1. Pac was not cash cow status yet when he fought DLH, he was doing good numbers but not the kind of numbers he is doing now. Pac became a cash cow AFTER he destroyed DLH.
2. A lot of people boycotted this fight and viewed it as a publicity stunt. Pac moved up 3 weight classes to fight DLH. Everyone thought DLH was gonna dominate Pac. (Everyone was wrong)
3. The economy was way worse compared to the time DLH fought Floyd
all those 3 combined.
Floyd vs Oscar was billed as the fight to save boxing.
PAC vs Oscar was a circus act. I'm surprised it even sold over 500k. If PAC had the star power that he had right now during that fight it will sell over 2mills.
Huge promotion, remember 24/7 was created to hype this fight. Also it was seen as a giant match up between two fighters that were seen in their primes. Not to mention the fight was taking place on Cinco De mayo.
^^^this plus the loss cost Oscar some of his PPV appeal and the fact that so many people didn't think Oscar could lose to the smaller Manny.
Floyd and Oscar did twice the numbers Manny and Oscar did...hmm.
Also, Floyd did twice as many ppv's against Marquez than Pac did his first two fights.
Oh yeah, Mayweather did more ppvs against Hatton and Mosley also...
hmm....
Most people watching his fights want him to lose. Once he lose only the flomos and flies will watch his boring fight.

We get it, Floyd's a bigger draw. What's understood doesn't need to be said.

Was May vs Delahoya promoted better or was Mayweather a bigger draw than Pacquiao?
Or was Delahoya seen as more prime back then?

Same reason why May v Pacquiao will do better than May v DLH....the greater the public perception that Floyd COULD lose, the greater the PPV#s. In the end, the constant is Mayweather.
The Floyd/Oscar fight was the most highly promoted fight ever! It was also billed as "the fight to save boxing". Not saying that it wouldnt have done big numbers regardless, but i'm sure it gave the ppv buys a boost.
Mayweather vs DLH was a bigger fight and a fight people actually wanted to see.
DLH vs Pacquiao was seen as a mismatch and a lot people boycotted it. Nobody but Fillipinos wanted to see that fight. Every one wanted to see DLH vs Margarito or Paul Williams.
Including myself, a lot of people were angry at DLH not keeping his promise of fighting the winner of Cotto-Margarito, which was Margarito. He ducked Margarito and fought Pacquiao, that hurt the sales of the fight.
I know that was my reason. I also wanted him to lose against Pacquiao but saw it as a mismatch coming in.
