I say yes, here is why...

- Ortiz comes out hands in front as if to fist bump.

- Floyd suggests a hug.

- Ortiz moves in for the suggested hug to make peace.

- Ortiz was backing out of a HUG - not a break, hence forth don't talk to me about "protect yourself at all times".
This is a PROFESSIONAL boxing match, not a street fight. Ortiz paid the price for his foul via a deducted point. Floyd added his own flavor of justice via a sucker punch hidden behind a hug. What type of person fakes an apology and then punches someone in the face with their hands down who has already apologized more than once? A straight up biotch that's who. I would expect this from a Mayorga or a Zab Judah not the self proclaimed greatest thing to ever enter the ring.
Whether it was legal or not, whether time was in or not, it was a sucker punch.
At what point did he "cry" about the outcome of the fight?
In the post fight press conference he said he wasn't convinced Mayweather is the best in the world and he would like a rematch.
That's what crying sounds like to you?
Ortiz can't initiate a dirty fight then cry when it gets rough. Mayweather allowed Ortiz to hug, kiss and tap gloves before he put his guard back up. Didint he expect that Mayweather might have been a little pissed at his dirty tactic?
I was pretty pissed by the outcome because I was looking forward to the boxing clinic that Mayweather was putting on. I honestly think Ortiz failed to make the count because he knew it was gonna be a long frustrating night.
of course it was a sucker punch. now i know floyd was well within the rules but that was definitely a sucker punch.
Allow me to cosign you for a moment.
I know it was LEGAL.
Let me state that before someone comes in here quoting the rule book.
It was legal, everyone knows this.
Yes, he suckered punched him....Mayweather pretended to be sportsmanslike then one-two comboed Victor Oritz....if Mayweather truly believes there's no clean fight---WHY THE HELL WOULD U FAKE HUG UR OPPONENT?!?!?!
where in the rules does it say to "Tap Gloves" or "Shake hands" or "Kiss and make up" ???
this is a fight, treat it that way
No one suggested that there is a rule anywhere that says that.
Do you read threads you enter or do you just comment?
My issue is with Floyd faking a hug and then immediately throwing a bomb at Ortiz.
Protect yourself at all times? Really...
How do you protect yourself coming out of a hug?
No doubt it was a sucker punch.
Cortez's fault for making it ambiguous as to whether time had started yet. (Brings them to middle of ring THEN asks the time keepers if they're ready for him to start the time)
Ortiz still needs to protect himself at all times, though.
Don't get me wrong. In no way am I over looking what Ortiz did.
That was BEYOND stupid.
It's the fake hug aspect of this that disgusts me. Just touch gloves with the kid and go to work. He looked like he was on his way to either a land slide decision or a late KO. Echoing what Lampley said, if you're the self proclaimed world's best then why is something like that necessary?
Because it's part of the sport. What did Mayweather do wrong?..
Immediately after the foul, Ortiz ran over there to hug and kiss, Mayweather didn't retaliate or nothing. He looked at him and said WTF?...then Cortez said "let's go", brings his hands together, signaling "BOX", and Ortiz still wanted to hug, kiss, and apologize, and Mayweather touched, and went to work immediately, he was trying to go backward again like if Cortez had said "break", in which he never did, again.

Look at Mayweather's facial expression when ORTIZ suggested to hug again, and Mayweather instantly put his guard up and said "c'mon"..and slapped his dumbass..
IDK how many people here are involved in Boxing, (box, coach, officiate, etc.) but the rules are the rules, nothing says that once the time is rolling you must touch gloves, or hug and kiss, you're in combat while time is rolling, Ortiz just kept trying to be an apologetic figure to his wrongdoing and paid the price, Mayweather did his job, it was legal and fair. What Ortiz did on the other hand...not so much.
