According to Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy, Floyd will fight 3-4 more times in the next 18 months and call it a career. He swears to god that Floyd will fight regularly till his retirement, and also guarantees that Mayweather-Khan and Mayweather-Pacquiao will happen.
If Schaefer is right, and he's got NO REASON to lie and he's been a stand up guy, as well as never steering us (the fans) in the wrong direction or contradicting himself, or flat out lying about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight(Money Time: Mayweather's Decision)...like Bob Arum.
I would love to see Floyd fight 3-4 more times regularly till his career is done. I see Floyd fighting his last fight in early 2013, at age 36, before he completely begins to deteriorate and before his skills start to severely erode. If Schaefer is correct, Floyd will fight 3-4 more times until March 2013 (18 months from now) and call it a career.
Do you believe him??? I certainly don't think Floyd be taking a layoff anymore, he can't afford too. And with so many other fight possibilities in the next year and a half, I see him fighting regularly again. I htink Floyd really enjoyed being back in the ring, and seeing how well he performed in his first 4 rounds of activity in 16 months against the #2 WW in the world who is in his prime coming off wins....I must be honest that I am excited to see Floyd fight these last few fights of his career. He really looked just as solid against Ortiz as he did 16 months earlier against Mosley. You can't deny it.
So, what do you think about Schaefer's guarantee of Floyd fighting regurlarly for the next 18 months, 3-4 more times in the next 18 months, and of Floyd fighting Pacquiao and Khan before it calls it a career???
I already think Floyd has a pretty solid resume. He doesn't have a resume like Ali or Leonard (arguably the two best resumes of all-time), but he has beaten good opponents his whole career, with relative little trouble. I think Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are both all-time greats, but until they fight each other, they will be on the lower list of the ATG. I think Floyd's resume is underrated in how people view it, and I think Manny's is a bit overrated in how people view it. To me, they are pretty even. Did Floyd really never beat any good fighters in their prime??? Did Manny beat Marquez, Morales, and Barrera all in their prime and come out untouched??? NO. You can argue that only Barrera (1st fight) was in his prime when Manny beat him. Manny only beat Morales, after Morales lost to Raheem and looked terrible (and I repeat TERRIBLE) in 2006. And he only beat Marquez in 2008 by a controversial SD. Marquez was still great in 08' but not prime anymore.
I think Manny and Floyd have even resumes and the last 3-4 fights of their careers may end up being the most important. For the time being, Floyd one upped Manny by fighting a prime Victor Ortiz, coming off big wins, while Manny is fighting Marquez for some reason. Still, the resumes are even.
Manny: Ledwaba, Barrera (2), Morales (2 of 3), Marquez, Solis, Diaz, De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley.
Floyd: G. Hernandez, Manfredy, Corrales, C. Hernandez, Chavez, Castillo (2), N'dou, Gatti, Judah, De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz.
Both are solid and even. Both have flaws. Both have fighters past their primes and in their primes. I think Floyd may have fought more people in their prime or latter-prime than Manny, but still it's even. I think Floyd's win over Gatti is overrated, simply because Gatti was past it (even when he was fighting Micky Ward), but I think his wins over Corrales, Castillo, and Hatton are really underrated. I think Manny's wins over Morales are overrated, only because Morales was not even close to the same guy and he was coming off a loss to Raheem. But, I think his win over Cotto is a bit underrated. Yeah, Cotto was coming off getting knocked out by Margarito and has never been the same "prime" fighter he was in 2008 since. But, Cotto was still great at the time and is still good now. In my opinion, Cotto just needs one more really big win to cement a legacy as an ATG. He'll avenge his loss to Margarito and has wins over a latter prime/past prime still good Judah and a past prime still good Shane Mosley. If he were to beat Saul Alvarez (who will be a future champion for awhile) or Sergio Martinez, he would become an ATG. However, that most likely won't happen.
Anyways, I don't think Manny Pacquiao sucks and is crappy, I just think his resume is a little overrated. Pacquiao fans always nag Floyd for fighting Baldomir (coming off beating a prime Judah and hadn't lost in 8 years), yet defend Pacquiao fighting Clottey (hadn't won a fight in two years). They say Floyd ducked Margarito and Cotto, but they act like Pacquiao never ducked anything. He certainly ducked a Barrera rematch for 4 years, and a rematch with Marquez for 4 years, and a third fight with Marquez for 3 1/2 years. He certainly wasn't trying to fight Andre Berto or Shane Mosley after the Floyd negotiations broke down. He certainly wasn't trying to fight Victor Ortiz after he beat Andre Berto.
I think Floyd and Manny are even, and the last 3-4 fights of their careers will be the most improtant. If they never fight each other, it'll be sad, and people will automatically say Manny is better. But, if Floyd finished his career fighting Ortiz, Khan, Alvarez, and maybe Martinez...and if Pacquiao finished his career fighting a Cotto rematch, Ortiz in 2012, Bradley, and like a Mike Jones....you may have to give Floyd a slight edge.
I have to agree!
Floyd has such a casual approach to arranging his fights and diary, that days turn to weeks, and weeks turn to months really fast. And before we know it a year has past.
Floyd needs to show a little more urgency if it need be told? If its khan, Pac and Sergio, he needs to get on his bike and get moving a bit.

