Don't get me wrong, I think Amir Khan is a great fighter, in his prime, and has all the tools to be a superstar in this sport, and to be one of the next generations great fighters. I just can't wrap my head around this guy though.
He always says he wants to fight the best out there, but he is reportedly looking to fight Matthew Hatton in his first fight at 147 this Spring??? I understand wanting to see how you do at 147, but for a guy that always claims he wants to fight the best...Hatton is really the best option at 147 first???
Why not fight Kell Brook in the UK for your first fight at Welterweight??? Brook has always said he wants to fight Khan, and Khan said he would like to, but has since backed away from it. It reminds me of when Khan said he'd rather fight Robert Guerrero at 140 (after his fight with Mccloskey) instead of Zab Judah, because Guerrero is in his prime and Judah is past his prime. Khan ended up fighting Zab Judah.
Why not go out and make a big statement at 147 and fight Victor Ortiz, who will need a fight in March or April 2012???
Why not try and make a fight with Andre Berto, so you can already establish yourself as the 3rd or 4th best WW in the world and win a title???
I'd even be happier if he chose to fight the winner of the Selcuk Aydin-Jo Jo Dan rematch. I'd even be happier with him trying to fight WBA WW Champ Senchenko or even former IBF champ Zaveck.
All signs point to Khan making his 147 debut against Matthew Hatton. What do you guys think???
i believe khan said he's going to do 3 fights at welter before floyd. i hope he's not gonna pull a bradley, and fight 3 bums for god's sake!
if brook captures that WBA from senchenko early next year, he should be #1 on khan's hitlist, no questions asked.
I think Khan should do 2 fights at 147 before Floyd. He fights Lamont Peterson in December 2011, than his first two fights at 147 could land in March 2012 and July 2012. That way he can be ready for a showdown with Floyd in November or December 2012. I really don't want to him fight Floyd in 2013, when Floyd will be 36. I think Roger Mayweather was right when he said "My nephew can fight another couple years". By mid-to-late 2013, I think Floyd takes a significant fall back in his skills. He's not in his prime (2001-2007) anymore, but he's still really good. In 2009 and 2010 against Marquez and Mosley, he almost looked prime still, but he took a bit of a step back. Aginst Ortiz in 2011, he took another small step back I think. He still look really good, had great hand speed and accuracy still, and could dodge punches still, but he slowed slightly. It's been in two year intervals with Floyd. By 2013, I think he will slow again and get caught more. I really want May 2013 to be Floyds last fight. I don't want to see him hang around too long like so many other greats (Ali, Holmes, Leonard, Jones, etc.).
If Brook gets his title shot against Senchenko in February or March 2012, once Khan fights once in March 2012 at 147...he should want the fight with Kell Brook. Kell Brook will be undefeated, in his prime, with a title. We will wait and see, but I would not be surprised if Khan takes the easy route until Mayweather next fall. If Khan is truly the "I fight the best" guy he says he is, he will fight two of these fighters before Mayweather in Fall 2012:
Kell Brook
Victor Ortiz
Andre Berto
Devon Alexander

Ricky Hatton was one more great/solid win away from being an All-Time Great, he was an All-Time Really Good fighter. Definitely one of the best in his generation, and maybe the top at 140.
His brother Matthew sucks and is a stepping stone for someone like a Jessie Vargas, Omar Chavez, etc.
I want to see Khan fight Devon Alexander at 147. Both are Golden Boy promoted now, and Alexander is still a really good fighter in his early prime.
Khan cries about Brook fighting Lovemore and how he fights bums, but yet he wants to fight Matthew Hatton. Brook can be slick but can bang, and is a pretty solid technical boxer. Khan beating Brook is NOWHERE near a guaranteed thing, and that's why he's backed off saying he'd fight Brook in the UK.
Good post, I legitimately believe that Brook would beat Khan, I think he would knock him out. I'm sure of it! I think he's a lot more better than Khan in just about every area (apart from an edge in handspeed to Khan) & that isn't much of an edge.

I hope somebody with a boxing sense prevents this. Thats a wack fight, I dont even think it would even sell well in the UK! I think Khan beats needs to fight Alexander or Brook (who I'm not really big on tho) or Berto.
Khan was saying Lovemore Ndou was a bum and shot & he'd K.O him in 5 when Brook fought him but he's on about fighting a guy who got beaten to a pulp & got a very lucky draw against Ndou?
Khans such a hypocrite because he'll big this fight up saying Hattons a tough guy, a worthy opponent etc
Blahhh!
I know he don't want to jump into deep water with his first fight at 147 but surely he could find a better opponent than Matthew Hatton? No disrespect to him but he is garbage & not a threat at all IMO I can't even give him a punchers chance or anything.
You need a feeling out fight to begin with when you move up a division, but Matthew Hatton is abysmal. Why not fight someone like Zaveck? Or Brook? I think he beats Brook convincingly.
Matthew Hatton of all? Man that would be a real slap in the face.
Matthew is nothing but a featherfisted punching bag. Guess they are doing the same thing they did with Canelo.
whats the obsession with fighting MATTHEW hatton, isnt anywhere as good as his brother ever was...fighting him is just for the last name, nothing to do with the first
Hmm can you post a link to an article or something? Haven't heard about Matthew Hatton ....
