about mexicans didnt support him. Maybe some were upset with him because of the Chavez fights and said that they didnt like him but ill bet my bottom dollar that come fight night, those same fukkers were paying the pay per view to watch him fight.
If youre mexican than you know what Im talking about. You have to be mexican to understand the relationship Oscar had with the mexican/mexican american fanbase. It was a weird one because of the Chavez fights and then the Vargas fight but regardless we still supported him.
Oscar had the mexican fanbase which is fukkin huge if you get in good with us and the average casual fan who watched him cause of his popularity and then the female fans who just wanted to see him even though they dont know sh!t about boxing.
de la hoya is a legend..in his prime he would of sparked out floyd and duckqiao in the same night..too bad people forget how great he was.
well except sturm...sturm got robbed against him...
=
STURM ATG
I disagree,Chicanos loved oscar.Everybody i knew had partiez when oscar
fought. It aint the same without oscar. Those where sum good times.
All Mexicans I grew up w didnt like him too much. They all rooted against him when he fought vargas
Oscar will always get his props. The man did his thing and was never KO'd outright except for that body blow by B-Hop. He's done very well for himself.
Oscar will always be The Man. His tribute should be worthy of his accomplishments.
(Sans the miscellaneous stocking wearing, coke sniffing)
I agree 100% and i've lived in this country for my whole life. I have been saying it, Americans are the worst boxing fans. English and British are the best fans I have seen but they are also very annoying. Canadians are a close third. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are also better than American fans. So American fans are actually the worst when it comes to supporting their fighters.
How? His whole fanbase was American.
I can go to the donut shop tomorrow morning, ask the Mexicans who hang out there in the morning drinking their coffee who like boxing btw. They are also older individuals. 30+ or so.
"Do you like Oscar De La Hoya"
I guarantee they say no.

^^^ This... Thats how i started watching boxing when i was a lil kid there was always a party to attend when Oscar fought
Americans don't appreciate him anyway, he was a class act. Horrible fans...the worst in boxing by far

The mans a legend, cant believe how he gets ripped on here, ok the tights **** and the drugs was dumb but as a boxer and a personality he was class act.
Ray Leonard, beat his wife and did drugs
Manny Pacquiao cheated on his wife multiple times
Why do they get love and De La Hoya doesn't?
De La Hoya fought everyone, he put on exciting displays, carried boxing on his back for the past decade...
Tyson>de la hoya... now with that said... ODLH was a beast in the AMS and up until he met Hopkins.... who ever liked him, liked him enough to make him, the most famous boxer of the 2000's
Problem with oscar is he didn't fit in.
White boxing fans couldn't really identify with him, blacks didn't like him, mexicans hated him
His fanbase was mostly women and casuals. Very skilled boxer with an awesome left hook.

Are you retarded?
Mexicans didn't accept him or appreciate him. Not Americans.
