How do you KNOW? Martinez said he was walking around at 169 a few months ago on twitter before training camp even started, and it's pretty obvious he wasn't lying. And it depends on what you mean by normally. At most he walked around at 170+ for 2 fights. He was a still jr middleweight when he fought both Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik. If anything, 170+ is ABnormal for him. He was a welterweight for half his career and jr middleweight for the other half. I doubt 170+ walking weight would be normal for him. He was 176lbs 30 days before P. Will II...

So Pirog doesn't deserve a shot just yet, but Barker did? So Martinez doesn't deserve a shot at Mayeather or Pacquiao just yet, but Ortiz and Clottey did?

I think that Martinez looked bad in purpose, because looking flawless didn't bring any good fights and maybe looking vulnerable would. I don't think He trained to his capacity and looked flat at times, all part of his plan to get a big fight. I believe that just as much as I believe that barker took a dive

If Victor Ortiz can make 147, why can't Martinez make 150? And like Martinez has been saying, he wold take some extra time off to lose the weight properly with specialists. He would come in at at 160 max at fight night if a deal were to be made with May/Pac. Martinez said it himself he would be risking his health to make 150 but he's willing to do it for $5 million guaranteed plus PPV upside. But I just don't think a guy who weighs 175+ 30 days before a fight (meaning he's been in camp for at least 4 weeks) can safely make 150. Either make the fight at 154 or chase more realistic fights. There isn't a shortage of guys who want to fight Sergio that he could make big $ from- Bute at 164 in Canada, Sturm at 160 in Germany. He has no business south of Middleweight, but at least 154 is somewhat reasonable even though that'd be a tight squeeze at this point of his career and his age (don't forget he's 36, a lot harder to shed lbs at that age).
