On November 5 Mikkel Kessler will challenge Robert Stieglitz for the latters WBO title. Kessler is the challenger because he vacated his WBC title due to a nagging eye-injury. By vacating volontarily and thereby ensuring that the WBC belt remained in the supersix tournament, he was awarded a champion emeritus tag by the WBC.
Kessler tells TV2.dk: "I still feel it is my belt. I didn't lose it to Froch. I lost my belt because I was unable to defend it due to injury."
The dane continues: "I look forward to be a challenger again. It's always more fun. My preparations are good. I'm in great shape already even though the fight is 2 months away. I have no problems with my eyes and my hands are fine so I cannot complain."
Here's a pic I took this weekend in Herning, Denmark BTW:

It's what was waiting for him in the semi finals that scared him.
Yeah I agree.
He knew a Semi Final fight would be landing in the US and against either Froch or Ward which would spell trouble.
Certainly he wasn't afraid of the Allan Green fight, but after traveling for the Calzaghe and Ward fights and losing almost every single round in the 2 fights I think he was genuinely afraid to get on a plane and risk another loss. He looked at his options and he knew he could do what he is doing now and have a shot to regain a belt with 0 risk and 0 travel.
We're talking about a guy who had all of 3 tough fights in his entire career of 40 plus fights. It's no surprise he didn't want to put himself through a 3rd consecutive war when he has become accustomed to soft touches 90% of the time.
"I've lost my prestigious and beautiful title":rofl::rofl: He's like a kid who has broken his best toy.

Kessler's looking good as usual. (no homo)
No Mikkel you lost your title because you had just went life and death with Froch and knew you would have got more of the same had you continued in the tournament so you b*tched out like a p*ssy!
Are you serious?
Kessler was to fight Allan Green in Denmark for a mega payday. A fight he would have been highly favoured to win by KO. You suggest that he'd rather just vacate his title (and not just keep the belt) and leave the tournament.
For somebody like Kessler it should be, as long as he hasn't lost much since the Super Six. The Bute fight would have immediately set him up for a rematch with Andre Ward if he gets by Froch. I feel like this is a waste of time and the best fight he'll get afterwards is the Super Six loser or an up and coming, younger fighter who could very well snatch that title away like the Dirrell brothers.
I agree that Kessler's likely next step is the loser of the Super 6.
It's pretty predictable what will happen especially if Ward wins over Froch.
Ward will not face Kessler as he has nothing to prove so he will target Bute as that is the fight most fans want to see and the fight the networks will want as well.
Most likely the stupid ass WBC will then strip Ward, who of course wont care cause he has proven his status in the ring, and then Kessler will fight either Froch or some Euro Bum like Stieglitz for the vacant belt.
I just can't imagine any scenario where Ward and Kessler fight again, almost nobody wants to see that rematch.
Stieglitz is a tough fighter, with good skills and power. There is nothing easy about this fight.

Bat, do you think, in 3-years time, when Mikkel has lost all his hair and his top 5 P4P Dish status, he'll be saying: "Nein! It's still my hair, even though it's no longer here."
By that time his skull will be covered with a state of the art tatoo making him look as dishy as ever.