Sounds like a trilogy with Pac and a farewell fight with Khan to hand over the torch.
Here's to wishful thinking...
i like how floyd fans rank mayweather to their personal atg list after fighting pac.
so pbf resume will be great with a pac name under his belt. but at the same time discredit pacs own accomplishments turning pac into this overrated cheating,one-dimensional predictable fighter that fights past prime, in-house,tailor-made bums. while taking PEDs just for good measure :D
how can a pac name shoot up mayweathers resume like that?

Top 20? well how many of those 19 fighters ahead of him dominated their opposition for 17 years straight with no losses? Guys cant get cookie points because they were in more battles and wars. How many of those 19 fighters ahead of Mayweather are as skilled all around as he is from a defensive and offensive stand point?
How are you coming up with the criteria for this list?
We aren't talking about skill though homie. Skillwise Floyd is ALREADY top 5-10 EVER. Resume wise those three names would leap him up the list as well.
I agree. Also, to another poster, I don't remember Schaefer guaranteeing anything about Floyd fighting regularly after the Marquez fight or guaranteeing Mayweather-Pacquiao. Maybe I am mistaken but I don't think so.
I would like all of those fights, except for Cotto. Cotto hasn't been considered "Prime" or "Latter-prime" since his loss to Margarito and 2008, and has never really been the same fighter at all. He's still good but he's past his prime. Floyd UD's Cotto easily. Although, would you think it's more impressive if Floyd beat Cotto at 154 for his Super WW title than when Manny beat him at a Catchweight for his WW title??? I just don't see it happening because Floyd makes a point that Manny has fought a few of his left overs (De La Hoya 1 1/2 years later, Hatton 2 years later, Mosley 1 year later, Marquez at 144 2 years later) and I can't see him fighting a Pacquiao and Margarito left over who hasn't been too great since 08'. If Cotto were to win a huge fight, like against Sergio Martinez or Saul Alvarez...then maybe, but I'd still doubt it.
Also, contrary to what people are saying about Pacquiao fighting Martinez 150....I just can't see it happening and would HATE to see it. I don't wan tot see Sergio weight drain himself anywhere below 154 AT ALL. It would be a HUGE disadvantage for Sergio to go down 150 from 160, while Pacquiao goes to 150 from 147. Also, notice how people have questioned Manny about Sergio agreeing to 150 and he hasn't had ANY response. Dibella even said a fight with Floyd at 154 is a much more realistic possibility than with Pacquiao. Maybe if Sergio gets knocked down or struggles to beat Darren Barker (which won't happen of course), than maybe Pacquiao will fight him. I know its sad, but if Mayweather-Pacquiao doesn't happen early next year, I can see Pacquiao fighting the Cotto-Margarito 2 winner (Arum already mentioned a rematch with Cotto as a possibility) or Victor Ortiz (who Floyd already beat).
My dream for Floyd to end his career is like this:
Sept 2011: Victor Ortiz
March 2012: Sergio Martinez at 154
August 2012: Manny Pacquiao
December 2012: Amir Khan
May 2013: Saul Alvarez (hopefully he shows us in the next year or so that he can beat top fighters. Hopefully he fights someone like Lara, Trout, Cotto, Martinez, Angulo, Martirosyan, or even Chavez Jr.)
That would be my ideal dream touches on Floyd Mayweather's career.
And i guess you believe he will come out from all this fights as the winner right? I doubt it, but if he really would he would be the greatest of all time and im no Mayweather fan! I mean he would retire undefeated and with wins over other Topp4p fighters. His resume all together would just be too good fought and beat the best of his era in manny weight divisions. But like i said i dont see it happening. I would pick Pac and Martinez to beat him.

Don't see Floyd surpassing them ON MY personal LIST, even if he accomplishes that. Don't see any active period surpassing them.
Maybe, depending on how he wins and where they at at as a fighter at the time he fights. Could he be arguably, ARGUABLY, top 10 on my personal list...Maybe perhaps.
Too many great fighters, with great resumes and accomplishments in the history of the sport.
I can FULLY respect that opinion. I was just listing a scenario that would make him, IMO a top 5 ATG. It's much easier said than done of course. It will always be hard for any fighter of our day and age to meet that list just because of the different nature of past and present boxing (money, the amount of fights etc...) so I am just using TODAY's criteria of great fighter and trying to make it fit with the greats of the past.

