(Note: I'm discussing points which came to light after last night, not a Floyd/Pac comparison in general- that's been done to death on these forums)
A 144/145 Pac on fight night, with a huge reach disadvantage, will struggle all night.
There's the obvious:
Ortiz weighed almost 15lbs more and has the power to back it up, but even after Floyd's lay off he wasn't intimidated.
When Floyd began working the jab Ortiz noticed. It's still lightning quick. Cotto and particularly JMM made inroads with theirs. Floyd will dominate with his.
But what impressed me most:
When Ortiz tried to lean, Floyd did everything; rolled, blocked, countered, even leaned forward to resist. He still hasn't lost his natural muscle strength. When Pac tries his best to get on the inside and eventually does, Floyd can outwork him, but I think he'll be happier to lean and smother and make him feel it.
I would want Pac to win, but before and after last night, I can't see how it happens. Not at all.
Ive said this for a long time, the only guy with the ability to beat Floyd Mayweather is Paul Williams. Not the skills mind you, just the ability. Floyd will NEVER lose to a guy his size. Unless the guy he is fighting has a significant height, reach advantage AND similar skill level, Floyd will win because his mental game is so so strong.
actually that's not a bad thought but I don't think Paul Williams would beat Floyd (yeah yeah, "fantasy fights"), I think the only type of fighter that could beat Floyd is somebody like Pacquiao but without the size disadvantage, somebody like martinez
I still think Floyd is a better boxer than Sergio, but it would be Floyd's toughest fight (not Pacquiao)
Pac does not have the ability to beat Floyd other than a punchers chance , Floyd is too good in all departments , he will be a lot stronger than Pac people dont realize how strong Floyd is , they have been blinded by a flashy style thinking its cowardice lol , Floyd is sitting down more these days and is showing more of what he has by doing so , Pac cant beat the running potshoting Floyd , and he cant beat the strong destructive break you down Floyd ,,,,, when Floyd schools him and makes it look easy I hope people realize what a truly great boxer he is .
and yet you guys cry "take the tests!"
fukking stans. you are no better than the pactards you so deeply loathe
1 thing u notice, when Ortiz had Floyd against the ropes (prior to the headbutt) although Floyd was getting out of the way very well, he was still in pure defense mode... Hopefully he knows better than to do that with Manny becuz Manny's smart enough (or, at least Roach is) to know to do that from round 1 on, and if Floyd's just gonna let him, he's gonna lose... We'll see
everytime floyd or pac fights, there comes an argument why x beats y.
bottom line, both have the ability to give each other problems and should be around 50-50 or the slightest advantage to floyd.
him beating ortiz in that cheap manner haven't convinced me otherwise

Everybody knows that styles make fights. So this wasnt a preview of a pac/may fight. And I think Ortiz just gave up mentally in rnd 3 and 4. **** he quit in the maidana fight! Ortiz made alot of mistakes in those 4 ends and Floyd capitalized on that. So now what? Is Floyd going to fight pac? Who knows......just man up Floyd and throw down mah nig!
I dunno.. i was convinced floyd would outpoint pac. But after the ortiz fight, i really think pac would would give ffloyd fits bringing those weird stance and angles with that current reflexes of floyd. Pac just brings some factors different than everybody else including the other left handers,
I guess we just have to wait until the pac-jmm3 fight. But right now i see it 50-50 or slightly in favor of Pac.
IMO, last night showed that Pac can and will connect on FMJ. It will be a battle of straight lefts v. lead rights.
It's still a toss-up.
What in the world showed you that? The 18% connect rate for ortiz?

Ive read a lot of crap on here and this is the post I have to agree with the most. Well said.
No, the only guy with the ability to beat Mayweather is Sergio Martinez. Floyd's punches wouldn't have the same effect they have on the WW's Floyd has fought. Martinez isn't a stupid fighter. He's smart enough to adapt and fast enough to jab at Floyd. IF we ever saw this match up, Floyd would be a straight up counterpuncher. We would not see him trying to walk Martinez fight. But this will never happen anyway.
Martinez hasnt fought at 147 in over ten years, and hasnt really beaten anyone of note other than Paul Williams(with a lucky shot i might add), Cintron(is he really of note anyway) and an overrated a$$ kelly pavilik.
And hes a f*cking middleweight.
That be like asking Martinez to go up two weight classes and fight Bernard Hopkins at light heavy.

i see it as the opposite.
floyd left himself open too much and got hit a few times by ortiz. he was also punching thin air which is something we dont see from floyd. pacman would totally capitalise on this and is quicker/stronger than any opponent floyds faced.
one things for certain. this fight NEEDS to happen.
floyd did leave himself open a lot, but when you say he got hit a "few" times, that's right.. in fact according to compubox, Ortiz landed ~6 punches per round over 4 rounds.
was floyd open because he didn't respect Ortiz, or are you saying Floyd's defense all of the sudden started to be less effective?
also, you mentioned Floyd missing, I noticed that as well but only in the first round, he cleaned it up in rounds 2-4, especially 4... he was dominant in 4.

Floyd's right hand would find Pacquiao every time he'd be in range. What we would see is the Pacquaio that was tentative against Marquez when Marquez was in rhythm.
