I have to watch the fight again but it seemed that Floyd was getting hit with harder shots than we are used to seeing. And obviously in the Mosley fight too.
Against Ortiz, was it because of age, ring-rust, or because of Ortiz himself (speed, southpaw, etc)?
I'm not sure if age is an issue, undecided there, but I imagine ring rust and Ortiz being Ortiz were the problems.
Edit: Forget talking about Lampley because I agree he seemed to be wrong a few times. However, there were obvious shots that Floyd got hit with.
And he got hit 26 times in 4 rounds but none of them were by jabs. 26 power shots is higher than normal for him.
Lets be serious for a second about Floyd has no legs. Floyd didnt bulk up in retirement to run more use your brains. Ortiz wasn't landing s**t nothing that serious anyways.
I don't know, I still feel like he has his legs. He seemed like he moved fast in this fight when he needed to. He did seem to go to the ropes a decent amount but that could just be because of rust and Ortiz. He went forward, maybe not because of not having legs, but because thats what he tends to do against southpaws.
Against Mosley, maybe he just felt that he didn't have to use his legs. Not too sure there.
There were still several times when Victor tried to come in fast and hard to hit Floyd, and Floyd got out of harms way pretty quick by using his legs. I don't think Floyd will dance anymore to victory, because as he has gone up in weight, he's used his legs to dance less and less. His style now is more of a toe-to-toe walk them down style. Walk them down, but be on the defensive and slip punches, but still get out of harms way when needed to. And, when you can't, clinch and hold, while trying to dip punches. All the while he lands quick counters or check hooks, along with straight rights and jabs here and there. He's still as olid and great fighter. I have seen nothing in the Ortiz fight that leads me to believe he's slowed down at all since Mayweather-Mosley in 2010.

He did land clean shots, although not many. The only challenge would be me learning to make a video lol.
I already mentioned this. I did do that. Thread still stands.
You know whats funny, Mosley actually fared slightly better than Ortiz did. Look back, especially at the numbers.
Through 4 rounds against Mosley:
Mayweather landed 51 of 125 total punches (41%).
Mosley landed 39 of 131 total punches (30%).
Mayweather landed 26 of 59 power punches (44%).
Mosley landed 18 of 55 power punches (33%).
Through 4 rounds against Ortiz:
Mayweather landed 73 of 208 total punches (35%).
Ortiz landed 26 of 148 total punmches (18%).
Mayweather landed 61 of 125 power punches (49%).
Ortiz landed 26 of 117 power punches (22%).
It's very interesting. Mayweather was more active against the younger, quicker, and harder hitter in Ortiz. He hit with more power, thus he was walking Ortiz down, who out weighed him by 14 lbs. He was a bit more accurate with his power punches, and slightly less accurate with his jab. Mayweather usually works his opponents down even more as the fight goes on, so Ortiz most likely would have ended up landing even less than 18% of his total punches, while Floyd most likely would have been up into the 40 percents for his landing rate. Statistically speaking, Mayweather was as sharp as ever. I really don't think he looked any better of worse than he did against Mosley. He looked pretty much the same. Not in his prime (2001-2007), but still great (2009-Present).
The only good shot Mayweather got hit with was a looping left hand to the body, and honestly, I'm not even sure that landed.
When Ortiz muscled Floyd and pushed him against the rope, I only saw few punches that landed through Floyd's high guard defense. He blocked most of the body punches with his forearms. Floyd is freaking brilliant, I wish he'd fight more often.
Yo. In all seriousness, Floyd is an amazing fighter.
His ring intelligence is just ridiculous.
I challenge someone to make gifs or a highlight video of the CLEAN shots that Ortiz landed. CLEAN shots.

Next time put it on mute, and let your own eyes be the judge. Jim got carried away for nothing. Floyd slipped with most Ortiz's punches, they didn't had that much effect on him.

He's got no legs anymore so is forced to stand toe to toe. His time is coming.

