Was it just me or did Sergio look tiny in there?
Barker was his second true Middleweight fight (Pavlik being the first). He even looked short (but stacked) against Dzinziruk who was moving up.
I think now is perhaps the time to officially go after one of the 154lb champs. Probably Margarito if he beats Cotto.
Is there anything left to prove at 160?
I think after seeing him last night, 168 would be ridiculous.
When will you people learn... he will never fight at 154 again unless it is against pacquiao or floyd(and neither of those fights will ever happen)
He can't make 154 comfortable or else he would of fought Dzinziruk at 154 for Dzinziruk's title. He is a middleweight and the realistic big $ fights for him are Chavez Jr and Sturm.
It's Martinez pushing for the fight at 154. If he can't make the weight he should pursue money fights elsewhere.

Ah, didn't realize, and missed the tale of the tape.
I guess it's just me then. I'll have to watch the fight again.
Sergio is officially 2 in a half inches shorter than Barker.
He's 5'10" vs Barkers 6'0" 1/2
his frame was also noticeably smaller, skull size, everything. He looked a lot smaller, had nothing to do with how martinez bends over either. You could see it at teh weigh in, all the press conferences, at during the interviews.

He wasn't much smaller than Barker, maybe the way he bent over constantly made him look smaller, but he was an inch and 3 pounds smaller.
154 has the money, so it would make sense for him to move down. Fans will hate it but I'd understand.
almost 3"s according to boxrec
yes he should move back down..theres nothing at 160
I disagree, Larr. The mw is starting to look good at the level of talent is growing. You got Pirog, Sturm, Quinlon, Golovkin, etc. I say Dibella takes the Martinez show over to Germany and start taking on those guys. Martinez may not be able to sell out in the U.S. against the top European mw's but in Germany I guarantee that there will be filled arenas.
Give me a break move down? Hes p4p top notch supposedly, so why cant he fight at 160lb, as when he is talking about fighting FLoyd or Pac he says he is prepared to move down to 154 like its some big sacrifice?
Pac has moved up untold amount of weights, fighting bigger guys. So if Sergio is good dont lower expectations of him please.
After looking at how small he looked the prospect of him fighting a big SMW like Bute at any weight seems like a joke.
Thought it was a joke from the getgo...

Martinez should be fighting at 154. He was pushed to fight at 160 cuz nobody wanted none of him at junior middleweight. He got a great opportunity to fight for the middleweight tittle and he took it vs pavlik. He stayed at 160 for a big payday vs Chavez jr. Will that day come? i'm not certain it will.
Sergio needs to GO UP, JUST LIKE manny and floyd have done/are doing. . . POUND FOR POUND'ers DO NOT challenge DOWN, they CHALLENGE UP! Sergio has given up weight advantage ONE TIME in his EntIRE CAREER. . . ONE TIME!! LOL!! Manny and Floyd have been doing it forever. . . Marquez is the first time Manny will fight somebody WHO WEIGHS THE EXACT SAME as him in a hot minute. . .
POPPA TONY DID NOT RAISE A COWARD!! Any son of Tony should be a WARRIOR willing to go up in weight to make their own path. . . .
Thats ****ing hilarious considering Mannys fighting JMM and will be fighting bradley next.
Floyd just fought career jww ortiz and will possibly fight Khan next.
Your posts, i just don't know. No idea who you are, but i guess you're trolling?
pac and floyd are sitting in their comfortable division. it's martinez who doesn't seem to know what to do. he's not enough of a draw to lure either guy up.
I didn't ask why Manny or Floyd can't give up 15 pounds to fight Sergio, I asked why sergio can't give up 15 pounds (post-rehydration) to fight Andre Ward or Froch, or Bute? WHY NOT?
because fights with Pac and Floyd is 1000x bigger fights. And if it's the same weight disparity, then that would be a better choice.
So why can they give up 15+ lbs against everyone but Martinez? Are they ducking? Or is Martinez too good to give up size against?
The problem i have with your argument is that you seem to feel it's ok for sergio to go up, but not pac or floyd? Whats the difference?
you guys say sergio is 3rd best pound for pound, right? well riddle me this? WHAT DO POUND FOR POUND guys do?! they GO UP IN WEIGHT! Manny constantly gives up 15+ pounds after rehydration. . . Floyd gave up 15 pounds against Ortiz. . . WHY CAN'T SERGIO!?!?! PLEEASE somebody tell me why can't sergio?!
He gave up 10 against Pavlik.
A hint; he moved up from 154 to 160.
Pac and Mayweather can give up 15+ lbs, but apparently not against sergio who weighs 165 = 15lbs more than they do. Why is this?
If Sergio doesn't want to challenge himself and give us fans the best matchups - he needs to fight PIROG or take his hoe-cake ass down to 154. . .
Yeah because Pirog is the proven #1 contender. He beat Jacobs after all.

its like saying its ridiculous to see pac at 147, but pac has dominated the TOP 5 welterweight outside of DA FRAUD...so i dont see any reason why MANOFVIAGRA cant do it...i mean, this MANOFVIAGRA wants to be the best, then challenge himself to be like a FRAUD or a PAC by moving up another weight division...IMO, IF MANOFVIAGRA martinez likes calling out guys two weight division below him, then i see no problem why he cant call out guys at either super middle or light heavy.
as for lastnites sub par performance, martinez isnt as dominate outside of his fights against the so called MOST FEARED boxer Paul Williams and dzinzurik...barker was walking down martinez all nite and you could tell that martinez wasnt comfortable almost the entire fight
sergio should only move down if he feels comfortable doing so. i don't want to see another guy drain himself just to enter the pac/floyd sweepstakes. it never looked great and it won't look great. i'd say he should go after cotto/lara or another 154 pounder first. that or move up.
Kirkland/Angulo winner, Cotto/Margarito winner, and Lara would all be great fights for him at 154. And if he moves down to 154 officially, it would be much easier to lure Pac and Floyd. He should definitely do it.
