Lately Mayweather has been using a high guard defense more then his shoulder roll, and he used it very well against Judah, the last southpaw he fought.
I see the Ortiz fight playing out a lot like the Judah fight; He will lose a few of the early rounds, but he'll be countering clean and solid all night and working the body from early on.
If he really wants to make a statement, he could put more punches together and go in for the kill.
As for Pac; he's an in and out fighter, I think a solid jab could keep him in check. Mosley did a pretty good job with a soft jab and Mayweather's jab is 10x better.
Exactly, which means he wouldn't stay off on one side to fight in the pocket against Floyd, and therefore the shoulder roll would be non-useful. Unlike Clottey, Floyd would maintain his distance and use his high guard defense in the process. Some of Manny's straight punches would go in between, but eventually Manny's reach disadvantage would leave himself vulnerable for Floyd to catches him in the process with jabs, and straight right leads.

But the Mayweathers know all this already, they may not be rocket scientists but they know boxing in and out. Hence, the constant 'vacations'. But we already saw how this fight would play out:
Except Floyd isn't as durable as Clottey and his high guard isn't as good. With his shot legs, he'd be a f*cking sitting duck in there.
Dude, you're so ignorant. Clottey showed no head, lateral, nor upper body movements whatsoever, and somehow you're trying to implying that's the same way to outcome of the Floyd-Manny fight would be. Other than being an underrated accurate puncher when he decide to throw punches, Floyd and Clottey fights nothing alike.
Imagine if Floyd looked like Clottey, blocked up all night :) Two completely different fighters but I'd have to say Clottey's high guard > Floyds, however, Floyd's ability and willingness to actually turn those blocks to counters is completely different.
Not really. Clottey like to using his high guard defense to block side punches, but Manny still managed to landed straight left on him because he didn't moved his head at all and those straight left got in the middle through the high guard defense. Floyd like to uses the high guard to block side punches, but at the same time, he'll pull his head back and lean his upper body backward just to avoid straight left and right punches that can get through in the middle of the high guard.
He was spot on, he's very smart. One thing he forget is that, Floyd won't stay as flat-foot as he shows on the video and roll his shoulder in the process. If Floyd isn't gonna stay at close range, he isn't gonna have to use the shoulder roll defense because he'll have enough space to just pull back. The shoulder roll is mainly use when Floyd fights in the pocket without using much of his footwork, but when he's out of range he usually use his high guard and lean his head and upper body back to avoid his opponent's straight left and right punches in case they decide to throws them.
Yawnnn lets forget Pac has been outboxed before
Lets forget Pac coach has said numerous times he has to come up with a game plan
Yawnnn lets not forget he still ended up WINNING.. you dumbfuk.
lol, yeah the only reason fights don't happen is because the fighter YOU dislike is "scared"
you're a tool, watch pacquiao's interviews when asked about mayweather, THAT'S the definition of SCARED
mmmm ahhh, talk to me promoter
you clowns want to have everything. pac is amateurish, easy to hit, fought nothing but bums. in the next sentence same clowns turn around and say he's too good. he must be on something. he's roiding. no evidence is needed. no need to sue either.
lol. what are you 10 year old kids? go and talk to clowns your age.
excessive dickriding phucks up people's brains, indeed. :haha:
so why is floyd not fighting pac then? easy fight, easy money, right?

bull****, it doesn't take much to make Manny back up, Margarito did it, Cotto did it, Mosley did it, and Floyd will do it
Manny isn't some unbelievable force in the ring that you all make him out to be, he makes a ****load of mistakes and can be FORCED to do certain things in the fight, like BACK PEDAL

floyd is gonna have to throw combos against manny cause i think it will take more than potshots to hold him off
the winner is gonnna be the guy that has the best strategy and exicutes it
cause they both have tools to beat eachother

oh lord. these are the kind of threads that should be discouraged everywhere. floyd's fear of losing to pac multiplies with these kinds of topics. i'd prefer to see posters post things like floyd would murk pac, floyd would school pac, floyd would beat pac in less than nine rounds. anything else makes this fight impossible to make.
i expect to see floyd and his fanboys dump another ton of roadblocks after viewing this video.
Nice video, Donaire is one of my faves and a very intelligent fighter. But, he seems to think that Mayweather only uses a shoulder roll for defense, he is mistaken. Floyd mostly uses the high-guard against southpaws.
Is this why victor's and manny's defense sucks? Are there or have there been any successful slick southpaws? Seems like if you're a southpaw you have to be an offensive boxer because your defensive options are limited. Just wondering.
Pernell Whitaker, does he count?
of Pacman. Check it out.
Here.. as I've stated in another post, and MANY times over the last year.
Because he is a southpaw the jab doesn't matter much. The reason a 'jab' is successful against floyd is because as a conventional fighter, your left hand is the only hand that can hit him when he uses teh shoulder roll - or else your right hand will hit him in his shoulder/lowback and you risk penalty.
A good lead (left hand) for jabs and hooks is essential against the roll. This is why he doesn't use it against Southpaws.. because that same side he rolls on is now replaced with power straight instead of jabs and it then becomes too dangerous. Not having a jab wont effect Vic so much because he is a southpaw. The rest I agree with though
Also, he may not be a swarmer but he's damn good inside. He does that hook into uppcut, uppercut into hook combination while pivoting very well.
But it doesn't mean anything, since floyd doesn't shoulder roll against southpaws.
Did you create this alt to repeat yourself like the other may parrots on here?
what does that video prove, sign the damn contract then lol. Its obvious Bob "the Pimp" Arum doesnt want him to. thats all Money May asks for(he signed the contract), he agreed to the bull**** 10 mill each pound overweight. a simple blood and urine test is all he ask, looks like Manny needs the money cause hes going broke!