I don't think Floyd was getting hit anymore than usual. When Ortiz had Mayweather on the ropes (about 10 seconds a couple times), it reminded me a lot of when Floyd fought Oscar. The crowd and annoucners would go nuts, even though most of the punches were completely missing or landing on floyds arms and shoulders. Look at that link. Mayweather landed 35% of his punches and over 40 something % of his power punches, while Ortiz landed 17-18% and only 22% of his power punches. Given the fact that this was Floyds first fight in 16 months and Ortiz a tougher opponent than anyone he's fought since Hatton, and tougher than any of Pacquiao's opponents since Marquez in 2008, he did great. People that are saying Ortiz won the second round and was about to win the 4th....are full of it! Floyd still out landed Victor big time in the 2nd, even landed more power shots, and Floyd was out landing Victor by more than 10 power shots in the 4th before the headbutt. Any time Victor got close, Floyd clinched and held his way out. Than he went back to popping Ortiz with straight rights, a jab here and there, and quick counters. Jim Lampley sucks and people are tired of Larry Merchant, although It was ugly what went down post-fight. Any time someone has Mayweather on the ropes for like 5 seconds, he goes nuts, when in fact they land about 2or 3 punches before Floyd is out of there and back to landing on them all night. Lampley sucks in my opinion.
Mayweather looked solid in my opinion

I believe it was a flush right in the 4th and then a left you are thinking of. Thats what sent him into the ropes again.

More like Ortiz quit AGAIN! Didn't see him complaining and he seemed delighted he was out the fight, all smiling, laughing & joking because he wanted out the fight because Floyd was raping him & he wasn't even out of 2nd gear.

Because Floyd decided to "punk" Ortiz by coming forward and staying in the pocket.
Floyd's best chance of winning was to make Ortiz go backwards. Just like vs Zab Judah. So you gotta take some leather to do that.
When Ortiz saw that he couldn't hurt Floyd, he got dirty.
What hard shots? Only few punches got through between Floyd's high guard defense. As i said, Shane did much better against Floyd than Ortiz did. Ortiz didn't do ****, he threw a few bunch of wild punches out of frustration, but I've seen Floyd got hit way more in the past.
This is just another perfect example of Floyd being held to a much higher standard than everyone else right now. Is he not suppose to get hit?
Cause he was fighting a young lion,Ortiz was winning and had Floyd ready to go.Floyd pulled him in and made it appear he headbutted him so he can get his legs back, then like the coward he is he sucker punched him and the paid off ref counted this great young champion out.
More like Ortiz quit AGAIN! Didn't see him complaining and he seemed delighted he was out the fight, all smiling, laughing & joking because he wanted out the fight because Floyd was raping him & he wasn't even out of 2nd gear.
When Floyds on the ropes, the crowd goes mad when someone unleashes on him - Reality is nothing is landing at all but the crowds roaring & **** sometimes persuades you, especially if you are bias.
When Floyd was on the ropes vs Ortiz, I think 1 shot hit the gloves and all the rest missed. This is why he got frustrated and threw a a dirty lunging headbutt.
Look at the punchstats. He landed nearly 3 times as many shots. The harder, cleaner shots. Watch the fight back, anybody says Mayweather wasn't hurting Ortiz at all prior to the K.O is blinded with hate. He had Ortiz wincing in pain at least twice & stopped him in his tracks numerous times, forcing him on the back foot. His legs buckled at a bodyshot & looked like he was about to burst out crying.
Read it again, I said hard shots. And not many people count compubox. If I recall he landed 0 jabs so that means he got hit with 6-7 power shots per round. Normally he gets hit with a jab and that adds to the statistic, but in this case it was powershots.
lol. Even on the ropes he was getting hit when he was being defensive. Thats the point.
Ortiz wasnt landing anything on the ropes..thats why he got frustrated
I didn't come away from the fight thinking Mayweather got hit more.
However, I did come away thinking that Lampley was a bit off and the crowd was getting excited over nothing most of the time.
*Mayweather lands right hand*
Lampley: "Left hand by Ortiz!!!"
He is fighting a different style & planting feet more, sitting down on his punches. You moan when he's mobile & on the defensive & say he is running.
You moan when he trades & say his legs are shot.
Quit hating you knob, still butthurt he sparked Hatton out.
Who's moaning? I'm just calling it how it is, he doesn't have the same mobility he used to so he's forced to stand in front of his opponent.
