this is the #1 reason why I dont see Sergio winning. He fights like that 24/7. I just cant see anyone leaving there hands down & beating Floyd. Sergio gets away with it because he's far more skilled & faster then his opponents but that wont be the case against Floyd. Even if you think he's faster, he's not that much faster.
Floyd is mad accurate even if you keep your hands up, let alone with your hands down. He's bound to be landing & seeing openings all day. Sergio can then adjust & put his hands up but he's older now. He's not going to be great at doing that overnight. If he tries to do that then that will take away from his O & he wont fight the same. Anyone else see this as a problem for him in a potential matchup with Floyd?
Not necessarily true, if you look at the Bunema fight, you'll see that he raises his guard in the pocket.
I think a lot of people are misreading how Sergio would be in this fight. His last 4 fights have been against people with notable height advantages. His hands down style lends him the ability to duck his head low and slip punches coming from above.
Against Bunema, he kinda fought tall and dove in with properly guarded combos. He only really had his hands low from a far distance. I'd expect that if he fought against Mayweather.
Wrong!
He really only starts doing it when he is comfortable with whats going on and feels in control, so it all depends of Floyd's ability to land early on him whether he drops them or not.
Wrong Again!
That's the one thing that Martinez and Joe (Calzaghe) did that mislead the fans (or the ones betting against them). They only do it when their confident and they have their opponent figured out to the point where they feel that they can do anything. Just like Martinez did when he finally got into his rhythm against Cintron, Williams and Pavlik. And just like Joe did when he was hitting Kessler and Lacy at will. Its part comfort and part physiologic. If you think that Martinez will come in against Floyd and immediately have his hands by his waist (or fight like that for most of the fight), you'll be disappointed.
..and Wrong Again!
...as it shows every fight, just like Saturdays fight..he comes in with his hands down. he had his hands down in round 1, round 2, round 3..
he kept them down even when he was getting tagged..and kept them down up until the KO..
Floyd will capitalize on this..Sergio will have to remember to raise his hands, which will cause him to think too much, which will throw him off his game..
Why nobody take on dzinziruk, he was 35-0, 200 amateur fights, world champion and six times won as a champion, never knocked down in his whole career, five times in eight rounds fell down with Martínez. Barker was EBU Champion, 23-0. But meh, goat farmers. Atleast they are alive, like Cintron was the best prospect in boxing when he fought Martínez, like Williams the most avoided fighter and "Iron Chin" when he fought Martínez. And all of that are facts, not "ad hominem" arguments, you haters. Ah, Pavlik was the lineal champion, but now, the true and only champion of middleweights is Sergio Martínez.
Floyd is the lineal champ of welters, so this fight is an amazing fight and I can just hope happens early. But Floyd is better and I think Floyd UD Martínez.
Peace.
You just posted an article that stated Mayweather wouldn't fight Margarito unless he had 8 million. My point is (and the question that you have yet to answer), why did he settle for less when he fought Zab? If Margarito is as easy as he and other people claim he would have been, why didn't he accept just as much or at least a million more (which is what arum was putting up)?
That's why the Judah fight was Floyd's last with Arum. He went to Goosen and Made 8 Million for Baldomir, Made over 25 Mil to Fight Oscar and then earned over 40 Million to fight Hatton.
Now tell me again how Floyd priced himself out?
you cant bait floyd. sergio will need major tactical changes if they fight.. but the dropping of hands to the side is a mannerism of sergio when baiting/waiting, it wont work against floyd.
sure he can make floyd go on a defensive stance, but it would probably be more beneficial for floyd.
Sergio's power would be too much for Floyd.
Why everyone say Sergio has all this power? He's not even known for power. Who cares what he did for Paul. Floyd would box Sergio's socks off any day for a UD. Floyd's speed + Sergio's dropped hands= not good.
Gotta go with May after seeing this fight, too elusive and quick. Come round 5 he adapt and see the punches before it comes
It'll be one beautiful fight. Wish it could happen. Cant nobody talk **** afterwards regardless of the outcome
Power doesn't mean a thing. If you constantly get ya face hit with a punch its going to do some damage regardless. Barker aint have power but Martinez had a bloody nose didn't he. If he kept swinging he may have won
That hold his hands low style wont work and its obviously he's definitely slower
He'd get hit without a doubt. Floyd would pop him whenever he'd lunging his head out, but Sergio would find a way to close in and deliver his own harder shots. Floyd would try to keep his distance by throwing pot-shots, but Sergio has the longer reach to land his punches even if Floyd throw his punches at long range. If this fight were to happen, it'd be the first time that i would bet against Floyd. If only Floyd was a harder hitter. I guess you can't have it all.
Floyd doesn't punch hard enough. He has the style to give Sergio problems, but he doesn't the pop to hurt him. Sergio would walk through his punches, and impose his size and strength advantage. Sergio by late round KO.
I do not see Sergio imposing his size and strength on Floyd. That is not his style. Sergio likes to be busy and shoot a lot of 1-2's. I think Sergio will try to box Floyd and catch him on the counter. In regards to the TS on Sergio fighting Floyd with his hands down, I think that would be a huge mistake. His punches would be coming from too far away. I can also vision Floyd catching Sergio with some nasty counters. Floyd will have a huge speed advantage. I still see it as a pick-em fight.

to beat a good boxer power is not enough...floyd is the best defensive fighter in the sport maybe in the history of the sport....
pacman blocks punches with his head he has no defense..that's when power can become a big problem...and that's the reason top rank/pacquiao is ducking martinez.
Floyd outboxes Sergio easy. Leavin your hands down like that against superb fighters will not be good. Cotto would smash Sergio's face in with hard jabs all night long.
