According to Dan Rafael, Carl Moretti of Top Rank is working with Murray’s promoter Frank Warren to set up the Rios vs. Murray fight.
In my opinion, Rios is what Murray tries to be, only a much worse version.
they were deciding between having Brandon headline Dec 10th and being on the undercard of either Nov 12th or Dec 3rd.The budgets for all three have to be taken into account as well as what Rios now makes.
Now that they settled on Dec 3rd the budget for an opponent for Brandon was not as good as him headlining Dec 10th so they went with who would agree to what they had to offer
Mitchell probably makes way more than what was offered I assume so I don't blame him for saying no. Martinez wants to stay at 130 etc
it's a stay busy could be worse they were thinking of a fighter that would have caused more heat than this
hope rios is the co mainevent

Ok thanks. Who would you give the edge to in power and chin between Murray and Molina?
Molina for both but I think I might pick Murray if the two ever fight. Murray was doing great in spots against Mitchell.
Crappppppppp! Mitchell should have been in there first. Not that Rio's WBA Lightweight Belt is legitimate but why does Murray get a shot at that fake belt before Mitchell?
Mitchell chose to stay home where he makes vastly more money fighting there than what they had for Rios' 12/3 opponent
don't blame him one bit
I think Murray and Molina are on the same level. It's a little better then vs Martinez and obviously not as good as vs Mitchell which always seemed like wishful thinking for an undercard fight.
Fans are too jaded. Its a fine fight and 135 is a shallow division.

Never seen Murry fight. Do you guys think he will be more competitive than Molina? How do these guys match up stylistically?

Rios just twittered me back. He said that Mitchell didn't want to fight him and so his manager chose the next thing which is fair enough at 135.
Ask him why his camp turned down Molina.

How is Murray the next thing?
Well, who else is good enough at 135 who can give him solid competition? Katsidis would have been my number #1 preference but he's banging with Ricky Burns.
This fight should last less than the Antillon one.
I want to see Rios fighting Miguel Vazquez though. If he wins that one he catapults himself into the elite fighters of boxing

So Mitchell and Murray are his only options?
The Acosta, Peterson and Antillion wins were all good wins imo.
They are ok wins. Now hes taking a giant step backwards. Antillion was even a step back.
Holy **** this will be a STACKED ASS card! margarito/cotto; wolak/rodriguez; rios/murray. . . GUARANTEED to be a night of nonstop action. . . WARS WILL BE WAGED. .
but yes, murray is a D+ version of BAM BAM!!!
not getting my hopes up too much, because I don't know if Warren will want to take the fight - a brutal KO loss, which is an almost certainty, wouldn't be the best thing if Warren plans to get Murray back to the position he intended him to be in. . .
You forgot Jones vs. Lujan. The 3 undercard fights could arguably all be stand alone HBO or Showtime main events.
He pretty much guaranteed that the winner would get Rios.
Either way, its a terrible opponent for Rios. Why is this guy rated so highly by some people? Hes exciting but he fights nobody.

I agree. If you ask Murray he will say this is the best opponent for me because he comes forward. But he is wrong. When Murray was defending his Euro title against tomoto cans they all came forward to give him the best they had any he had to really grind the win out. When someone boxes him and hits and moves (like Mitchell did) he has some success.
He has the charcteristics of a playground bully, likes to dish it out but when someone stands back and dishes it back he isnt so effective.
Warren is just starting to build Mitchell back up again. He's not going to put him in with Rios and destroy him again. He knows Murray can't do anything above domestic level so he is cashing in on him.

What an absolute joke of a fight. At least fight Kevin Mitchell but no, hes fighting the guy he knocked out.
Typical Arum.
