Pretty Boy turned ugly last night.....I respect the guy for his boxing ability but there IS such a thing as sportsmanship...his behaviour was cheap, nasty and low class.
I believe in sportsmanship and also that boxing is an honorable sport filled with honorable athletes, but there is a good reason for the “protect yourself at all times” rule.
Look at it from the other way around: If all a boxer had to do to stop an opponent from hitting him was to put up his hands to tap gloves with his opponent, start talking to the ref, or simply turn away, the sport would come to a stand still. The action in the ring would stop every few seconds and the sport would eventually cease to exist.
I’m sorry, because of that you have to protect yourself at all times and the burden of being ready for an attack is on fighter and not only when he is ready with his hands up.

Is this after he thrust his entire body upward towards my head with his head in position to butt me on purpose.....
YOU GOD DAM RIGHT I WOULD, FUCC ORTIZ.
Yes I would, it's a boxing match isn't it? If I'm in a fight, have been headbutted 7 times, kissed on the cheek, hugged, and touched gloves with my opponent two times already I definitely would. It's not my fault they don't understand or follow the principle of defending themselves at all time.:duh:
Legal punch, sure. Ortiz headbutted him, right.
Still cheap and pathetic, much more than a headbutt that may or may not have been on accident. It looked pretty intentional, but Ortiz hasn't really fought dirty in the past and sometimes people do stupid, spontaneous things. What Floyd did wasn't spontaneous. He baited Ortiz out of a defensive stance, took advantage of a stupid referee and did one of the most disgusting things I've seen in boxing for years. All this legal punch, eye for an eye crap is just an excuse. That was pitiful sportsmanship, and he should have been DQ'd.
Personally i don't even blame floyd, yes he did something dirty but Joe Cortez was the ****ty refferee who let it all happen, he stopped paying attention to what was happening.
Plus Victor tried to headbutt him more than once, and mayweather was using his Elbow.
They need to have a rematch with another referee that actually understands the importance of a big fight like that.
Cause say what you will, but before all the crap it was an insanely entertaining fight. :boxing:
Is Floyd supposed to say "Hey Victor I'm about to punch you in the face REALLY hard, you might want to put your hands up"
Ortiz "Okay Floyd thanks for the warning!"
Would I do the same thing ABSOLUTELY and anyone who says different, think about this...You have been fighting for 16 years, you have never lost, you are the best fighter of your era, this guy you are looking at wants to end that and give you your first lost. Are you really not gonna take every legal shot you can? If you answer "no" your just a hater.
Is it still legal if your opponent is looking in another direction with his hands by his side...even if it's techinically legal is it morally correct?

Ortiz wasn't even really hurt even tho it was a sucker punch. I watched it live and I thought it was a fast count. I watched i again this morning and it was definatly a fast count.
Ortiz was completely fine after the fight. He was just stunned. There was no concussion or anything like that. The punch Pac landed on Mosley was harder than the sucker punch Floyd put on Ortiz.
You are right, it was a quick count...
in a street fight you do what you gotta do to be the last man standing... but in a boxing contest, you gotta try to win in an honorable fashion...
Exactly. I've seen cheap shots like that hundreds of times in the ghetto. You can take a Mayweather out of the ghetto but you cant take the ghetto out of a Mayweather lol.
Good question, but the one i keep asking myself is; If somone tries to break your face with their head would you-
A) give them a big hug and say "thank you, all is forgiven".
Or
B) punch them right in the face.
He pulled the same move on Mosley, the difference is Mosley kept his hands up after the hug and took the shots well, Ortiz didnt and i honest don't think Mayweather was expecting those shots to put him down and out.
I totally agree. Ortiz should have known to watch out for that kind of thing after seeing the Mosley fight, but instead he backed away with his hands down to his sides with his eyes off Floyd! How stupid is that? And of course Floyd was going to hit him after getting head butted right in the mouth. Ortiz made himself look like an amateur the way he took his eyes off Floyd. They don't tell you to protect your self at all times for nothing.
If they had just headbutted me, and I thought the fight was still on? **** yes.
Im not happy with how the fight ended, but I blame that on Cortez more so than Mayweather. Not the classiest thing to do, but I would have been ****ing pissed.
If he headbutt me I would of probably just slapped him with my glove or just landed a semi strong hook, but what went over the edge was Floyd landing his two hardest shots on someone coming to him peacefully and saying sorry in his biggest fight of his life, and he wasn't that experienced. He ended up embarrassing himself rather than embarrassing Ortiz. He lost a lot of Mexican fans...
Mexican Hipsters: "we were totally Floyd fans before he responded to an ILLEGAL BLOW with a LEGAL ONE but can't anymore"

In the street, yes. Because there's no such thing as a "fair" street fight.
In the ring, yes. Because It's not my job to be both a fighter AND a referee.
Floyd did this against Shane and Arturo Gatti.
What was particularly sinister was Floyd smiling at Ortiz while returning the hug, with an eye on Cortez as well.
Yeah I noticed that too...it was extremely sly.
