@ a catchweight of 151 lbs. One extra pound alotted for the time that's passed since Marg's fought Pacquiao. So, who wins this Mexican mashup? Two heavy hitters with a lot of heart. Poll to follow, please discuss! :boxing::boxing::boxing:
When judging this fight, people need to just look at the styles. This isn't about Ortiz sucking or Margarito being great. They just matchup in a way where it's a very competitive matchup.
Anyone going to respond to the points i made in my earlier post (above)?
I think people are mislead by Margarito b/c of his style of fighting. When a fighter who relies on chin and pressure can't impose his will, they look very bad/helpless. Individually, Margarito's punches don't do very much. The last 2 fights of Margs' which everyone immediately thinks of is Pacquiao and Mosley.(for obvious reasons) However, this is not an accurate way to asses Margarito's current state.
Pacquiao and Mosley were 2 fighters who were able to take advantage of Margarito stylistically and make him look very ineffective. However, when you don't have the movement or necessary skills to neutralize Margarito's pressure? It does not stop until it consumes you.
The difference in results between Margarito's fights with Pac/Mosley and many of his previous fights is stems exclusively from those opponents skill sets. Nothing Margarito is doing has changed. If you are a fighter who cannot handle 12 rounds of strong chinned, relentless pressure.. You will lose to Margarito. What Margarito brings to the table is unchanged. It's as 1 dimensional but effective as it ever was.
Margs' also gets a lot of criticism for his comeback fight prior to the Pacquiao fight. This was a comeback tune up after a year layoff. Of course he looked flat, he was shaking the cobwebs off. At no point has Margarito's chin, endurance or agression faltered in a fight. I want Cotto to win, but the longer this thread continues. The more I want to bet a longshot in Margarito by KO.
so lemme put some hard facts: margarito cannot be dropped easily. he is mentally conditioned not to. ortiz doesn't have the chin, skill and stamina of a pacquiao. marg could catch him as early as the first round. the only thing that could possibly differ is power. would he be able to drop margarito with a ko power? i don't think so. if that is the case, there's no way he could outpoint marg on a 12 round decision. all he would focus on is survive the rounds.
Margarito by stoppage :boxing:
How is margarito shot? What is he all about? Chin, pressure, stamina, size right?
Did he show a chin against Pacquiao? Yep. Took lots of power shots FLUSH. Didn't get dropped once
Pressure? Absolutely. It was a tough fight for Pacquiao, and margarito hurt Pacquiao to the body. Not seen that in a while...
Stamina? Yup. He was firing all 12 rounds. Threw ****loads against pac.
Yeah, Floyd is fighting a good opponent and deserves credit, but this BS about Ortiz being some incredible force has gone too far.
Ortiz quits against Margarito. It would look like the Maidana fight, except Margarito won't get knocked down.
Anyone going to respond to the points i made in my earlier post (above)?
Agree'd. I don't know why these guys really think that an old Margarito that took flush shots from Cotto, Mosley & Pacman would beat a young fighter nearly as fast as Pacman with just as much power as them, bigger, with his momentum be beaten by an old faded fighter. 2008, that was the last time the Margarito that these guys are talking about was considered bossin. It's 2011, 3 fights, a suspentin & a broken face later.
antonio "hands of drywall" margarito is the greatest of all time.
maybe the pacman is either feather-fisted or didn't have enough power at that weight to drop margarito considering the huge weight discrepancy on fight night. pac did break marg's right eye, though, but not enough to make him quit.
when people say shot to pieces i'd expect ko's, tko's or numerous kd's. like baldomir against alvarez. the margarito pac fought is clearly far from such stupid term.
A few posters have said Margarito's chin is cracked.. Exactly which fight did Margarito show decreased punch resistance? Because in the Pacquiao fight it looked like he had steroids injected directly into his chin. He was taking flush shots, and never stopped stalking. You want to criticize Margs' power, that's debatable fine. His chin and endurance, aka what have always been his two main assets the majority of his career.. Per what we've seen in the ring, they are unaffected.
There are idiots in any sport who don't know how to watch their sport. In boxing you disregard past histories of fighters in the ring even if only for the first few rounds and assess the physical conditions of both. At the end of the day no two humans are completely alike. Both had ample time to train for the fight. This is not rocket science. This is common sense.
Margarito may not have the skill of a slick fighter, but the Margarito Pacquiao fought could walk right through anyone's punches. He was eating them and the pressure he put was effing non-stop. One false move would have sent Pac lying flat on his back. From round one to nine Margarito was dangerous as ever. Pacquiao was like fighting bees. Luckily for Pac, he's in perfect physical condition.
Marg didn't go down despite the powerful shots he received which would have incapacitated any boxer you can name today. Question stupid idiots should be asking is why did Margarito not hit the canvas? A boxer who is shot to pieces, like some idiots refer to him, will not even last three rounds with all those huge bombs that were launched by Pacquiao.
Marg aint walking through heavy fire no more...so get THAT version of Tony outta yall mind.....Vic's speed compared to Tony's is night and day....if Vic doesn't get careless he beats Marg today and the next day and the next day...and so on...yesterday, Vic gets ate the hell up without a question....but TODAY I'd put my money on the young lion....I would even favor Berto to beat Marg today...yup, clown ass Berto...Marg was once a beast....the time away an the punishment he's taken in his last few has made him more human :lol1:
I'm not counting Marg out against Cotto though....thats a fight he can win all day....styles make the dances...yall know the saying!!

Also, can Ortiz stand up to Margarito's body punching?
He killed Cintron with that, and he still is great at going to the body as seen by him hurting and almost dropping Pacquiao with his body punching.

Chin and endurance were just a part of his assets. He had more than that including his debilitating body punching. The purpose is to win. Not to " stalk" and take a beating. But your agenda is crystal clear so I understand.

I really hope either bouts (Berto vs Margarito or Ortiz vs Margarito) are a possibility/happen, because I would love to place a bet on those fights with you.

and even in the Mosley fight, It took several flush overhand power shots from mosley to take him out.
In the Floyd fight it appeared that a third big shot from Shane would have put Floyd away....yet Margarito took those round after round until the 8th when he was done in by them.
Even in the Shane fight I didn't see a figther whose chin was cracked.

Anybody who knows what they are talking about can see this. And sorry threadstarter but NSB polls don't "unanimously" represent what all people think.

Even now I think Margarito would break down Ortiz later in the fight. Ortiz might hurt Margarito early but Antonio would keep coming forward and as the fight progressed, stop him.

I see you're in that category as well. Trying to pretend that Margarito is still at the top of his game after the Mosley fight and year lay off.
exactly. its like greater fighters than margarito haven't been beaten by worse fighters than ortiz. then they talk about other fanbases. hilarious ain't it. there's always someone talking out their ass about fan bases like these torn a$$holes are any different. its like they've got a dick in their mouth and they're complaining about why other *****es have other dicks in there mouths.
Or vise versa.
Yeah but Tony doesn't hit all that hard these days. Assuming Victor figured out how to defend against a looping right he should be fine.
Vic hits like a brick****house and Tony has had his chin cracked. Couple that with the aggression of Ortiz and Tony's lack of defense and I think this one turns into a beating.
