How Cotto can go down as an ATG

i disagree. floyd ducked cotto blatantly. he owes him a fight for all that PR is too far sh1t. floyd ducked Margarito as well. letting all real challenges slug it out while retiring like an overpriced whore. Cotto didn't make it "big" until he beat Mosley. That was the peak of his fame and dominance. He beat Quintana in his welterweight debut, but people said, "Well, Quintana's undefeated...but he's not a veteran." He gave Judah the biggest thrashing of his career, but people said, "Well, Judah had speed and whatnot...but he's known to be mentally broken and is really a junior welter." He went and beat Mosley who was coming off a win against Luis Collazo and then people said, "Okay, NOW he's big. He beat a hall of famer in a fight where he was supposed to be the brawler and he outboxed who was 'supposed' to be the boxer." Cotto then went on to fight Margarito in a fight all hardcore boxing fans wanted to see. Had he beaten Antonio and later gone on to beat Oscar, then MAYBE we would've gotten a serious fight in mid-late 2009, but we didn't. Let me ask you, would you LIKE to see Cotto-Mayweather at this point?

That's a tall order for a guy with only a handful of fights left. I don't think Canelo or JCC do anything for him. They are rising 'stars' and we have no idea where their career will end, so its premature. Fights with Pac, Martinez and Money are legacy fights, and Margarito, to an extent because of their rivalry.

that'd be a crazy good list for him to run through at this point of his career. he doesn't beat martinez, but it wouldn't be bad losing to him either imo. it would be expected.

I don't think he wants to hang around much longer but who knows. Anyway, obviosly he's gotta beat Margarito, bonus points if he can do it without the fight stopping on eye damage. Then he deserves a shot at Mayweather or Martinez. And a win there pretty much puts him in ATG company imo. Golden Boy and Top Rank won't let him anywhere near Canello or JCC JR. Cotto is near the end and they won't let him spoil the rise of their cash cow kids.

but floyd will never fight him. so we will never know that buddy. No, they most likely won't. But I don't knock Floyd for that. If Cotto were still undefeated and demolishing people right now in 2011, maybe. But given the amount of punishment he's taken against Margarito and Pacquiao, I really don't care whether he fights Floyd or not. Because Cotto nor Margarito should REALLY be candidates against Floyd, certainly at this point in their careers. Cotto and Margarito will be done after their fights. Cotto and Margarito will probably have 2-3 fights more left in them against big names, rising stars and then call it quits. Floyd>Cotto I don't care what anyone says. However, I admire Cotto immensely for going through Quintana, Judah, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Pacquiao in a matter of two years.

RCanelo never beats Cotto, sorry. Did you see what Cotto did to Gomez? Did you see Canelo? They can't hang in there. Those two need to fight, Cotto kills any winner. EASY work. Martinez is another story, but Cotto has a jab like a mother****er. People act like Cotto wouldn't have beat P Williams, who went 12 with Quintana, before he KO'd him, whom Cotto demolished before they even fought. They act like Williams is this ATG that Martinez dropped instead of the WW bully that he was. Martinez beats him and a Pavlik coming off of rehab in impressive ways, I'm just saying Cotto can box and brawl a little and he has pop, won't be easy for Martinez, same for Floyd if they ever fight. Cotto vs Margarito, Martinez, Pacman, Floyd, Canelo. ATG SEALED. Williams at welterweight was an animal! A tough tough assignment for anyone. That list of wins is highly highly unrealistic. Floyd will never fight him and pacquiao would win again. However margarito chavez canelo martinez is a more realistic and winnable series for cotto

i know. floyd will always duck cotto for sure.lol:greddy2: I'm one of Cotto's BIGGEST fans here, and I try to keep it fairly objective. But I'm serious when I say this... I've never bet real money on a fight before, but I'd bet the house on Cotto losing that fight if it ever gets made. Cotto will eat right hand after right hand. Cotto is very prone to power punches. He is not very hard to hit. He might a couple rounds, maybe a few, four TOPS...scattered in there. But he is NOT winning that fight. I'd like him to, but he wouldn't. I'd bet all my points on it.

If he wins the following 4 fights margarito Chavez jr Canelo Martinez if he can win even 3 out of those 4 fights, what does that do for his legacy? Where does that put him? I for one believe he still has a lot of fight in him. If he can get past margarito it may do him a world of good confidence wise. Martinez beats him easy and i think Canelo beats him, hes better than Chavez, but the extra weight might get him..... and pretty sure Margartio beats him in Dec too this is my road for cotto as atg. Margarito PAC floyd and martinez then the canelo/chavez winner. atg is a lock. keep dreaming....

beating margarito does nothin at this point. but wins against canelo and martinez might do it for him. i think legacy wise a margarito win wouldnt do much. but it may well be the first step of a resurgence for cotto. restore some of his old confidence and swagger we haven't seen from him since that fateful night