No way, can't see that personally.
Highest Mayweather will ever see is Top 15-20, highest.
If he were to beat all those fighters.
LMFAO
That's what he said in 09 before he saw Pac demolish Cotto and Hatton back to back
Yeah right and then he tried to hook Manny up but Manny ran out the door to Clottey so Floyd kept his word when he said if he cant get Pac he will fight Mosley ,,, you kids have such selective short memorys
if his last 3 Fights is against Pacquiao, Khan, Martinez...that would boost his legacy greatly
it is really nothing anyone can ever say about him after that...well IMO but Haters will always find something to hate on, they will find another fighter and jump on his bandwagon and say "HE WOULD BEAT MAYWEATHER"
Floyds so invincible that not even his speech can be effected by taking punches to the head.
:theyareon
Oh it can, but I haven't seen no decline have you? I also haven't seen a decline in Hop speech, so it's not about being invincible.
It might show up later in years to come. That's always likely. But, today, he speech it's still the same.
Thanks for admitting to the fact that your reply had nothing to do with my post. Which is clearly why I said you never understood the question in the first place. You just owned yourself lol
Secondly, I'll say this again since you have a hard time understanding. TS implied who would we "like" to see. Not, who are we "going" to see. This is why I posted who I would like to see (Top Rank or not).
See the difference?
Obviously you got lost in the conversation somewhere.
I never replied to anything that you liked to see. My only reply to you is that Floyd speech hasn't declined.
My comment was to DLT.
Who said what he could honestly see happening. Which is different from what you have said the TS asked for, which was what you would like to see happening.
I gave you an example of the difference between like to see happening and honestly see it happening.
Here it is again.
would like to see Pac fight Martinez at 160.
I can't honestly see that happening.
Do you see the difference between the two
If you still not understanding. Then I don't know what to say. And, you're starting to bore me. So have a good day.
There's a difference between you would like to see and what you can honestly see happening.
I would like to see Pac fight Martinez at 160.
I can't honestly see that happening.
Do you see the difference between the two?
Agreed. And I think Pac will never fight above 150lb, because it could possibly take away his speed.
who give a f*ck what schafer says after he said that Mosley-floyd was gonna sell 4 million PPV's in a recession
Pac-Floyd won't even sell 4 mill and he talkin about Mosley-Floyd was gonna do 4 mill
GTFOH
I totally agree J Ro, that is a highly( x100 :lol1:) unlikely scenario that he will fight 2 Top Rank fighters.
Mayweather doesnt want to do business with Bob Arum. Arum still owes him money from past fights, i believe Gatti & Judah if I remember correctly. Mayweather has consistently shouted to the media over the past couple years that Manny Pacquiao has the worst deal in boxing, hes paying 2 promoters etc etc. Now recently Mayweather has been saying "Pac needs to get his sh!t togther, get his money in order, check his finances" blah blah. IMO he is telling Manny to ditch Bob Arum so Manny can get his fair share for the fight & they can BOTH MAKE MORE without Arums hands in the pot. Then all of this stuff coming out from Vision Quest who apparently has all the evidence to prove that it is in fact Manny has been getting raped by Arum and his Advisor, this could be the thing that allows the fight to happen.
Oscar left Arum, Floyd did as well, Pac might be next....
Goes back farther than that. Ali and Leonard both got stuck by Bob Arum. Manny and Cotto should've left a long time ago.
Pac, Khan,Martinez, Pac again in any order and you can retire TOP 5 greatest fighters to ever exist Floyd Mayweather.

haha Since you want to talk about comprehension, ok let me put this in kiddy terms for you.
I thought TS implied who would we "like" to see Mayweather fight in his next 3-4 fights. I then posted my 4 fights I would "like" to see Mayweather in. After that, you began to belittle posters while explaining that posting 2-3 Top Rank fighters in the equation showed how we (including DLT) knew nothing about Mayweather or boxing.
In reply to your post, I stated that I thought TS wanted to know our opinions (Top Rank fighters or not), on who Mayweather should fight as his next 3-4 opponents. In reply to my statement you say "He didn't say he would like to see Cotto, he said he can honestly see Floyd fighting Cotto". WTF???? That had nothing to do with my post.
That's why I then say, "you didn't understand my last post".
HAHAHA Then you say "I" need reading comprehension????? You're clearly the one that's confused here.
There's a difference between you would like to see and what you can honestly see happening.
I would like to see Pac fight Martinez at 160.
I can't honestly see that happening.
Do you see the difference between the two?
sr better start making some calls to his old connect if floyd is looking to fight 3-4 times in 18 months!! better stack up on them PEDS!!! HAHAH..
A manny pac fan talking about another fighter on peds!

I literally spit water on my screen fell back and rolled on the floor
