Video: Victor Ortiz Media Day Workout 8-30-11

"ZOMG! Watch him shadow box! What a BEAST! Ortiz KO2!!!!!111!!1" LOL at the overreacting going on here. It looks a lot different when Mayweather isn't there hitting him back. There is one HUGE similarity between watching Ortiz shadow box, and when we watch him fight Mayweather...... .........in both, he'll be hitting air.

That it one thing, he has activated beast mode for this fight, he is looking more like a bruiser than a prize fighter. Hope he can put it all together for a great fight.

I like Ortiz a lot, but i'm not seeing anything apart from a great back story. Footwork isn't great, and he doesn't look too sharp. Look at Pacquiao shadowboxing and you'll see why he's considered the biggest threat to Floyd. He's still got some time, but i'd hoped for better at this stage Mayweathers got this

Not trying to disrespect Ortiz because he seems like a good dude, but I didn't see anything special during that shadow boxing session. Then again we all know that the fighters don't show everything they have during the media workouts, maybe its a ruse for the Mayweather camp.

Ortiz is looking big and strong. I expect him to KO Floyd within 5-6 rounds.

The outcome of this fight has way more to do with Floyd that it does Ortiz. If Floyd is still Floyd and the layoff hasn't effected him then he will beat Ortiz convincingly no matter what Ortiz brings to the table. If the layoff has effected Mayweather and he ages over night then Ortiz has a good shot to win. Let's not get too carried away with Ortiz here people. We are still talking about a guy that got his ears boxed off by Lamont Peterson for the second half of their fight and got knocked down by Berto twice. This can be a very tough fight for Floyd but let's not act like Ortiz became some monster over night.

The only people intimidated by this training video and Ortiz's size are fans who never boxed in their life. Fighters don't care how big other fighters look. He is big............so what? you have all the reasons to feel that way. but man you like many. i feel don't have your eyes wide open. the old boyfloyd could most definatly spank ortiz. but this oldboy floyd. red flags have been raised by this lay-off. plus he's shown signs of slowing down. altho he's so skillfull you wouldn't notice it. victor might be the lucky one to get mayweather at the right time. The dude is no where near the skill level of floyd, by the 5th round hes in over his head and its a cake walk for floyd after he gets alittle discouraged from all the flush shots hes going to take. He certainly can be a threat. I think him beating Pacquiao might be a stretch until we see his performance against Floyd. If he struggles against Floyd, people will have second thoughts about him. He should do well considering Floyd's inactivity. Well floyd's style makes everybody look bad so im not sayin he will blast through may but if he can force floyd into a fight and catch him with a few hard puches like shane did maybe he can pull it off. I give ortiz a better chance with pacquiao becuz pac will be right in front him and pacs defense isn't the best Ive seen so pac would be catching hard punches all night. It'd be a close fight(he and pac) and I lean towards ortiz if he can stay focus. Also freddie says ortiz and pac had the best fight he'd ever seen so that tells me the fight would be close. What I hate about Vic is that he sticks his front foot up. Like he is standing on the toe. I don't know why he does that and for whatever reason it urks me. You know Flicker, sometimes the awkwardness might be to his advantage. Up to this point he's been successful. Except for the knockdowns he's suffered. He needs to keep the mistakes at a minimum against Floyd, though.

He's out to prove he's no quitter. We're only watching one aspect of his training regimen. The fight's a couple of weeks away. He's going to have to put it all together soon.
