Yesterday i was training some of my fighters (i own a gym in Mexico City) and some of the kids were talking about their fav boxers. Then one of the kids said i dont like so and so because he has no "heart" (i am not going to say who he was talking about because i wont go into that whole debate with any fanatic on this board) And i told the kid to pack his bag leave my gym and dont come back, everybody was shocked and then i explained that is ok for someone to say if thay just watch boxing, but for someone who is training to be a fighter that is unexcusable, because a boxer should know what is envolved in this game and i dont have time to try to explain thing a real fighter should already know
I teach boxing at a PAL and you don't know when a fighter is going to show heart till it gets tough in there. Even if they quit in a bout sometimes is cause of inexperience. You have to encourage and motivate your fighter. In the end is a sport they learn and very, very few compete at the amatuer level and even less at pro level.
Some kids learn how to box but don't want to mix it up in the ring. I still don't turn them away
I can tell u thought u were gonna get accolades for ur decision, but truthfully, that was a ridiculous reaction. WAAAYYY overboard... U can yell at him (which, in itself is slightly overboard), but completely shutting off his boxing career (at least for the time being)? CRUELTY at its finest.
And even then, who has more right to say someone has no heart than A BOXER? A fan has no right, becuz all he does is sit on his azz while these guys risk their lives. But a boxer that also risks his life has the right to judge when he feels another boxer is a coward... U go that rule backwards
TS I teach kids aswell in School and Karate and there is a big difference between saying:
"Get out of my gym and never come back"
and
"Get out of my gym and don't come back till you learn some respect for others and this discipline."
what this man said^^^ this is the way you should've handled it he's still a kid
a better way of disciplining that kid would be to put him in the ring with someone that was a lot better than him until the kid quit... then you can give him a lecture about having "heart".
Exactly what I would've done. :fing02:

idk why but this made me LMAO!

To the thread starter......... what titles have you won in the ring. Not coaching titles but where you actually fought.................Rockin':boxing:
234 am fights, never made the National team, and the kid came back and said he was sorry. Im a dick? how many of you people buy kids gloves and boxing gear for hard work in the gym, and how many of you give about 4-5 hours of your day to teach kids you dont even know for free? to learn this game from someone who knows is a privilege. other trainers down here dont teach these kids nothing have them sign a contract and pimp them out by throwing them in the ring. so we you do that then you can judge me
LOL @ people saying some fighters have no heart. If you step into a ring, even if it's sparring, you know you're going to get hit, you have a ton of heart.
You guys probably have never laced them up.
Not being a coward =/= having alot of heart.
There was this Mexican kid I knew at the gym, he was a good kid about 13-14 and wanted to learn how to box. The kid laced them up and got into the ring to spar with the owner of the gym's kid. Then wanna know what he did? He didn't like getting hit, so he ran and while throwing like 20 jabs to avoid getting hit, then when he got hit once or twice he quit.
Is that a guy with alot of heart to you?

It's not like he banned the kid for life. Kicking him out of the gym that day was done to teach the kid a lesson. Hopefully the kid will come back with a lot more respect for what boxers do.
He said in his post that he told him not to come back.
*******? that is likely, but i teach these kids for free and if you know the dedication and time i spend on these kids and the very harsh way i learned how to box, in comparison i am a saint. and listen if this kid is not smart enough to know this game is about "hit and dont be hit do on to others then split" then trust me i did him a favor because this game is not for the macho it is for the smart. i am blind in one eye from this game so i respect it more than others
if you so respect it more than the others you should not have drive that kid away, you should have win him over, you should have shown him the right way instead of booting him out. you failed in that respect, you are not saving the world yet you let your emotion rule over. daymn youre a failure.

Some fighters don't have heart. It's about calling a spade a spade.
instead it sounds to me like you're one of these people who take no sh!t and think just cause they own a gym they deserve to treat people like crap and should bow down and agree to your views...you should have done the mature thing and acted in a responsible way
Reminds me of Michael Moorer charging people $5 for leaning on his counter.
as an owner of the gym i would expect better of you, you're supposed to be the one guiding these 'kids'

how else are the 'kids' from your gym gonna respect you if you throw em out over a disagreement of opinion???
did he make fun of Ortiz? :lol1:
Theres tons of guys with no heart, who crumble after first punch and would rather end the fight than getting knocked out.
