Come on now....Andre Berto is a good fighter but he's MUCH less dangerous than Marcos Maidana. Berto doesn't come forward or have anywhere near the power Maidana has.
This doesn't mean he can't beat Mayweather, maybe he can, I think he has a very good chance... but if Ortiz wins or "loses by decision to the best fighter in the world", if he doesn't rematch Chino Madaina, his "resurrection tour" doesn't really mean anything to me.
Anybody agree?
I'm more of a prick than that I guess, lol. To me pretty much every fighter who didn't beat the recognized best fighter to earn their belt is a paper champion. Exceptions of course for when the best fighter won't fight a guy who goes on to win a belt from someone else.
That's what i'm telling you homey. You gotta understand that Berto was the highest ranked champion not named Pacman at 147. Pacman compltely ignored him while fighting the likes of Mosley & now Marquez. Then Berto went on to be beaten by Ortiz, who took his world title. Now Floyd is fighting him for his world title & will probably userp Pacman as #1 at the weight when he does. Because remember Floyd was indeed #1 after he beat Mosley. Pacman only got it after Floyd went inactive.
Also remember that Floyd & Pacman were ranked ahead of Mosley, even though it was Mosley who beat Margarito at 147. That's why Floyd beating Mosley was thoroughly legit. But when pacman beat Mosley it was utter garbage. he had already lost to Floyd & drew with Mora outside of 147. Meaning he was 0-1-1 going into that fight. While Berto was a champion racking up wins against average guys,(outside of Quintana & Collazo of course). Until Ortiz took his $hit.
I believe that Ortiz is a champion. There are 4 major titles in each division. Ortiz owns one of them. Now is he the highest ranked overall? Probably not. But he is a champion & ranked highly. I consider paper titlist to be when 2 fighters fight for a vacant world title, or when a fighter jumps up in weight to beat some cherrypicked guy then imidiately vacates the title instead of fighting a legitamte contender. But Ortiz did earn his title to champion, imo.

It's an argument between Pacquiao and Mayweather. If you still recognize Mayweather beating Mosley as making him the man at welterweight, since Mosley was the man at welterweight, then it's Mayweather. All I know is that Berto never had any claim as the real welterweight champion, so Ortiz sure as hell doesn't.
If you recognize Pacquiao's recent body of work and the fact he fights more often, then it's Pacquiao.
Personally I think Mayweather is THE welterweight champion, because of the Mosley win. It hasn't been that long since that fight.

BTW Jangles, if Ortiz is a paper titlist, are there any champions at welterweight then? If so how & who & why?

It shouldn't be a setback, especially if Ortiz is game, but I'm not sure Ortiz can handle being humiliated the way I expect him to be humiliated. He's already proven he doesn't have the strongest mentality.
We'll see, there is nothing wrong with losing to Floyd but hopefully it doesn't mess Ortiz up again. We don't need Ortiz to end up being the new Judah.

I don't think losing to Floyd is a setback in the slightest. It's actually normal. Ortiz is in a win win situation to me. Besides I'm almost certain he'll be competitive, which is the most any fighter can hope for.

He's not welterweight champion. He has a paper belt. Ortiz is on his way, but I'm not going to forget 2 years of struggling because of one fight.
Khan has done quite a bit to redeem himself, Ortiz just has to do more. This fight with Floyd is probably happening too soon. If he gets embarrassed, it could set him right back where he was after the Maidana fight.

How is becoming welterweight champion not redeeming himself? If he were fighting another superstar fighter no one would even remember Maidana. Young fighters lose, learn & improve. Has Khan not redeemed himself either? Or does that simply not fit the agenda?

old news....you got an agenda....dont think i dont see through your facade....deep inside you do know ORTIZ has proven sh1t............yes you do.....:luvbed:
So, why'd you change your name & are now an amateur? Did you get banned for trolling strugg, should have been permanent.
rumors.......remember that only floyd had cheated in recent CW fights.....you do know martinez vs PWILL was a CW right?....i dont see you blasting either.....................hypocrite?........:headbang:
Old, old news, but yes I did blast the Punisher for that, thank you. Proving yet again you know squat. Can't blast Martinez for that, it was the Punisher that asked for the catchweight, troll on brother!!:fing26:
whatever bush...lol.........keep in mind floyd wont get credit from true boxing fans from this blatant cherrypick.....ORIZ is a cherrypick....deal with it...ill always be here to remind NSB of that....:luvbed:
LOL, so why did Cotto want 150 against Margarito again?
truth......berto was called an HBO protected fighter even before ortiz............so how can one redeemed himself.......from quitting against an HBO protected fighter..........sorry just bringing in the facts........:headbang:
I'm not the one posting the above $hit idiot how did I get owned, troll?
my bad.....i meant how can someone from previously quitting against maidana.....redeemed himself against an HBO protected fighter in a competitive fight?.................the answer is simply NO WAY.........sorry:pat:
:gives::lame::stupid:
On 24/7 Ortiz said the Maidana fight didn't even happen, that's how much in denial he is about that beating and loss. he always says that Maidana isn't in his league and shouldn't be said in the same sentence as Ortiz.
Its clear he still thinks about the Maidana fight and that it has affected him.

I think they both have redeemed themselves "somewhat". I honestly think to fully redeem themselves they need to face the one's who handed them defeat. If they plan on being "Great" then they must do so. And one of the markers of Greatness for me is to fully redeem any and all losses or to atleast attempt to even the score.
Ohh, I agree big dog. But all anyone has got to do is look ar round 6 of that fight. Who the hell doesn't call that a tremendous show of heart needs to resort to watching gulf. I do however believe that both along with others should do like lewis & beat everyone that beat them.
because berto wasnt good to start with........and lets not forget he didnt dominate by far..........................
Maidana will always be in ortiz legacy............sad to say..........
khan didnt redeemed himself in just one ok performance..............
what agenda ?..........its the truth simple as that....you're welcome......
Fvck, this dude is back? Here we go..............................
